Wedding breakfast is at 4:30pm.

Evening food will be wedding cake and some cheese.

AIBU to think I am going to have to bring along a sandwich and some late night snacks?

You're supposed to get completely sozzled & therefore not need much food, too.

Takeawaytonight · 06/03/2022 16:49

Take a can of pringles in a wne gift bag stick it on your table Grin

Hmm

Wedding breakfast is at 4.30pm. Will probably take you to 6pm-ish and I would imagine will consist of starter, main, dessert and coffee. You'll then have cheese and cake later.

How much do you normally eat?!

No wonder the majority of the country is obese.

TheKeatingFive · 06/03/2022 16:52

I've never in my life been offered cheese without at least biscuits, so quite why anyone thinks it'll be just blocks of cheese is beyond me.

Proudboomer · 06/03/2022 16:52

What exactly is a wedding breakfast if it is being eaten at 4.30. Sounds like a way to get out of paying for a full meal in which case I would be hungry again later especially if I hadn’t had anything since breakfast that morning. Cake and cheese is an odd combination to feed the evening guests as well. A sliver of wedding cake and some cheese buscuits and maybe grapes won’t soak up a lot of booze.

PinkNails1 · 06/03/2022 16:53

What are you having for the wedding breakfast? You’ll probably be served around 5pm so why don’t you have breakfast and lunch? You won’t starve. Maybe pack a cereal bar for later in the evening (I hate cheese).

You’re on Mumsnet where women seem to live on salads and air. I’m underweight and eat 3 meals and some snacks and… gasp I have a snack after 8pm!!

Whydoesthecatalwaysdothat · 06/03/2022 16:53

I'm so glad I'm married. I think I would elope if I had my time again.

One of my friends went to a wedding and was slating the bride and groom's first dance because they were ballroom dancers and had choreographed it. I thought a little less of her after that.

BeHappy91818 · 06/03/2022 16:53

I don’t see what’s wrong with that personally. It’s just an early meal and then cake and cheese.

Halllyup17 · 06/03/2022 16:53

Three course meal at 4:30pm, then cake and cheese later? Honestly, I'd be stuffed (and I can eat a lot).

Blossomtoes · 06/03/2022 16:55

I wouldn’t be remotely hungry after that little lot, let alone starving.

Momicrone · 06/03/2022 16:56

It sounds alot to me. You sound a bit resentful about going to be honest

sadpapercourtesan · 06/03/2022 16:57

@Fairislefandango

I’m honestly not entirely sure there will be the biscuits, fruit etc though! I think there is a high possibility it will just be… cheese?!

Oh come on... why on earth would you think that? Who the hell does a buffet of just 'blocks of cheese'?!

I really want to invite people to a cheese and wine party now, and then present them with huge blocks of mousetrap Grin

and maybe a couple of those big Velveeta blocks for variety

cuno · 06/03/2022 16:58

Wedding breakfast, so three course meal, at 4:30, so you'll be eating until around 6. You'll also presumably be drinking alcohol all day, and then at night cheese and cake. No, it won't be a bloody block of cheese, it'll be like a cheeseboard with crackers and bread and such. To be honest that's probably more than a day's calorie intake, and that doesn't count whatever you eat for breakfast/lunch or potential snacks before the wedding. You certainly won't be starving.

gunnersgold · 06/03/2022 16:58

Isn't wedding breakfast dinner ? That will take a few hours ? Then cake .. How much do you need to eat. ???

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 06/03/2022 16:59

DH and I went to a vair fancy wedding where the (free and free-flowing) drinks reception after the (lunchtime) service went on for so long, with not even a cheese straw in sight, that at half four we nipped out for a toasted sandwich from the café down the road from the hotel. As dinner wasn't served until nearly 8, we were very glad we'd done so!

titchy · 06/03/2022 17:00

Why would you think it was just a couple of blocks of cheeseConfused 'Cheese' means a variety of cheeses and a variety of bread and crackers. Plus maybe chutneys. And cake. All after a three course meal that you won't finish till 6.30. I like my food but how on earth do you think you'll still be hungry?

KindlyKanga · 06/03/2022 17:00

Might be one of those towers of cheese that look like a mouldy wedding cake

luxxlisbon · 06/03/2022 17:01

Do you really think 4:30 is an abnormal time for dinner at a wedding? I would say the majority of times the call for dinner is around 4:30 with service sometime around 5pm.

With a ceremony time of 2pm or 1/12:30 followed by canapés, drinks and mingling it sounds completely normal.

MintyFreshBreath · 06/03/2022 17:02

It’s just a very weird time for the meal isn’t it? I’d take a few snacks just in case because if you’ve got the ceremony/drinks reception/photos beforehand, you’ll be chewing your arm off by 4.30pm. Can’t really say about later in the evening as I don’t know what your appetite is like.

EthelTheAardvark · 06/03/2022 17:02

I think there is a high possibility it will just be… cheese?!

Why? Has anyone said anything that leads you to think that? The notion that they are seriously expecting the guests just to eat chunks of cheddar, brie and stilton is really quite bizarre.

PiperPosey · 06/03/2022 17:02

OP
OH I hope and pray that you NEVER get IBS...Trust me on this.
Also tuck some energy bars in your bag...there solved.

mrsm43s · 06/03/2022 17:02

You'll be having a slightly early dinner, which will finish at around 6-6.30.

You'll then be provided with a large mid evening snack of cake and a cheeseboard.

I think you'll be fine!

pussycatunpickingcrossesagain · 06/03/2022 17:03

@Aztecprint6 do all the wedding shit as little as you can , then while they're fannying around with photos, go to the chippy/curry house/chinese and feed yourself then you can attend the evening reception with hopefully a clean outfit a full/smug face, while the rest of the guests are chewing on the chair legs.😁 Halo 🍟

Baconandmaplesyrup · 06/03/2022 17:03

I think people are being harsh. Sone people eat an awful lot of food and yes after finished a big meal about 6.30 would still be starving at 9 and cheese biscuits and cake wouldn’t be enough for them. The op is clearly very food focused if she’s even thinking like this.

Op, no for most people this would be plenty of food, more than is normally eaten, but if it’s not enough for you then yes bring some sandwiches to help see you through each hour.

toomuchlaundry · 06/03/2022 17:06

We are going to a wedding that starts at 1.30, only doing nibbles for ceremony guests and then a buffet when the evening guests arrive. Think they are hoping everyone has a very big early lunch before arriving. I will be taking snacks!
