How many house plants do you have?

I have 20 but I know people who have 80. How many house plants do you have and AIBU to say that having house plants is good for mental health and wellbeing?

Between 15 and 20, I keep realising I forgot one when counting up. My cat loves chewing plants so I have to choose safe ones but he's managed to murder a spider plant while I wasn't looking.

My favourite is a fairly big Pachira Aquatica. I have lots more plants outside. I really enjoy looking after plants and watching them grow.

longtompot · 04/03/2022 22:49

About 30, but there are lots of succulents in the pots too so probably closer to 50. I love house plants

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 04/03/2022 22:49

@DangerousMouse

About 3-400 Blush
Shock I would hyperventilate in your house DangerMouse

I have a (rational) hatred of houseplants . I love garden plants but ....
My DMum was /still is a Hoarder .
She did completely OTT collections of random tat , one of which was plants .
Every surface in the house was covered in plants/bits of plants in water
(Her collections included books, teapots, cruets, clocks . Bloody hundreds of them)

DD has 3 cacti . They are in her room and not allowed out !

Scarby9 · 04/03/2022 22:50

None.
I kill them all.

Looubylou · 04/03/2022 22:54

Zero. They attract creepy crawlies, in my experience. I find them a bit gross. Love plants outside though.

galacticpixels · 04/03/2022 22:55

I don't have a lot of room in our apartment for plants but I do love them. I have a snake plant (that probably needs to be moved to a bigger pot) that I've had for 4 years, and I have 8 cacti. Two of the cacti my DP's dad gave to me. They both flower once a year for a day or two.

JudgeJ · 04/03/2022 22:57

@teaandtoastwithmarmite

2 orchids. Been wanting to get more
I have a 15 year old orchid, usually has 20+ flowers and a couple of Christmas cacti, one of which must be about 25 years old. Luckily they thrive on neglect.
RaspberryBunny · 04/03/2022 23:09

About 5 cacti, an orchid, a monstera, a few succulents, and 26543 aloe veras which keep multiplying despite being separated and given away to various family and friends Confused

MagnoliaXYZ · 04/03/2022 23:13

Zero, my cats keep knocking them off so I've given up! I buy and grow far too many for the garden though - neighbours, colleagues and friends have seedlings and plants provided every year.

Sahara123 · 04/03/2022 23:14
  1. I love them . Can’t imagine the house without them . 🌵🌿🌱🪴
Ballsaque · 04/03/2022 23:16

How do people have room for 50 plants?!

I have shutters so windowsills are out. I don’t have enough surfaces!

DomesticatedZombie · 04/03/2022 23:18

fucking hunners. I can't resist them.

msssm · 04/03/2022 23:21
  1. Once I have moved house and am settled I plan to add to them. I love plants.
PinkButtercups · 04/03/2022 23:22

None Grin.

I just can't be bothered with them. And I don't know why but I hate seeing them on windowsills on other peoples houses. I don't really know why.

ClariceQuiff · 04/03/2022 23:24

I grew up in a house stuffed to the gills with houseplants bought by my hoarder parents. Can't stand the wretched things.

ItsOnlyWordsInnit · 04/03/2022 23:25

@HereLiesBetelgeuse

Between 10 and 20. I'd love more but my cat is an arsehole and chews them and it's difficult to find any that are not poisonous to cats. I love plants in the house
I've just adopted two plants specifically because they're supposedly non-toxic to felines. One is a bamboo palm (something seifrizii), the other is a calathea leopardina. Twill be a miracle if they survive in this household. Actually I was going to start a thread anyway to ask how much misting plants need in winter if they like humidity - every day, a few times a week? Misting is a new concept for me, it never occurred to me to give them water anywhere but onto the roots before...
CurlyTop1980 · 05/03/2022 06:35

I love houseplants. I really got into this during lockdown. I have loads. I started with 5/6 plants. My cousin is also house plant mad and he shared all his tips. I now follow this. Every 6 months or so I change the pots, new compost. Wash the roots and soak them in fresh water with fertiliser. Then I split them and plant. I've given loads away doing this too.

The only one I have had problems with is chain of pearls succulents . I've killed 3 so far.....

This is one of my plant corners.

How many house plants do you have?
Oblomov22 · 05/03/2022 06:52

None. I kill them. I like a vase of daffodils or lillies.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 05/03/2022 06:56

At the moment I have 16, a couple died over the winter. I also have a lovely vase of tulips at the moment. I shall be buying a few more once I have moved house.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 05/03/2022 07:02

Five at the moment, sometimes none. I have a few artificial ones too as I'm not great with them.

efeslight · 05/03/2022 07:02

Love the photo above curlytop. Like the idea of having a corner with multiple plants together, i tend to have them standing alone and i wonder if they look a little lost.
I have about 30 house plants, most doing ok, but really struggle with orchids. Got 1 at the moment that is losing its flowers, what do i do next?

OatSprout · 05/03/2022 07:02

About 23 but want more. I couldn’t be without them. I need more calatheas asap!

Simonjt · 05/03/2022 07:11

About 40? The only places we don’t have plants is our bedrooms, when we had the en-suite done up we had it specifically designed so we could have quite a few hanging plants.

GeneLovesJezebel · 05/03/2022 07:14

I’ve got a peace lily that has gone yellow, don’t know what to do with it. I’ve tried watering it well, keeping it drier, in the sun, in the shade. Just can’t seem to get it back to what it was. Should I Chuck it ?

WindyKnickers · 05/03/2022 07:16
  1. I'm starting some renovation work soon so I'm holding off buying more until that's done. We never had any growing up, my mum was useless with plants and my dad focused solely on growing vegetables in the garden. I'm really enjoying getting into it. My mum now has a couple of plastic plants, I have no idea why, that is the definition of pointless if you ask me.
