What the hell was Liz Truss thinking!!?

So yesterday in a few interviews Liz Truss said she would support people going to fight in Ukraine. I couldn't believe it when i was watching her saying it, knowing Putins threats. This morning i've heard that apparently Putin has said that her comments are the reason he put his nuclear deterrent forces on high alert. So now it feels like if he was to attack any other country it would be the UK as he would use her comments as an excuse by saying the UK is threatening his country and people by letting people go and fight against the Russian army. Honestly how could she be that stupid!!

’None of it is playing out as he expected, so he's becoming more and more like a toddler having a tantrum.’

This.

It’s amazing because after years of machinations and being a truly scary fucker he’s now acting like Trump. He’s lost his grip. Maybe all the Botox and filler leached into his brain?

Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 28/02/2022 15:05

We have a cabinet specifically picked by the PM not to challenge him. He has surrounded himself with idiots so his own idiocy is less noticeable. It is very scary to have a country run by these people.

Alexandra2001 · 28/02/2022 15:07

She should retract her statement and apologise to him

I'm highly critical of her & imho shouldn't have inc Moldova but she has said it now, learn and move one.
To apologise now would be weakness personified and give further reason for Putin to ridicule.

Itsnotover · 28/02/2022 15:08

I couldn’t agree more with this.
Ncwinc · 28/02/2022 15:09

We, as a nation, don’t vote for quiet, thoughtful people. We don’t vote for the middle ground or consensus politics. We vote for a good soundbite and some swagger at PMQs. You get the politicians you deserve.

LondonJax · 28/02/2022 15:09

@Bunnyfuller. How does Ukraine stall him without fighting? They didn't set up any border defences and he walked right in. The only reason he's not currently in Kyiv is because he met with resistance. But their weapons are running low. So NATO countries are sending supplies. That's annoying Putin. But without those supplies Ukraine will have to surrender. That's not stalling. Next stop who?

So how do you stall Putin? What's a less overt fight? Resistance like the French, Belgians, Poles had to in WWII? They only had to do that because they lost their countries God help them.

You've said it yourself, he was never going to stop. So, if Ukraine does a 'less overt fight' and loses where does he go next?

And how does a neutral Ukraine work? Ukraine want to join NATO because of the insane man on their border. So NATO should say no BECAUSE of the insane man on their border? Putin won't recognise a neutral Ukraine because he wants Ukraine as part of Russia. He'll see neutrality as a welcome mat.

@Keepyourheadscrewedon

He is trying to control language He is trying to control narratives He is trying to control expression

He is reminding every one one wrong word and you are fucking ash.

And people on here seem to be actually blaming Truss for this insanity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We live in a democracy folks, can I please remind you we are not in Russia. If your FM says people can go and support the war effort, then that is up to her, it is outrageous that he should be threatening a nuclear war for such a benign comment.

I believe that you are also trying to control language, narratives and expression by consistently trying to shut down discussion.

To turn this around, do you think that Truss is the right person for the job during this crisis?

jcyclops · 28/02/2022 15:10

Liz Truss was at the limit of her abilities opening new pork markets in Beijing. As Foreign Secretary, she is a liability and must be quickly gagged and hopefully replaced.

  1. At the beginning of February she pledged support for "our Baltic allies across the Black Sea" (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are at least 750 miles from the Black Sea)

  2. In mid-February at a high level meeting in Russia Truss was asked whether the U.K. accepted that Voronezh and Rostov regions belonged to Russia and that Russia had the right to move troops and equipment to the areas. Truss replied that “the U.K. will never recognize Russian sovereignty over these regions.” (Voronezh and Rostov are, and always have been in Russia). The British Ambassador had to jump in with a correction to shut her up.

  3. Now she supports Brits going to Ukraine to fight Russians - which is illegal - thus providing excuses for Putin's threatening escalation, even though the Russians know she is an idiot.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 28/02/2022 15:11

She should retract her statement and apologise to him

FFS! Hmm

Im sorry Mr Monster for possibly offending you in your act of war against Ukraine, please don’t press the red button….

Honestly!

She’s needs to be sacked/step down she’s clearly incompetent if he basic role of diplomacy!!!

Putin will likely just poison her if she’s on his shit list!!!

Ncwinc · 28/02/2022 15:12

It really doesn’t matter who we have in that role at the moment. It doesn’t matter what they say.

secular111 · 28/02/2022 15:22

I reckon the strategy is clear.

If the Russians don't withdraw from The Ukraine immediately, then Liz Truss gets parachuted into Moscow, with a bowl of Coco Pops, a spoon and perhaps even 300ml of semi-skimmed milk.

