Reading this was a shock, given recent events... www.rte.ie/news/primetime/2022/0310/1285699-russian-embassy-orwell-road-irish-government/

Being included under the umbrella of 'Team GB' is all those weirdo DUP flat earthers dream of.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 11/03/2022 11:04

@JaneJeffer

I also call Northern Ireland the "northern state" which is what it is just like the ROI is the "southern state". You're talking out of your arse *@DownNative* Why would Russia need bots when some posters have been derailing every thread about Ireland with this type of nonsense for years?

And Dermot wouldn't go near that place. No windows in a bunker.

Asking for a bit of respect is not nonsense. The refusal to stop using a term that is considered offensive is indicitive of the xenophobic attitudes of many posters of here towards Ireland and the Irish people. Xenophobia and racism should always be called out.
eggandonion · 11/03/2022 11:05

I thought athletes represent uk or Ireland according to their sporting body. So boxing is all Ireland, so NI boxers are in the Irish team?
TeamGB has been a brilliant marketing strategy.

JaneJeffer · 11/03/2022 11:08

@OchonAgusOchonOh I'm talking about people pretending they don't know the name of the country in order to derail the thread. They know fucking well what it's called. That's the nonsense part.

Heyahun · 11/03/2022 11:10

@Frazzled50yrold Southern Ireland is definitley not a thing

I'm Irish and nobody uses that phrase

It's Ireland or the Republic of Ireland

Moyny · 11/03/2022 11:11

Indeed.

But at least we can all agree on the Eoghan Murphy astonishingness?

eggandonion · 11/03/2022 11:14

Ireland, Republic of Ireland....Cork and Not Cork are acceptable terms.
What is Eoghan doing now? I wonder if you can suggest guests to Tommy Tiernan?

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 11/03/2022 11:15

Yes, I can. I'm astonished, shook, amazed and thankful that he blocked it.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 11/03/2022 11:20

Apparently Eoghan was last spotted in Armenia monitoring their parliamentary election.

Moyny · 11/03/2022 11:22

@MurderAtTheBeautyPageant

Sure, he’d come back to sit opposite Tommy, while Tommy does the ‘Spiritual, Non-Judgemental in My Hat’ listening face.
Arabellla · 11/03/2022 11:23

That's clearly where the Russians are opening the date to the Upside Down. Duh.

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 11/03/2022 11:25

@moyny, my parents are obsessed with the Tommy Tiernan Show. Grin

'Now he's very different to Tubridy. Tubridy would be mortified asking a sex worker about her job, he'd make an absolute eejit of himself, but not Tommy.'

JaneJeffer · 11/03/2022 11:30

Grin

JaneJeffer · 11/03/2022 11:31

And another Grin because I'm still laughing @Moyny

yodaforpresident · 11/03/2022 11:33

@Arabellla has it!

SolasAnla · 11/03/2022 11:35

@Realitydawning98

How the heck that ever got through first time around!! I’d be concerned that the Russians have planted facilitators on other government departments!
You are giving the Russians too much credit. I dont think the legislation prevents secret underground nuclear fall out shelters. The secret spy school and economic espionage may prompt an additional filing requirement. Why there was no NIMBY from the posh neighbours...

It'll be fine.

Moyny · 11/03/2022 11:38

It’s the way I tell them. Grin

(I’m relatively newly back home after a looong time abroad, so I’m still feeling my way back into Irish tv/radio. Like Gay Byrne was still hosting the Late Late when I left, which will tell you.)

Moyny · 11/03/2022 11:40

Sorry, that was to @JaneJeffer, who has the best ever Mn username. Nought @eggandonion always reminds me of Sr Michael complaining about the whiffy sandwich passenger on the bus in the episode of Derry Girls where they run away to the gig.

JaneJeffer · 11/03/2022 11:57

Aww thanks @Moyny. DS said to me one night "why does he stare at people like that, it's weird" Grin It takes a while to get back into the swing of Irish TV. When I returned in the 90's people like Katy French RIP were big celebrities which was baffling as pre-internet you wouldn't have heard of them in the UK.

Sorry, I misunderstood. And yes, I agree, it's nonsense. It's either done to be deliberately insulting/offensive or they are exceptionally dense.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 11/03/2022 12:06

@Sweetmayday

RTE have a show called Prime Time, I was watching it last night and they were on about it. What they had planned to build was huge, 3 3 storey buildings with underground rooms and 2 other seperate buildings as apartments for staff.They would have had their own independent water supply and petrol supply, so if the Irish water system was contaminated they would not be impacted. Also they show raised concerns about the amount of people employed by the Russian embassy, 30 Russian nationals compared to the 4 Irish nationals in the Irish embassy in Moscow. It's the second largest embassy after America.
They also don't empty locals to do most of the non-diplomatic tasks the way most embassies do. There are issues with visas for non-diplomatic staff at the moment due to covid restrictions over the past 2 years. They're working on working on sorting that out at the moment.

100% agree on JaneJeffer Grin
LadyEloise1 · 11/03/2022 12:15

@Sweetmayday re your comment about Prime Time and its revelation that Ireland has the second biggest Russian embassy in the world.
Second to the US.

ShockShockShock
If this is true one has to ask why !!!

LizzieAnt · 11/03/2022 12:20

@eggandonion
I always thought Cork was in the south too, but Fáillte Ireland have decided in their wisdom that Cork city is part of 'Ireland's Ancient East'Grin The Wild Atlantic Way begins around Kinsale, ie just over the road. (In fact most of the country is either in the 'Ancient East' or 'Wild Atlantic Way', though there's a small 'Hidden Heartlands' in the middle.)

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 11/03/2022 12:33

omg Ireland's Ancient East is a new one on me. I'm still reeling from 'The Grafton Quarter'.
