YANBU- yes, keep them on, you’re not there for a shag.

YABU- take them off, you look ridiculous.

Flip flops. Problem solved

20viona · 10/03/2022 16:47

I'd rather wear 10 pairs of socks with boots than zero 🤮

Tdcp · 10/03/2022 16:48

@TheOGWanKenobi

Omg 😂😂😂 how the hell did you carry on with the appointment after that?!

TheOrigRights · 10/03/2022 16:51

Canvas shoes (Converse and the like) become rank very, very quickly if you don't wear socks/trainer socks with them.
And it's the same with cheap plastic pumps.

ISpyCobraKai · 10/03/2022 16:55

People in Australia most definitely think sock wearing is a totally normal thing.

Anyway, last time I had a smear the nurse admired my Animal from the muppets socks, I felt the need to apologise that they weren't mine and her ex bf had left them at our house and I stole them.
Not sure she really needed to know thatConfused

I don't get your post. Why would you even be wearing socks? Don't you wear flats, heels, sandals or slip ons? The only people I know who wear socks in public are men, or school girls and boys. And runners that wear socks with their sneakers. Women otherwise don't wear socks.
Whaaaaat? Almost every shoe I wear i wear socks with, I'm currently wearing a pair of timberland boots with fluffy socks, other days I wear runners (trainers in British English) with ankle socks, if I'm going a bit more dressed up I'll wear ankle boots with a heel and ankle socks that you can't see but are much more comfortable than no socks. I rarely wear shoes that you can't wear socks with, maybe sandals or flip flops if it's warm out (which is rare in Ireland) or very very rarely like if I'm going to a wedding or something I might wear a heel + dress
EBearhug · 10/03/2022 17:12

I wear socks with nearly all my footwear. You won't usually see that I have socks under boots, but they're usually there. Otherwise I wear trainers or lace-ups. I only occasionally wear heels, which I won't wear socks with, and I don't wear socks with sandals. I walk to my surgery, so I will be in sensible footwear and socks.

If you go sockless in Britain for the winter months, you'll probably end up with chilblains or frostbite or something. Socks are a necessity - and I say that as someone who happily goes barefoot from about April to October, and in my youth would be barefoot even on frosty ground.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 10/03/2022 17:14

@TheKeatingFive

I never even imagined that anyone would wear socks with boots. I can't get my head around that image even

Just open your eyes love, it's everywhere 😉

Married at First Sight Australia's sockless men are beginning to make more sense now ...

Yeah maybe it's an Aussie thing, I'm in Ireland, it's cold and/or wet here most of the time, socks are a must! Although even in somewhere hot like Australia I would have thought women would wear socks with runners/trainers? Sweaty feet in hot runners is grim
liveforsummer · 10/03/2022 17:29

Why would it matter if the socks look ridiculous. I mean none of it looks exactly stylish. Absolutely zero functional reason to remove socks for a smear

Cognoscenti · 10/03/2022 17:35

Imagining the bacteria and probable stench coming from the shoes (with the obvious exception of sandals and flip flops) of those who wear them barefoot... Especially boots without socks. 🤢
Socks don't go with some shoes, but that's the reason we have trainer socks, "invisible" socks, etc.

SmallElephants · 10/03/2022 17:38

Wow I came for the smear dilemma but am staying for the “no women wear socks”. This is amazing!!!
You can pry my socks from my cold dead feet btw. Socks forever.

SmallElephants · 10/03/2022 17:39

And you couldn’t pay me enough to wear boots with no socks.

liveforsummer · 10/03/2022 17:40

Horrified people wear boots without socks Shock. Feet must be like leather themselves with the rough rubbing against them like that. And most get so sweaty when it's warm where socks actually prevent that. The exception maybe being sheepskin uggs which I wear sock less once I relegate them to slippers when they've done their street duty.

SmallElephants · 10/03/2022 17:42

I wear socks with my slippers.

WonderfulYou · 10/03/2022 17:52

NRTFT but there was a thread a couple of years ago worrying about genitalia smell and everyone who has preformed smear tests said that the feet smell is way worse!

Wash your feet, put clean socks on and leave them on definitely!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/03/2022 17:52

@SmallElephants

I wear socks with my slippers.
Me too
HappeeInParis · 10/03/2022 18:07

Half my family are in Australia. Women definitely wear socks there 😂

I reckon if a nurse performing a smear is in any way able to notice and comment upon/judge your socks, your most pressing matter after the smear is done is getting a gynae referral for a pretty spectacular prolapse.

Cas112 · 10/03/2022 18:12

What reason do they need to be taken off 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

LivingOnAPear · 10/03/2022 18:23

I’m glad it’s not just me. I always have the same dilemma during smears, sweeps, giving birth.
I think I’ve left them on.

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 10/03/2022 18:30

🤣

drawingpad · 10/03/2022 18:37

I don't wear socks but I can't imagine it would cross my mind to take them off if I did.

Emmelina · 10/03/2022 18:43

Why wouldn’t you keep them on? You’re only on the couch for a couple of minutes.

ButtockUp · 10/03/2022 18:46

They're looking at your noonie not your verrucas.
