to think I am going to be starving at this wedding?

Wedding breakfast is at 4:30pm.

Evening food will be wedding cake and some cheese.

AIBU to think I am going to have to bring along a sandwich and some late night snacks?

I went to a wedding where it was cheese in the evening - was literally a slice of cheese, two crackers and a couple of grapes. Nowhere near enough for all the guests, especially as some were very drunk and clearly needed some stomach lining 😀. We had a stop off on the way back.

I think weddings are a vortex of time and calories - normal rules do not apply! Take snacks op.

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 06/03/2022 17:06

a large mid evening snack of cake and a cheeseboard

Why? why would anyone want to make the guests at their wedding, so presumably relatives or close friends not just random people 🤮 because I would, and so would my DH.

gavisconismyfriend · 06/03/2022 17:07

Always wise to take snacks!

gettingolderandgrumpy · 06/03/2022 17:07

I don’t think you’ll be starving by evening op . 3 course meal at 4.30 probably take up 2 hours to finish . So by time you finish it’s your normal evening meal time . I think having evening food would be a waste you’ll still be full.

WonderfulYou · 06/03/2022 17:07

I very much doubt you will need any more food unless the wedding breakfast is very slim pickings.

If you have a big appetite than most eat a bigger lunch and have a snack when you get home.

GoldFigure · 06/03/2022 17:07

You'll be fine, you'll be stuffed from a 3 course meal then cake, and I would imagine the cheese is a big thing of cheese, biscuits, fruit etc.

However I would find a way to have lunch. A 4.30 sit down could easily slip later and I'd be starving by then with no lunch.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/03/2022 17:07

Wedding breakfast is usually three courses isn't it?

Surely a bit of cheese and crackers and cake at about 9 is perfect after a massive meal at 4.30-5.30?

ilovesooty · 06/03/2022 17:08

My niece had a buffet at 4.30 when she got married. I don't seem to remember being hungry at any point.

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/03/2022 17:08

Most do not pudding every day , except maybe some children. If you start eating normally now op your body will adjust to normal portions by the wedding.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/03/2022 17:08

What are the logistical issues around having lunch and breakfast? Maybe we can make some suggestions?

I'd say a good Brunch at 10.30/11 would be sufficient and I'm a trougher.

Wafflesnsniffles · 06/03/2022 17:09

I dont see what your issue is Op. A meal at 4:30pm -that will probably take aaaages. Then in the evening wedding cake, nibbles and drinks. Why wouldnt that be enough?

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 06/03/2022 17:09

@KindlyKanga

How much do you normally eat at night?
Not cheese or cake - that's not a meal, it's something to give you indigestion at 2am.
PuppyMonkey · 06/03/2022 17:09

Confused at OP here. You’ll be “starving” at 9-ish. So by that logic, you usually have your evening meal at 7pm and you’re always starving again at midnight?

OnceaTeacherAlwaysOne · 06/03/2022 17:10

Your first line lost me.

I must be out of touch with weddings.

'Breakfast' at 4.30pm?

Never heard of that.

I'd regard it as high tea or a very early dinner.

what time is the actual ceremony?

BigHairyCoconut · 06/03/2022 17:10

YANBU if it's a Mr Kiplings French Fancy and a Babybel.

PurpleDaisies · 06/03/2022 17:11

Wedding meals aren’t normally massive in my experience, even if they’re three courses. If it runs late, just some cheese and crackers wouldn’t keep me full all evening.

I would most likely be hungry too and have a sandwich in my bag just in case.

The wedding breakfast is the first meal after the wedding. Thats the standard name.

The wedding meal is traditionally known as 'the wedding breakfast' no matter what time it's served.
toomuchlaundry · 06/03/2022 17:12

@OnceaTeacherAlwaysOne that is the name of the first meal after you are married, it's not an actual breakfast (you are breaking the fast after you are married)

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 06/03/2022 17:13

Why do you think that?

We did cheese in the evening at our wedding, there was lots of various types of cheese, crackers, bread, grapes, celery, a bit of salad, and pork pie. Plus a tonne of rich fruit cake. Our guests weren't hungry.

Pedalpushers · 06/03/2022 17:13

A 3 course meal finishing about an hour/half an hour before you usually eat, then snacks later? Sounds like plenty to me, sorry, and similar to pretty much every wedding I've ever been to without ever 'starving'.

Ragwort · 06/03/2022 17:15

Surely you've heard the expression 'wedding breakfast' it's hardly a full English Hmm?

Now that I can get on board with!
CheshireChat · 06/03/2022 17:17

But there is no main meal? So just some breakfast and a supper with cheese and that?
