YANBU- yes, keep them on, you’re not there for a shag.

YABU- take them off, you look ridiculous.

When I went for mine a few months ago I had assumed the position (with socks on) and as the nurse approached she started laughing. I’d forgotten that I was wearing socks with ducks on, she said they were the highlight of her day.

Ruibies · 10/03/2022 15:31

I always keep mine on, but this has reminded me of when I kept them on for an early 8wk pregnancy scan. It was internal, and the chair was hugely tilted down, my socked feet kept sliding. I had to use every single leg and foot muscle clenched as hard as possible to stop my feet sliding down as he fiddled around up there looking for the baby. Absolute nightmare, like trying to hold in a tickly cough.

Legoninjago1 · 10/03/2022 15:31

I love this. On for for sure. Smile

ThinWomansBrain · 10/03/2022 15:32

& always try and make sure that knickers are colour co-ordinated
(I did that for a mamogram too recently, I remember thinking how daft it was at the time)

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 10/03/2022 15:33

Not sock related although I leave mine on and gave birth with socks on maybe it's related- but I had a smear recently and when booking it the receptionist reminded me to wear a mask so I said ok pants off mask on and she thought this was hilarious! They can see my fanny but not my face 😂

MarmiteWine · 10/03/2022 15:37

@KupoNutCoffee

I mean...I wear tights and skirt normally...so taking them off is fairly compulsory. Grin

If i do happen to be wearing trousers and socks...they stay on...if they're matching. If not they come off, and tucked under my trousers with knickers, as if they have never seen a pair of socks or underwear before....

I was a tights and skirt wearer. For my very first smear a very helpful friend suggested I wear stockings with a suspender belt instead of tights, the idea being that I just whipped off my knickers and was ready to go...

Friend wasn't helpful enough to specify that knickers go on after the suspenders so of course I put the knickers on first and got myself in a right knot! And was so embarrassed by the whole thing that I couldn't fasten the suspenders when I got dressed again afterwards Blush

Socks all the way for me now Grin and, yes, at my smear just yesterday, I kept them on.

burnoutbabe · 10/03/2022 15:41

Smear good god no. I don't also want to worry about smelly feet (more of an issue when i usually walk in trainers to the appointment whereas other bits have generally had a good clean before we go.

i had a gynie check up years ago and he commented my socks were the wrong day of the week (they did match though) so that was nice small talk :)

idril · 10/03/2022 15:52

I always take mine off! Never occurred to me not to. Plus they usually come off with my jeans so I'd have to put them back on which might seem a bit weird. (Yes, I still wear skinny jeans despite the fact they are not longer fashionable Smile)

I also can't put my jeans on over my socks (well, I can, but it's more difficult as they don't slide over) so it's easier to take them off for re-dressing purposes.

TheOGWanKenobi · 10/03/2022 15:54

I went to see the midwife once for a routine appt and she said "hiya, just take your coat off and hop onto the couch while I get your notes" and turned away from me to her desk...

Unfortunately I thought she said just take your clothes off so yanked off my jeans and knickers and hopped onto the couch. Her face when she turned round was a little...surprised. I felt even more embarrassed as I had only taken my "bottom" clothes off so had my fanjo out but my jumper and jacket still on Blush

My face still feels a little hot remembering it, and the DD who I was pregnant with, is at uni now Grin

girlmom21 · 10/03/2022 15:56

@TheOGWanKenobi didn't you question why she wanted you half naked? 😂

idril · 10/03/2022 15:56

@ThinWomansBrain

always take mine off am feeling weird now realising that no one else does Shock
Same!

But actually I don't really care. More convenient for me to take them off (see above post for jeans reason) so I will continue to do that!

Justme10 · 10/03/2022 15:57

I always have a small panic in my head about this but always keep them on and hide my pantsGrin

I'm a skinny jeans wearer and it's always one sock that comes off so I just put it back on Grin

i wouldn't remove my socks. but might wear my best coloulful jazzy ones for the occasion.

Socks are not going to make this seem any ridiculous than it already does

Star Underrated post Grin Star

EBearhug · 10/03/2022 16:06

I have no memory of whether I kept my socks on or not at my last one, nor when I then saw the GP a week or so later for a follow up. It was only a couple of months ago. It's clearly not something I worry about.

thecatsthecats · 10/03/2022 16:10

@incognitoforthisone

I wouldn't take my socks off, no. They're looking at your fanny, not your feet.

My view is that when we have a smear we're lying half-dressed, legs akimbo, on a weird little narrow padded bench thing, partially draped with paper towels, while a stranger pokes things up the business end. Socks are not going to make this seem any ridiculous than it already does.

I think this about the paper towels to be honest.

I had a nurse who was SO awkward about me not wanting a faffy piece of paper, she made me clench up.

I mean, the presence of a small piece of tissue does not elevate the occasion to one of dignity. It just flaps about wasting carbon.

PinaColada123456 · 10/03/2022 16:13

I don't get your post. Why would you even be wearing socks? Don't you wear flats, heels, sandals or slip ons? The only people I know who wear socks in public are men, or school girls and boys. And runners that wear socks with their sneakers. Women otherwise don't wear socks.

20viona · 10/03/2022 16:13

Why the fuck would you consider taking them
off it isn't a toe examination 😂

PinaColada123456 · 10/03/2022 16:15

Seriously, what shoes are you wearing that you even wear socks with them? Most women I know don't even own socks except those lovely thick bed socks.

What about women in sensible shoes & boots, it's not always daft heels and sandals weather

What an absolutely bonkers response. I don't think I've worn any shoes with socks for the last, perhaps, 4 years...

I like trainers and boots and I'm not a man.

20viona · 10/03/2022 16:20

@PinaColada123456 what a paragraph of idiocy.

What sensible shoes would women wear socks with? And I've never heard of wearing socks with boots.

So you agree with me then? So why is my post bonkers?
