YANBU- yes, keep them on, you’re not there for a shag.

YABU- take them off, you look ridiculous.

@Riapia

I kept my specs on and they managed to work round them.
I would certainly hope so.

Lordy! Where is your cervix?? 😂
YellowPlant · 10/03/2022 14:04

@mizzo

I usually keep socks on but last time I went for a smear I foolishly wore a jumpsuit and somehow just the bra felt slightly less ridiculous than bra and socks.
This made me properly laugh. Imagine the dawning realisation of the fact you were wearing a jumpsuit. If you’re not just joking and it’s actually real then you have all my sympathy.

@charliebear78

Isn't it funny how we hide our underwear under our other clothes..
Hahaha and I thought I was alone doing this, through countless fertility scans and stuff, knickers always tucked under my trousers. Socks stayed on!
SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 10/03/2022 14:05

I usually leave my shoes on too!

Titsflyingsouth · 10/03/2022 14:06

Interesting what worries people. I always panic that I will queef when the nurse removes the speculum... Blush

UpsyDaisysarmpit · 10/03/2022 14:08

Definitely! I left mine on because I get really cold feet!

ludge · 10/03/2022 14:09

The very lovely lady who did my last one actually told me to keep my socks on so my feet didn't get cold, bless her!

nearlyspringyay · 10/03/2022 14:09

Wouldn't occur to me take them off! I try and wear a skirt or dress and flip flops

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/03/2022 14:12

Well, this thread has cheered me right up! Thanks all.

To answer your questions, socks on! I prefer socks on at all times though because I hate feet. Only squidgy little baby feet are acceptable.

This is quite possibly my worse nightmare. Especially as I quite often forgo a bra if it not cold. I'd have to leave my socks for a bit of dignity.
Sidge · 10/03/2022 14:15

I do about 500 smears a year. I don’t mind if you keep your socks on 😁

I do get asked occasionally “do I need to take my knickers off”.

Yes please, it tends to make my job easier.

I always specify just remove your shoes, trousers and knickers, yet despite that I had a woman strip naked once.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 10/03/2022 14:16

@Snog

Why on Earth would you remove your socks???? Are you trying to get pregnant?
Ah, socks - my favourite contraceptive.
BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/03/2022 14:17

Ah, socks - my favourite contraceptive.

Of all the comments on this thread, this is the one that has me properly chuckling!

Jericha · 10/03/2022 14:20

@Northernsoullover "smear mode" Grin

girlmom21 · 10/03/2022 14:23

I saw someone post the other day that a nurse told them to keep their socks on "because there's nothing worse than having a smear and cold feet" and I don't think anyone can dispute that!

thepeopleversuswork · 10/03/2022 14:26

This just wouldn’t cross my mind tbh. It has no bearing on the actual smear: why does it matter?

Babyghirl · 10/03/2022 14:27

@HappeeinParis
Would you take your knickers off when getting ur feet done 😂😂😂😂

SartresSoul · 10/03/2022 14:28

Always kept mine on, I think it would be weird to remove them.

babyjellyfish · 10/03/2022 14:28

Always socks on!

When I was having fertility treatment I had fortnightly scans through the summer and I sometimes used to wear sandals without socks but pop some socks on for the scan.

I figured my doctor wouldn't want my feet up by his face.

VickyEadieofThigh · 10/03/2022 14:29

WHO said it was unreasonable? I always keep my socks on.

StrawberrySquash · 10/03/2022 14:31

I always have this dilemma. On feels weird, so off they come! But illogical.

NewBrownMouse · 10/03/2022 14:31

This thread and some of the responses has made me giggle, to answer the question I've always kept mine on

mizzo · 10/03/2022 14:35

@YellowPlant
Totally real, unfortunately for me. The nurse thought it was hilarious and gave me a comforting piece of blue roll so I could at least attempt some modesty!

katepilar · 10/03/2022 14:37

Ideally clean socks to reduce smelly feet.