It's patently obvious that Putin and all Russians are utterly terrified of her. Imagine her turning-up at the doors of The Kremlin asking where her morning cappuccino is?

Mirw · 28/02/2022 15:23

If Putin thinks her comments give him the okay to fire nuclear weapons, the planet ends. No more worrying about climate change or moving countries. It is just all over. He is a madman.

UniversalAunt · 28/02/2022 15:26

Oh dear Ms Truss, just shot yourself in the proverbial foot, no Tory leadership race for you.

oncemoreunto · 28/02/2022 15:30

Liz Truss hasn't said anything different to what the Canadians are saying as far as I can see.
I don't think this is the huge story that some people think it is.

missymoo222 · 28/02/2022 15:31

In stitches at this

Autumndays123 · 28/02/2022 15:32

I think the messages coming from Russia today are quite clear. Yes Liz has made it 100x worse and needs to resign immediately, however, Russia's position is quite clear now - if they do not win this war, the next war, or any war, they will use nuclear weapons to destroy everything. It really is that simple and to be honest, it was only a matter of time before someone somewhere said give me ultimate power or I'll nuke everyone

DrManhattan · 28/02/2022 15:35

Is he gonna do that though? Surely one of his 'team' will take him out before he presses the button.

missymoo222 · 28/02/2022 15:37

@crowsfeet57

She should retract her statement and apologise to him

Don't be ridiculous. You can't appease these people. What's next? He'll invade Poland unless Boris combs his hair?

The old Soviet Union mocked Margaret Thatcher and called her the Iron Lady, because they were intimidated by her. Personally I think Liz Truss should consider it a compliment that they are calling her names.

Sorry my previous comment was in response to this ......... still laughing!
Autumndays123 · 28/02/2022 15:37

@DrManhattan

Is he gonna do that though? Surely one of his 'team' will take him out before he presses the button.
You'd be surprised how patriotic people can be and how some people are willing to follow leaders irrespective of what the results are. Just look at all the experiments where people have followed instructions and 'harmed' people for no reason other than because they were told to
Mochudubh · 28/02/2022 15:38

I posted on the invasion thread that politicians with actual military experience such as Tobias Elwood, James Heappey and Rory Stewart (I know he's not currently an MP), have contradicted her and essentially come out and said "Don't even think about it, you'll get yourself killed and endanger others".

Johnson, Truss and the rest of his cabal of idiots being in charge of the UK during this crisis fucking terrifies me.

Autumndays123 · 28/02/2022 15:39

It's an interesting dilemma as if the world back away because of the nuclear war threat, then it's shown to be effective and will be used again and again. If we don't back away then I think it's highly probable some red buttons will be pressed, do you really think Putin will let himself be humiliated like that?

Whatever the outcome, life as we knew it is very much gone.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 28/02/2022 15:41

@Bunnyfuller

Er…you don’t antagonise the violent bully when he has the knife to your throat. You talk him down, get him away from the knife, then come down on him like a ton of bricks.

Of course we need to stand up to him, but in the right way and at the right time. It’s obvious he’s not stable, it’s obvious he feels cornered. A little softly softly catches the monkey wouldn’t go amiss, surely?

Or is it be as forthright and defiant as possible until he goes completely off on one and blows us all to Kingdom come. Timing is a very important aspect.

You are joking right? You think we should all appease him as he murders innocent people? You stand up to a bully. He needs to be shown Ukraine will not be his easily. If people keep playing the softly approach, it'll be another country next. He won't stop at Ukraine and anyone believes he will, you're an idiot.
somanylies · 28/02/2022 15:42

Oh come on! Does anyone seriously believe that Putin is thinking, 'well, I wasn't going to use nuclear weapons but now that Liz Truss has said something a bit off, I will!'

He's using this as a way to evade responsibility for his own war-mongering choices. If you buy into it ' all being Liz's fault' you are entering into the mad inner psyche of Putin.

Viviennemary · 28/02/2022 15:43

A Ukranian, think he was an ex diplomat came on and said what Liz Truss said had nothing to do with Putins threats re nuclesr weapons. It's all bluster and trying to shift the blame elsewhere.

somanylies · 28/02/2022 15:44

Of course we need to stand up to him, but in the right way and at the right time. It’s obvious he’s not stable, it’s obvious he feels cornered. A little softly softly catches the monkey wouldn’t go amiss, surely?

Err, the world leaders of Europe were doing softly, softly and all that happened is he started a war in Europe.
