To wear tights with knickers?

Someone said you're not supposed to wear underpants when wearing tights - that they are 'pantyhose' with the pants built in. Have I been doing it wrong all my life?

I've googled and there seem to be different opinions, but I wanted to see the percentage split. AIBU TO wear tights with underpants underneath?

Tights usually have a seam from front to back.
If you don't want to be cut in half then wear knickers.

My Nan used to wear her knickers over her tights. Grim.

I remember when I was in primary school and my friend and I noticed that someone had pants over her tights. We wondered if we should tell her she’d put them on the wrong way round! 🤣

I wear knickers with tights. Tights don’t have a cotton gusset.

I've gotten my skirt tucked into my tights several times in the past. Hate to think how mortifying that would be without pants!

@starfishmummy I still don’t get it though. Is it that people are buying the wrong size or brand? When I wear mine I literally cannot see how it is physically possible for them to fall down - they cling to my body.

Tights are vile. A yeast infection waiting to happen, with or without pants. As for two pairs of pants: , in olden days MN parlance.

I have not worn tights since I was about 9. Horrible garments.

Yuck, I couldn't imagine not wearing anything underneath. But I know soooo many people that don't.

I'm a one under and one over type of gal so whoever said that would be appalled by me.

Shorter women like me find that the legs are a bit long and the crotch drops during wear. My lack of length in the trunk and chunkiness round the middle also means that the waists tend to roll over. I can’t buy smaller sizes or they don’t fit round me. I’m 5’3” and a size 16, with a ‘fashionable’ arse. If I could get them in a petite size, then I’d be very happy.

I dint know. I've tried many brands and sizes over the years. Even if I find a pair that works there is no guarantee that another pair from the same brand and the same size will be the same.

And yes they cling in places but the gusset always seems to droop...

No, I even wear a pair over the top just to maintain some dignity. I have been known to sit at my desk not realising my skirt has essentially become a belt…. I imagine tights could become whiffy quite quickly without knickers.

@MrsDeadpool I'm a short chunky person too, maybe that's the problem. Back in the 90s (maybe even the late 80s) M&s used to do a specific size aimed at short fat people - so fitted the bigger sizes but without the extra long legs they usually do in the plus sizes. Was gutted when they stopped making them.

I don't think it is the problem because I've always thought that the reason mine fall down is because I'm tall - and it used to happen even when I was very slim! I think the reason is just that tights are generally crap (I do find that snag don't have this problem - I assumed it was just marketing hype but they genuinely work for me)

Yep, those are the ones I wore for work in my 20s. It would be great if they brought them back!

I don't often wear tights but when I do yes I always wear knickers underneath them.

@starfishmummy and @MrsDeadpool Ah maybe that is it. I have very long legs and so does my mother so maybe that is why neither of us have ever heard about it?

Personally I buy cheap tights from primark or supermarkets so I don’t know if them being cheaper makes a difference but no matter what size I buy they fall down so it’s easier to pop a pair of knickers or shorts over the top!
