What’s the thing you fantasise about but probably wouldn’t do

Mine’s taking a day of annual leave from work. Getting on the train and doing my normal commute to work in the city. But then checking into a hotel, getting in my pjs, watch telly all day, order room service and sleep. Then get dressed at the end of the day and do my commute home. No one would know. 🤣 What’s yours?

@CounsellorTroi

I’m retired, but fantasise about getting up one morning as though I was going to work, driving to my former workplace, parking up and looking at it for a bit, then driving into town, have breakfast in a coffee shop waiting for the shops to open.
Do it!
FangsForTheMemory · 25/02/2022 21:05

@squashyhat

Disappear. Leave home, family, responsibilities and go off grid.
I can really see the attraction of this.

I think it's Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler, where the main character just walks away from her family on the beach one day, finds somewhere to live for a while plus a simple job, and then when she's ready just drifts back to her family. Sounded very appealing when I read it some years ago.

It's Ladder of Years.
3totheright4totheleft · 25/02/2022 21:44

Yes! Had a feeling I'd got the wrong one.

DrSbaitso · 25/02/2022 21:47

That's a great one. Delia has been considered the baby her whole life, she's now in her 40s and everyone still thinks she's a bit of a ninny, even her kids. One day on the beach she gets pissed off, walks off and just keeps walking.

My mother loved that one. She said she never had a gap year, not being the generation/social demographic to have done one, and she felt it was Delia's gap year.

FindingMeno · 25/02/2022 21:49

Live in a tiny house, read, write and wild swim.

Fusillage · 25/02/2022 21:52

So many! I’d like to hike the length of NZ, own a bookshop, buy a camper, live somewhere remote. The sheer energy mundanity requires is exhausting.

IWannaGoToTheSpa · 25/02/2022 22:19

Ahhh reading these have absolutely made my day!

As far as I can see, these secret fantasies are split into three categories:

  1. Up and leave my life and responsibilities for a defined amount of time or forever.
  2. Get sweet revenge on someone or say what I’ve always wanted to say to xy or z.
  3. Realise my creative dream I never felt possible.

Lots of people said that mine was achievable and other ones like mine. Totally achievable. I could do it. And calling in sick is way better than taking a day annual leave (as someone’s friend did in my exact scenario). Don’t know why I haven’t done it. Maybe I thought it would be a waste of time to commute in actual reality. There’s just so many big hotels near my work and some days I’m so tired (got small DC) I just wanna sleep when I’m at work and day dream about those amazing hotel beds so close yet so far!

I’ve not done it, however… I have booked a short notice annual leave day this Monday and booked myself a spa day and I did tell my husband (felt like I’d be lying not telling him when it came to it and he’d actually just be well pleased for me so weird not to tell him) but I’m not telling anyone else so it still feels like a secret day, I’m so excited!!

Please keep them coming, they’re making me so happy reading them! Love the ones about saying what you frigging well want to say when you’ve been wanting to say it for so long! You’re all brill.

@PicaK

Going out of the house at 2am and walking round my local area just to see how it feels all quiet at night with the moon out.
I have done this a few times. The peace and moonlight is beautiful. I like to walk straight down the middle of the road, just because I can! I've even seen the occasional fox.

You know when you see someone crouched down or bending over in the street, perhaps tying a shoelace or picking something up? I often get the urge to kick them up the arse. Never in a million years would I actually do it but I do think about it. I blame Father Ted and Bishop Brennan.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 25/02/2022 22:33

Telling the FF at work that it drives me insane and puts my teeth on edge when she takes one of my spreadsheets and doesn't complete every column so I have to go in and fill all the gaps myself so the filters ACTUALLY FUCKING WORK!!!

I mean JFC she is meant to be an intelligent person!

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 25/02/2022 22:33

Sorry FF should say FD.

Wow- I've never done this but I really want to now.

@WomanStanleyWoman

Reply ‘Punch them in the face’ to a LOT of the ‘WWYD?’ questions in AIBU. I don’t because it’s ‘not in the spirit’, but you’d be surprised how often I’m thinking it Grin
I thought that was just me!
GlitteryGreen · 25/02/2022 22:42

Moving into a remote house in the Yorkshire countryside.

I love the scenery and the idea of it, having space and quiet, but the reality is my family and friends are all down south and I have grown up living on the outskirts of London so in reality I'd probably struggle to cope somewhere remote and lonely.

Klouds · 25/02/2022 22:47

Mine are totally achievable, but I just can’t do them for a variety of reasons.

  1. Take a step back and get an easier job, with less stress and work, but less money. Technically I could do that, but I’m in a situation of supporting kids through college and afterwards, they’ve made some stupid choices career wise (ignored my advice!), and finally now realise the importance of having a stable decent job and salary. I can support, so will do so.
  1. I’ve a secret crush on BIL. He’s lovely, taken totally fore granted, by my lazy self centred sister. I’d love to do it, I know it’s achievable:) but will remain a fantasy.
nopuppiesallowed · 25/02/2022 22:53

I'd like to steal a digger or earth mover and 'race' down the motorway pursued by a police car.

toconclude · 25/02/2022 22:53

@felulageller

If I want to do something I just do it.

I've done quite a few of the above but it'd be to outing to disclose.

Life's too short to settle for wishing rather than doing.

Yeah, well sometimes bank accounts are too lowBiscuit

Throw out all the piles and piles of paper that DH is keeping from his business which he retired from 5 years ago and some of which is over 20 years old

probablywouldnt · 25/02/2022 23:07

Shag my BIL

LaurieFairyCake · 25/02/2022 23:15

Killing fucking Putin, the mad unsavoury cunt that he is

Ladywinesalot · 25/02/2022 23:17

Thought you meant a sexual fantasy and was going to say a threesome!!

Heartofglass12345 · 26/02/2022 00:37

Similar to yours but saying I'm going out with friends/ family for the night but actually staying in a hotel eating chocolate and watching tv all night lol

Heartofglass12345 · 26/02/2022 00:40

I also fantasise about sleeping with a woman. I am bisexual but was in a LTR with a man then met my now husband not long after we broke up. I wish I'd done it in between as I wouldn't do it now as I'm married lol

ClariceQuiff · 26/02/2022 00:45

Selling most of what I own and going to live off grid in a cottage with no electricity, gas and so forth, and minimal contact with other human beings. Use money from selling possessions to pay for food and whatever bills the government would still manage to sting me for, so I didn't have to work.
