How many house plants do you have?

I have 20 but I know people who have 80. How many house plants do you have and AIBU to say that having house plants is good for mental health and wellbeing?

OP posts:

Not as many as I'd like but we are away quite a bit so tend to pick things which need very little water or can be left outside in summer.

I have tried everything to kill it. Fucker just hangs in there. It's called Mother In Laws Tongue.

She absolutely did! Her question was "AIBU to say that having house plants is good for mental health and wellbeing?"[/quote]
This is not the same as saying - not having houseplants = poor mental health!

Anonymous48 · 08/03/2022 20:28

@JackieWeaversZoomAc

It's saying that your mental health will be better if you have house plants, so it pretty much is the same thing. No, she didn't say that my mental health is poor, but she said that it would be better if I had house plants, which is nonsense.

JackieWeaversZoomAc · 09/03/2022 00:06

She didn't say that at all but whatever.

Quirkyme · 09/03/2022 01:02

Omg lush. So many of you have LOADS.

There's me thinking I had a lot with 11!

Ladyrattles · 09/03/2022 01:28

7 real. 7 fake. I want more but my fam think I'm going overboard. I read it's good for mental health even if they are fake.

Ohdofuckofdear · 09/03/2022 01:31

Only 8 indoors, outside is a different number all together .

She definitely is NOT saying that in order to have good mental health you need to have house plants.

For a lot of people having house plants is good for their mental health same as others find gardening, walking, reading, listening to music etc is good for theirs

You seem determined to take offensive to her post

APurpleSquirrel · 09/03/2022 07:47

10 but I want more, just need the right plants for the right rooms.
My most successful are an orchid I've had for 11 years which despite all the care advice loves my south facing bedroom windowsill & a calamondin orange I got from IKEA which also loves our south facing living room windowsill.

She literally did!

"having house plants is good for mental health"

Anonymous48 · 09/03/2022 15:54

@mydogisthebest

I know she isn't saying house plants are essential for mental health, but she is saying someone's mental health would be improved by having house plants.

I'm not sure what "determined to take offensive" means, but I do find her post and her assumption that everyone should have house plants a little offensive. I know it wouldn't add to my quality of life.

TheSweetestHalleluja · 09/03/2022 15:56

About 15 I think? My spider plants keep having babies so that number may well grow!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/03/2022 15:58

13, but Unlucky no.13 is dying.

Yerroblemom1923 · 09/03/2022 15:59
  1. Being able to care for something and see it flourish is indeed good for mental health, or at least for mine it is.
AryaStarkWolf · 09/03/2022 16:00

3 in my office, 4 at home

But she is not saying everyone's mental health would be improved by having plants. She is saying the people that do have plants may well have their mental health improved by that.

If someone said mental health can be improved by going to a gym, and I am sure for many it can, I would not find it offensive just because I do not find that

Leftittothelastminute · 09/03/2022 18:47

1....... and thats only because the cat hasn't got to it yet!

JackieWeaversZoomAc · 10/03/2022 00:15

My mental health and well-being is absolutely improved by having and taking care of my many house plants.
My mental health and well-being is also absolutely improved by ignoring goady fuckers.

Anonymous48 · 10/03/2022 19:17

@mydogisthebest

I guess we both interpreted what she said differently. To me it sounds like she is saying that everyone's mental health would be improved by having house plants, which of course is ridiculous. It sounds like you think she's saying that some people find it helps their mental health, and if that is indeed what she meant then that makes perfect sense.

I do a sport and a craft, both of which I enjoy immensely, and both of which have a positive effect on my mental health. I would never suggest that everyone should do that exact sport and that exact craft.

giraffes2021 · 11/03/2022 07:53

Has this guy had it ??

How many house plants do you have?
mydogisthebest · 11/03/2022 08:27

I bought 3 plants in Ikea yesterday. 1 was real and 2 fake. I would never have bought fake plants in the past but I am finding having so many plants does take up quite a bit of time, watering, misting, checking on them etc.

I also have around 30 pots with plants in outside so that takes time too

ohlife08 · 11/03/2022 08:52

About 30 Smile they are wonderful for my MH (except when something goes wrong with one of them, haha! but even then that's a chance to try and learn from it)

Notjustanymum · 11/03/2022 12:32

4 real, 7 fake (on high shelves!). I find they are good for mental health, but only in the same way that an uncluttered, clean and nicely decorated room is to me…

bruce43mydog · 11/03/2022 15:20

1 house plant but it takes up space.
