Is the UK in danger from Russia?

Keep receiving conflicting information. I am sick to my stomach and quite simply hate the unknown. So a simple question - is it likely that the UK will be in danger from Russia? And if so what does that look like? Cyber attacks, bombs being dropped?

@Tealightsandd you're not usually hard of reading. OP is clearly talking about RUSSIA. Not COVID. Ok?

SagittariusDwarf · 24/02/2022 22:33

@Tealightsandd

OP asked about danger to the UK.

Covid and Long Covid is a major danger to the UK.

She asked about danger to the U.K. from Russia. Read the thread title again, slowly if necessary Confused. And then bore off and bang on about covid elsewhere.

I don't think Russia will be invading our shores any day soon or dropping a nuclear weapon on anyone.

Would Russia however launch a cyber attack, crippling systems like banking, transport and communications possibly so if threatened.

But seen as nobody is going to actually help the Ukraine past sending some more weapons to them, probably not.

I really do feel for the people of Ukraine, they are being left to be fed to the dogs. Those poor people living in fear and those trying to flee, it's unthinkable.

Tealightsandd · 24/02/2022 22:36

Generally most people who are concerned about danger are concerned about danger full stop. Regardless of what causes it.

ChristmasCurry · 24/02/2022 22:36

If Russia nuked the UK, our six nuclear subs would destroy every major city they had.

If not Russia, there's Long Covid. Despite rumours to the contrary that threat has not gone away.

Jesus Christ give it a rest won't you

youhadmeatjello · 24/02/2022 22:37

When he says if other countries get involved do you think he means in terms of sending troops? Or sanctions? I was trying to get my head around it earlier, because to me sanctions are still trying to stop him. So does that mean we’ve already gone against that threat and now just have to wait and see what he will do?
Or is it more of a case of if we physically get involved?

TheGoogleMum · 24/02/2022 22:37

I'm no expert but I think we'll be OK so long as we don't get too involved. It is a bit scary, and if he then invades a NATO country then things might be different as surely we would have to get involved then

I took it as "if someone physically attempted to interfere with their military action"

He was expecting financial sanctions, and isn't phased by them.

Mumofsend · 24/02/2022 22:39

I think it will be a cyber attack unlike anything we've ever seen before. I've withdrawn a few hundred ££s so if we lose banking I have some cash. A massive cyber attack could cause absolute anarchy what with our tendency to panic buy.

The OP was specific to the danger from Russia.

You do no favours for arguing that we need to take long covid seriously by trying to shoehorn it into thread which is not about covid.

And I am concerned about long covid!

The question about Russia is important. I wonder what the implications are for our country when we have a ruling party which has taken so much money from Russia, it has a Prime Minister who is a lying toad of a man who probably thinks this will get him off the hook in terms of his own illegal and questionable behaviour during covid lockdown.

Baystard · 24/02/2022 22:41

I think it depends on how effective the sanctions are, they sound significant but will they do more than irritate him a bit?

@GiveMeNovocain

I had long glandular fever. It was nothing like being in a war zone or the threat of nuclear war ffs
My long covid was actually curtailed by anxiety. I was spiking adrenaline so severely with my fight or flight response that the fatigue episodes completely disappeared for six weeks.

So maybe Russia is attempting a cure.

OMG what planet are you on? She asked very clearly if the UK was in danger FROM RUSSIA!!
DingleyDel · 24/02/2022 22:48

Russia have always been a danger. They are a law unto themselves. They murdered people and potentially poisoned hundreds on British soil not long ago. And that’s one of the minor misdemeanours. U.K. has been incredibly foolish but of course London wanted their filthy money.

Tealightsandd · 24/02/2022 22:48

But of course rationality isn't always in abundance.

I get the memo and will fuck off. We Are Not Allowed To Mention The Danger...Unless it's one particular singled out potential danger. The one that's killing and disabling many many innocent people and causing much terror and suffering? Ssssh about that.

Oh, and nothing is relevant, related, or interlinked. At all. Everything happens in a vacuum. A bubble of different dangers.

Innocent lives matter. Except when they don't.

Putin and his pals gave us Brexit and Boris, so I would say the UK is very much in danger.
Campervangirl · 24/02/2022 22:49

We're not in any danger, it's a little man flexing his muscles (ok, he's got the might of the Russian military behind him).
It's one thing invading Ukraine but it's a completely different ball game taking on America and Britain.
No-one is nuking anyone.
Putin can make all the threats he wants (must admit the threat was quite scary) but no one is going into a nuclear war or World War 3 over Ukraine.
NATO is not going to let Putin get away with causing ww3.

JPI7 · 24/02/2022 22:50

I read today that Russian gas is still flowing through the Ukraine and on to Europe! This will be done and dusted soon one way or another. Ukraine’s leader will be gone and a Putin puppet will be put in place. Everyone will have forgotten about it in a year. It’s only non stop media that makes it such a big deal. Russia have form for this and have done it before.
They get a slapped wrist and then a few months later all is well again and their billionaires become richer. Most of them are Putins mates.

Phobiaphobic · 24/02/2022 22:52

@Valhalla17

If Boris keeps making threats then it's highly likely we will be nuked.
Don't be silly.
SagittariusDwarf · 24/02/2022 22:52

"I get the memo and will fuck off."

Thank god for that.
