To think no one has these in their house?

Currently redecorating (hence user name) and looking for inspiration for pictures or prints to go on the walls. All the sites I'm looking at are full of stuff like this! Surely no one IRL actually has stuff like this on their walls?

If you can make it to one of these at any point, OP, they are brilliant: affordableartfair.com/

AliceAbsolum · 10/03/2022 15:23

@worriedatthistime Very true. I think the virtue signaling is to stave off the guilt

MangyInseam · 10/03/2022 15:27

And actually, I get a lot of my prints and things in second hand shops. Not real antique type places, I couldn't afford that, but charity shops or junky antique places.

You can often find some really interesting things. I have a bunch of old framed engravings I found totally by chance in one place and they cost almost nothing. I had to dig around a bit for them though. Church sales can also be a good place to find things.

Laniania · 10/03/2022 15:31

@daisyjgrey maybe OP doesn't think so, no reason she has to take your approach to buying prints.

Laniania · 10/03/2022 15:32

(Wouldn't buy generic art off the internet myself tbh but no harm in it if OP wants to and buying from local artists can be a lot more expensive.)

MsFernBotanical · 10/03/2022 15:33

I think they're awful, just like the 'naked' and 'bath' things.

Of course you're naked in the bath!!!

Etsy is fab for prints/etchings/lithographs etc., I love it.

ThisBloodyNoiseInMyHead · 10/03/2022 15:33

They're terrible. A friend of mine has the Live, Love, Laugh crap.

donquixotedelamancha · 10/03/2022 15:34

funny how its always middle or upper class that do the judging though isn't it

How on earth do you know everyone's class? I think this type of 'art' is very middle class- everyone I know who has some is richer than me (not hard).

So many judgy people on this site you probably all have crap others don't like as well

I know full well my taste in decore is idiosyncratic and don't mind being judged at all but it is, at least, my taste- it's the juxtaposition of people thinking they are showing depth and character by displaying incredibly generic phrases which makes it ammusing.

donquixotedelamancha · 10/03/2022 15:36

A friend of mine has the Live, Love, Laugh crap.

If you were a true friend you'd mock them until they took it down.

BeanyBops · 10/03/2022 15:36

Filler for gallery walls.

ememem84 · 10/03/2022 15:39

I have a cross stitch in my bathroom which says “have a nice poo”

Ylvamoon · 10/03/2022 15:48

🤣 reminds me of my old boss... he had a few tastless pictures on the office wall... Like Sharing is Caring (Barbie with 2x Ken in bed) ... Keep an eye in the balls (I leave this image to your imagination) and it's all your shit (again, apply your immigration!) .

But nope I can't imagine anyone having these in their home.

Rosehugger · 10/03/2022 15:50

Hahaha!
KaptainKaveman · 10/03/2022 15:50

@worriedatthistime

So many judgy people on this site you probably all have crap others don't like as well , why does it really matter what people put up in their homes Some of you have judged the people already yet prob all had be kind all over your facebook etc ,
Nah, that 'be kind' waffle is pointless and unimaginative.
Bluesheep8 · 10/03/2022 15:52

I think these count as class identifiers.

I think people buying things I don't happen to like and displaying them in their homes is behaviour that spans the classes.

Fleurty · 10/03/2022 15:54

I wouldn't have any of this on my walls, but only on mumsnet would you get people judgy enough to insult people's intelligence for liking something they don't.

I'm sure the 'thick' people who buy this would hate your Laura Ashley and pelmet curtains too, not sure they'd be so angry about it though...

1forAll74 · 10/03/2022 15:55

I hate this kind of stuff, but there must be a market for it. crappy stuff always sells well.

The worst written sign that some one bought for me was a garden sign, that said , Welcome to Mary's Garden ( not real name). it was a wooden plaque type of thing, so I just painted over it, and used it as an extra house number sign.

Benjispruce5 · 10/03/2022 16:07

Cringey.

Benjispruce5 · 10/03/2022 16:08

They’re ok for a friend’s birthday card but can’t imagine wanting language like that on my wall every day. They stop being funny after the first read.

SiobhanSharpe · 10/03/2022 16:10

The trouble with galleries and even some local exhibitions is that they can be very expensive. I have a friend who exhibits and their work starts in the high £££s and goes into the high ££££s.
It's wonderful but of course far fewer people can afford it.
But you can look at wall art in sites like Brand Alley or even Ikea for very cheap reasonable prints etc and if you fall out of love with them, or they become ubiquitous, well you can get rid via the Charity shops and move on to something else.

LoveFall · 10/03/2022 16:28

We stayed in a self-catering place on Maui. It was absolutely saturated with Christian messages. It is nice the owners are Christian, but frankly I had to turn them over. A lovely portrait of Jesus on top of the toilet tank did not inspire me.

Smorgasbordbaby · 10/03/2022 16:28

My son recently made a sign at school that says "live, laugh, go fuck yourself". The school rang me before letting him bring it home but tbh we were all quite pleased about it because he's autistic and hates art lessons and normally uses the nice pens to draw complicated electrical circuitry diagrams. It's in his bedroom with strict instructions he's not to show it to any grandparents or his younger sister (or the baby but the baby's skills currently reach to crying, shitting and sucking his thumb so I'm not too worried about that).

Vitani · 10/03/2022 16:29

My DP has a bowel condition, so I might present him with the shits and giggles one for a laugh. Blush

Not keen on the others.

Ex MIL used to have one in the kitchen about not needing a dishwasher because she had a husband. And something about lots of wine. I can't remember it all.

Neverendingdust · 10/03/2022 16:30

Sitting on my hands not to type what I think of those….🤪

Toomuchtrouble4me · 10/03/2022 16:30

I once saw a box of kids t-shirts in a clothing wholesalers - pink, glittery writing “Mummy’s little slut” no word of a lie! Shock
