I have 20 but I know people who have 80. How many house plants do you have and AIBU to say that having house plants is good for mental health and wellbeing?

0, I love gardening but hate indoor plants.

Mykittensmittens · 04/03/2022 22:03

3 spider plants
1 oxalis
1 dragon tree
3 tradescantia
1 string of hearts
1 string of pearls
1 terrarium of 3 plants
1 terrarium of 2 plants
1 prayer plant (can’t recall it’s real name)
1 Boston fern
1 weird thing from ikea which I think is called ‘babies tears’
1 deadman’s fingers
1 Christmas cactus
2 money trees
1 cactus
1 ginormous parlour palm

And far too many things germinating on windowsills.

And yes they are very good for me.
I love watering and feeding them. But then I also love garden plants too!!

PureBlackVoid · 04/03/2022 22:04

19, including one dying orchid and one plant that has multiplied and waiting to be repotted.

I have a gap to fill with a tall, narrow plant, if anyone has suggestions 😁

WithRosesAroundTheDoor · 04/03/2022 22:05

[Mumbles] fucking hate you all with your green, living plants. Hmph.

SW1amp · 04/03/2022 22:07

@BeenHereForAges

0 I like plants I just don't like the pot of dirt they require to live.
Same I find the idea of having buckets of mud in the house realllly odd
Pegasussnail · 04/03/2022 22:07

Hmmm... 8 real plants

SarahAndQuack · 04/03/2022 22:08

I'm not sure but well over 5? They're DP's thing. I love them.

The only issue I have is when I want windowsill space for seeds at this time of year, and there's none to be had! Grin

I think they're definitely good for mental health. I especially love one window in the kitchen where she's got loads of different shades and shapes of green leaves on a wide shelf, so you get beautiful dappled green light.

SarahAndQuack · 04/03/2022 22:09

Grin Well over 50! I bloody hope I'd be able to give a more accurate figure if it were 'well over 5'.

Dutchesss · 04/03/2022 22:09

Four - an orchid, two parlor palms and a mini rose plant that was a present.

The orchid and palms are doing well, the rose not so much, it needs more attention / water than I give it.

Wailywailywaily · 04/03/2022 22:12

About 50. They are very good for my mental health.

Dutchesss · 04/03/2022 22:12

If you thought that much about where most other household items are from, then they probably wouldn't appeal to you either.

Indeed.

Besides which, I doubt anyone who keeps indoor plants alive, plants them in mud. That would be weird.

HereLiesBetelgeuse · 04/03/2022 22:15

Between 10 and 20. I'd love more but my cat is an arsehole and chews them and it's difficult to find any that are not poisonous to cats.
I love plants in the house

BrownStripePJ · 04/03/2022 22:16

5

I'd love more though!!

Which plants are hardest to kill and like shade?

WaitingToExhale · 04/03/2022 22:16

DangerousMouse · 04/03/2022 22:17

About 3-400 Blush

Jazzcafecoffee · 04/03/2022 22:20

18 but would have none if left to me for as much as I adore houseplants I just can’t keep them alive, good job dh is green fingered.

RedBonnet · 04/03/2022 22:20
  1. I've kept plants since I was given a coleus as a young child, so over 50 years. My oldest plants are over 25 years old - a dragon tree and a xmas cactus. (Both of which have been propagated many times). In fact I tend to keep plants that can be easily propagated. I get a lot of joy from growing babies from my stock 🥰
Chasingsquirrels · 04/03/2022 22:22

12 orchids.
About 16 Streptocarpus, although they need splitting & reporting.
2 peace lillies (which are on their way out).
1 gerbera.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 04/03/2022 22:22

Plants hate me. They look at me, curl up and turn brown.
However, I have two large onions in a bowl in the kitchen that have sprouted and now I have onion shoots about nine inches tall. I have told the whole family that the onions are off limits for cooking -- they are now house plants.

gogohm · 04/03/2022 22:23

Not sure, do mostly dead ones countGrin

Bluelillies · 04/03/2022 22:24

One-an aloe Vera called Vera
I did have two but I gave one away-the mother plant had a pup and scared the hell out of me as I didn’t know that’s what they did
She lives in our spare room and maybe gets fed and watered when someone notices she’s a tad dry-so every 6 months or so
I did buy her a new plant pot so in a few weeks she’ll die and I’ll have no house plants

We have planted two trees in the garden along with lilies, some plant with black leaves, two rose bushes (got as a Christmas present) and some plant that came with the house

Diversion · 04/03/2022 22:24

Just the one, he is called Jeffrey and was a leaving gift from a former client. My Mum has loads which I have to care for when they are away on their (frequent) holidays which is probably why I have just the one.
