YANBU- yes, keep them on, you’re not there for a shag.

YABU- take them off, you look ridiculous.

@mizzo

I usually keep socks on but last time I went for a smear I foolishly wore a jumpsuit and somehow just the bra felt slightly less ridiculous than bra and socks.
Grin Soulds like one of my nightmares when I'm naked in the crowd.

@GeneLovesJezebel

Please do, there’s nothing worse than smelly feet when you’re doing them !
Surely socks alone will not prevent smelling.

I'd go with please make sure your feet and the rest of you has been freshly washed before undergoing scheduled medical activities.

JPduck · 11/03/2022 17:34

I have kept them in on the past 😀

maddiemookins16mum · 11/03/2022 17:59

I wear odd ones - on purpose.

pollymere · 11/03/2022 18:12

I wear a skirt so all I take off are my knicks.

NecklessMumster · 11/03/2022 18:14

Years ago I read on here about a woman scared of not being clean and fresh enough for her smear, a nurse replied that smelly feet were more of the problem in her experience so now I always take a clean pair of socks with me

Mirw · 11/03/2022 18:30

Do you take your skirt off? Do you fancy the nurse? Unless you have tights on, you keep your sox on. Think of the nurse not you!

Chepei · 11/03/2022 18:38

I have a doctor friend who recounts a tale when she was a trainee of a woman wearing crotchless knickers for easy access 😂. I get the logic but no!

MayMorris · 11/03/2022 18:52

@MangyInseam

It's an ideal time for novelty socks IMO.
Yes, sock makers are missing a great opportunity 👏 We could even combine for a shout out for women vs cervix haters and have a political range too
Booboobibles · 11/03/2022 18:54

@Pixiedust1234

Keep them on. Why would the nurse want to look at or be near manky feet with fungal knarled toenails, athletes foot or sock fluff (even one would be awful). Plus most ppl put their feet on the floor before putting on shoes after getting of the couch. Just think how many sweaty, verruca encrusted feet would have been there before yours.

Can you tell that feet gross me out Blush

Not many people’s feet are like this🙂. I’m a massage therapist and most people have perfectly nice feet! Better than mine😳
Muminthewoods19 · 11/03/2022 19:04

I've always left my socks on 🤣

BooneyBeautiful · 11/03/2022 19:10

@Aria2015

I always keep mine on! It wouldn't even occur to me to take them off!
This.
amritsky · 11/03/2022 19:15

I usually keep them on for a shag too tbh, I always have cold feet in winter. I probably do look ridiculous, but no-ones complained so far

MostlyEatingBiscuits · 11/03/2022 19:15

A smear would almost be fun if I could wear these.

Almost.

Liesovertheocean · 11/03/2022 19:49

Socks and converse on for smear today…nurse just said remove your underwear - I’m very literal.

On a side note I was so grateful to my nurse today, she chatted away like an old friend, was so understanding when I over shared due to nerves and was gentle and respectful when it was uncomfortable and offered to stop a number of times when she heard a sharp intake of breath. It was such a relief to be treated kindly.

LoisLane66 · 11/03/2022 20:19

No idea. I've never had one nor a mammogram or bowel cancer poo test...or even a flu jab or Covid vaccine. The least intervention the better.
Only saw GP once to confirm pregnancies then nothing until I was in late labour.
I would have taken my socks off though if I was having what the OP had.

LoisLane66 · 11/03/2022 20:36

Another sock fanatic here. Boot socks, thick hiking socks, running socks, bed socks and socks with non-slip soles for lounging at home.

Why did you need your GP to confirm your pregnancies? Mine didn’t and wouldn’t have done.

I say that as someone who has had a smear, any and all vaccinations they’ll give me and regular midwife appointments. I surprised the receptionist and my nurse by booking my smear as soon as I had the letter come through. They said that never happens.

Darbs76 · 11/03/2022 21:00

Must admit I’ve thought about it as feel ridiculous with socks on! But no I don’t take them off

Ireallymustgetup · 11/03/2022 21:03

I always wear a skirt/dress and tights so end up with bare feet. Started wearing a skirt after a nurse left me lying half naked (no blue paper) and the curtain round the bed open while she messed about fetching things she’d forgotten. A double decker bus, several cars and a couple of pedestrians went past the large window with its open blinds while she was faffing. I was quite young at the time, these days I’d say something and move myself.

Hellolittlestar · 11/03/2022 21:06

I’ve just had my smear done, but honestly I cannot remember whether I took the socks off or not. I don’t think it matters.

Serialchiller · 11/03/2022 21:06

The chair thing sound much better. Can’t see them coming to the nhs right enough.
The way things are going we’ll be doing them ourselves soon
