Just had my 50th birthday and my twin brother got me one of these

funblueplaques.co.uk/shop/blue-plaque/

I spent ages to find someone that could recreate a picture taken of us as children and then had it mounted and framed. It was his wife’s 50th a couple of months ago and I went halves with our other brother to get her a nice bracelet. I feel for a milestone birthday he’s got it so wrong, it’s like he doesn’t know me at all.

AIBU?

Should I say something or will the fact that it won’t be mounted anywhere say it all?

Put it in the loo

MrsLegend · 12/03/2022 16:23

Oops. Not IN the loo itself. I mean on the wall in the loo!!! Smile

1forAll74 · 12/03/2022 16:28

I would obviously accept it, but never like it at all, but would keep quiet about the gift, and probably put it out of the way in my shed, under some plant pots or boxes of my tools etc.

Seeing it I would be far more annoyed that I was only seen in my relationship to others and not as an individual. Being referred to as daughter, sister, wife, mother. Where is your identity?
15MinutesOlder · 12/03/2022 17:01

@PriamFarrl well I did say it was shit Hmm

Gowithme · 12/03/2022 17:03

Oh the 'daughter, sister, wife, mother' does sound a bit like something you'd have on a gravestone! He could have put 'world's best twin sister' or something a bit more fun and less generic! Typical man gift though.
@PriamFarrl well I did say it was shit Hmm
Well yes, but I thought that was because it wasn’t to your taste, not due the actual inscription.

Now I have seen the chosen inscription, I feel it is a bit rubbish! I have done a complete 180.

Oh. Yeah. That really is a bit shit from someone who is supposed to be close to you. Sad
BridgesofMadisonfan · 12/03/2022 20:36

@15MinutesOlder

What does it say around the edge?

I don't like it either!

I still think it’s crap but I’m accepting it in the manner in which it was given. The downstairs loo seems appropriate Wink

MrsLegend · 12/03/2022 21:20

It's not my type of thing and I wouldn't want one (sorry) but it doesn't mean he hasn't put any thought into it.

(I'm trying to be generous towards him)!

PorpoiseWithPurpose · 12/03/2022 21:27

Definitely shit.

PorpoiseWithPurpose · 12/03/2022 21:30

Especially the daughter, sister, wife and mother inscription.

Xpologog · 12/03/2022 21:47

I’m with you, OP, it’s horrible. Only place I would put it is the loft.

ButtockUp · 12/03/2022 21:51

I'd put it up in my back garden so that I could see it.

I think you need to give over on this.

15MinutesOlder · 12/03/2022 22:37

@ButtockUp scroll back, I’ve put it up. Opinions welcome Grin

Great to see it proudly displayed in such a place of honour!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 12/03/2022 23:19

I love it!

Even better, you could add a framed photo of yourself and turn that throne room into a shrine Grin

crackersforcrackers · 12/03/2022 23:25

Aw it looks smashing up! And he'll be so pleased to see it when he comes over.

Thatswhyimacat · 12/03/2022 23:30

I've accumulated quite a lot of personalised gifts over the years from a friend who loves them - things like map of the stars when you were born, sound map of your favourite song etc. They've never been to my taste as I tend to find that sort of thing a bit naff but I've put them up and over the years grown to like them, in their sort of sweet naffness. This gift would fit pretty much in that category, sweet if a bit naff.
