What the hell was Liz Truss thinking!!?

So yesterday in a few interviews Liz Truss said she would support people going to fight in Ukraine. I couldn't believe it when i was watching her saying it, knowing Putins threats. This morning i've heard that apparently Putin has said that her comments are the reason he put his nuclear deterrent forces on high alert. So now it feels like if he was to attack any other country it would be the UK as he would use her comments as an excuse by saying the UK is threatening his country and people by letting people go and fight against the Russian army. Honestly how could she be that stupid!!

Exactly. He's got far bigger fish to fry. In any case, and I could be wrong obviously, but I suspect that what she meant was that if Ukrainians who live in the UK wanted to go over, she wasn't exactly going to stop them. A far cry from exhorting us all to take up arms.

Putin had to blame someone for his dickish statement about nuclear weapons, why not a women. If you really believe Putin put his nuclear power on high alert because of the comments of one person then I suggest you turn off your tv and go do something else.

Liz Truss is a strong woman and extremely highly educated. Since she has become Foreign Secretary a succession of inadequate men have tried to put her down. This is actually an indication of her strength. She knows her game.

Putin is a megalomaniac bully. To issue nuclear warnings is insane. To blame Liz Truss is gaslighting at its finest.

The only person to blame for Putin threatening to destroy the planet os Putin himself.

As a strong woman in a high profile role she has to take responsibility for her own actions, surely?

It's just being twisted - she could have been foot perfect and still be blamed by this dangerous and paranoid megalomaniac! Many countries are saying their people can go and fight in Ukraine and there won't be repercussions (she was just clarifying it would be classed the same as fight for/against ISIS).

I posted on the other thread that I think people are giving Liz Truss too much credit for annoying Putin. She's a woman, so she will annoy him whatever she says.

But Do you think she is the right person to be foreign secretary during this crisis no, this is the most useless Cabinet we've ever had.

Er…you don’t antagonise the violent bully when he has the knife to your throat. You talk him down, get him away from the knife, then come down on him like a ton of bricks.

Of course we need to stand up to him, but in the right way and at the right time. It’s obvious he’s not stable, it’s obvious he feels cornered. A little softly softly catches the monkey wouldn’t go amiss, surely?
