Found a black hair grip …

Wingingthis · 11/03/2022 10:20

DH is at work, I’m in the middle of a deep clean. Whilst I was hoovering I found in the corner of the bedroom, kind of camouflaged into the carpet a black hair grip/Bobby pin whatever they’re called.
I’m blonde and have always been blonde, my kids are toddlers so do not use hair grips. No one else has been in our bedroom that would explain it.
I’ve also been away all week with the kids.

Aibu to be suspicious??? I’m also pregnant so know I don’t think rationally sometimes atm

I dropped one the other day in the bathroom. It just vanished completely.
Maybe it’s mine Wink

Don't suppose you've preciously had your hair done at an hairdresser and they put a random black one in the up do?

mam0918 · 11/03/2022 12:42

I saw a meme yesterday that said:

My wife and daughter can never find their hairpins but I can't stop finding them.

Aquamarine1029 · 11/03/2022 12:43

@Blackbirdflyintothelight

Those bloody things get everywhere. I wouldnt give it a second thought.
Even when you don't, and never have, owned any? And it randomly shows up in your bedroom? Confused

I'm not saying anything untoward is going on, but I would be suspicious as well.

Whatwouldyoudo41 · 11/03/2022 12:45

I wouldn't panic, there could be a simple explanation for this. As others have said, those things get everywhere, i can never find one when I need one but if i'm not looking I find hundreds.
I once nearly left my husband after finding loads of blonde hairs in his underwear, a few weeks later I discovered my son had given Barbie a haircut! Its a horrible feeling though, sending hugs.

Kadge3042 · 11/03/2022 12:46

How long have you lived in the house? Could have been there for years and you've only just seen it. Bobby pins hide in the corner of carpets quite well 😅 I've lost hundreds over the years!

Do you ever have any visitors with dark here?

watcherintherye · 11/03/2022 12:46

What are those hair grips called that are wider and work with a sort of ‘spring’ effect? Quite often silver and flat when closed.

CowsAreNotGreen · 11/03/2022 12:47

If you've lived in the house a long time and you have cleaned that bit before then I would be suspicious too.

the80sweregreat · 11/03/2022 12:48

I would be suspicious personally speaking because I don't own any at all , never use them and don't have any other person here who would have to use any : Dh is bald for starters!
I hope the op can clear up their mystery

Snap clip or contour clip I think?
TheSunWillComeOut2moro · 11/03/2022 12:49

I buy packets of the things and they just disappear. I needed some to fix our daughter's hair for world book day last week and was looking in random places, managed to find 6 just looking in weird places. It could quite easily be from the previous house owner, if I found a black one (I buy blonde or brown) I'd shrug, I honestly wouldn't think anything of it.

Just reminded me, when we bought our house (hadnt moved in) my fil was doing some work on the bathroom for us and found a pair of knickers that had slipped down the back inside the bathroom sink cupboard, such a random place to put a pair of knickers. Even if we were living there and I'd found them, my first thought would have been previous owner, not omg I bet my husband chucked them in there in a hurry because he's having a wild affair!

ivfbabymomma1 · 11/03/2022 12:49

They literally get everywhere! Could it have been one your friends staying over once? My friends & myself tend to get ready in mine & DHs room for a night out or whatever.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 11/03/2022 12:50

No one has been in my house other than me. I used bobby pins, usually blonde ones sometimes brown if I'm desperate. I found a silver one in my bathroom last week.

Smidgy · 11/03/2022 12:50

If you've recarpeted since living in the house, or you're a clean freak who spends time making sure every inch of your house of spotless then yes, it would be suspicious. Or it could have been there for donkey's years and you've never noticed it. It's hard to say without further info.

I did catch my ex out in a similar way however. I went away by myself for a week, came back and there was a pink hairband wrapped in manky, old dark hair laying on the carpet next to the bed by the radiator. I didn't own any pink hair bands (my were all black or dark brown) and I wouldn't wear a hairband wrapped in old hair so knew it wasn't mine. As soon as ex got home I showed him what I'd found and asked if he could explain why it was in our bedroom. He literally went white as a sheet. Then started saying it was obvious it was mine because it was covered in dark hair which I dismissed immediately. Then he said that it must have belonged to the previous tenant (who was dark haired), and had only just fallen out from behind the radiator now. For a second I believed that was a plausible explanation until I remembered that I'd actually removed the radiator a year earlier when I'd redecorated the bedroom. Anyway, that incident got me sniffing around and once I started looking for evidence it was very easy to find out what he was up to.

Westfacing · 11/03/2022 12:52

I sometimes send out my bed linen to an ironing service. Once as I was putting it away I noticed a long blonde hair on the neatly ironed dark duvet cover.

I'm not blonde and have shortish hair, and live alone.

A hair grip could have entered the bedroom via new clothes, dry-cleaning, any number of ways.

Limegreentangerine · 11/03/2022 12:56

Shamelessly place marking as I'm invested

Thereisnolight · 11/03/2022 12:57

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal

I'm not sure I'd jump to conclusions over a Bobby pin, those things get everywhere. Come the apocalypse there'll just be them and the cockroaches left.

Maybe he used it to secure his wig while he tried on your underwear?

CowsAreNotGreen · 11/03/2022 13:00

Has DP got long hair?

Idontreplytotrolls · 11/03/2022 13:00

I found my DH with one of those a few years ago, he was sat watching tv cleaning under his nails with it (scruffy git). I asked him where he found it he said some one left it at work on the desk.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 11/03/2022 13:01

WTF is a 'Kirby' grip?

Hair grips, is what they are.

This entire thread is a study in how to turn a simple object into something a lot more complicated than it needs to be Hmm

TonkaTruckduck · 11/03/2022 13:02

Absolutely pointless thread if the op doesn't come back. Why do people do this?

UnconditionalSurrender · 11/03/2022 13:04

I once got one lodged in the tread of my shoe from somewhere and it was a right bastard to get out. They get everywhere.

Inastatus · 11/03/2022 13:05

LTB!

Frauhubert · 11/03/2022 13:05

I once found a purple pair of tights in my drawer. I never wore any other colour but black. Accused at the time boyfriend of cheating. Only, it was back in the uni days and i might have been under the influence of a hallucinogenic substance. They ‘changed’ colour back to black in the morning.
