Is the UK in danger from Russia?

Keep receiving conflicting information. I am sick to my stomach and quite simply hate the unknown. So a simple question - is it likely that the UK will be in danger from Russia? And if so what does that look like? Cyber attacks, bombs being dropped?

@BattenbergdowntheHatches

My fear is that Putin takes Ukraine, is emboldened and cracks on into a NATO country triggering all out war. Russian military plans involve using tactical nukes in battle. We all know where that can escalate.

If that happens, we’re all toast.

This!

Unfortunately, I think Putin wants to go down in history as the most infamous leader and is on a suicide mission to get there.

SmallPrawnEnergy · 25/02/2022 00:40

If people stoped engaging with the covidiot tealights then they’ll stop responding. They’re just looking to provoke a reaction.

What a sad little life.

Tealightsandd · 25/02/2022 00:44

Covidiot is generally used to describe those in denial about the danger Small.
But I shall take your advice about not engaging. You can insult away. I'm off to bed.

Thoosa · 25/02/2022 00:45

Putin was trying to sound incredibly sinister but he doesn’t want to launch nuclear war. In terms of the UK, I’d be more worried about cyber attacks.

Chocolattay · 25/02/2022 00:45

Tealights has successfully derailed several Ukraine threads. I’ve found myself taken in immediately by the urge to reply to their nonsense.

Makes you wonder who is really behind the account tbh, if you catch my drift. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist but we already know these shills/bots are rife on other social media. Thinking it’d occur on MN is probably a stretch though.

Chocolattay · 25/02/2022 00:46

Always repeats ‘I’m off to bed’ yet never goes.

They are a genius at derailing.

Somosagirl · 25/02/2022 00:46

My heart goes out to Ukraine but Borris needs to keep his big mouth shut! He hardly bat his eyelids when Russia invaded Syria and same goes to Israel's war crimes on Palestine for over 50 years.

He just wants the heat off him for the parties and come out looking like a war hero...thinks he's Churchill.

Britain has enough blood on its hands...no to War anywhere!

We need to pray for the Ukranians and open up our boarders to them as refugees fleeing a war. But lets not meddle like we did with Iraq...not opening another can of worms!

RunningFromInsanity · 25/02/2022 00:47

No one is dropping regular bombs on the U.K.
It won’t happen. For one, they would be shot down by our state of the art anti-missile technology. They wouldn’t reach out airspace.
It will not be like you see in Iraq and currently Ukraine.

IF, and this is a crazy worst case tin foil hat conspiracy, Russia did decide to ‘bomb’ the U.K., it would be a nuclear bomb and you wouldn’t know it was happening/happened.

The U.K. or it’s allies would retaliate and pretty much ensure instant death for most of the planet.

We may not seem like the most organised country at the moment (ahem Boris) but we have one of the best military forces on the planet. The most advanced technology. The strongest allies.
No one is attacking the U.K. or her territories. Not even Putin would dare.

Tealightsandd · 25/02/2022 00:48

And no, I don't want to 'provoke a reaction'.
Some very angry and hostile peeps on here. Ironically for a thread about conflict and war.

No. We have to speak up now. Crimea annexation went unpunished and it’s emboldened him.

There is a world of difference between the invasion of Iraq in 2003 and the Gulf War in 1991 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I get the memo and will fuck off.

Yet here you still are, disrupting a completely different discussion. Maybe you couldn’t find where you needed to be, here’s a hint…

To be fair to tealights posters continued to quote her after she said she was off so fair enough if she feels she wants to respond to them.
I didn't agree with her repeated irrelevant 'whataboutery' but once she'd left, why keep poking at her?

Cyberpunk2077 · 25/02/2022 00:54

Question re nukes :- As Russia has a lot of nuke power would that take down the whole of the uk like everyone and everything dies immediately or would they be like a post apocalyptic country that some people would be living through? Is there anywhere I can look this up? Im not sleeping tonight anyway.

Somosagirl · 25/02/2022 00:54

@GiveMeNovocain

I had long glandular fever. It was nothing like being in a war zone or the threat of nuclear war ffs
This response to tealights made me Grin lol
Livelovebehappy · 25/02/2022 00:55

Can’t someone assassinate him? Surely there’s some way that we could get someone in Russia, with military background, none sympathetic to Putin, to take him out? There’d be a few takers I would assume. I really believe the rumours suggesting he is ill, which makes him more dangerous, as he has nothing to lose. I think the only solution is to kill him.

Thoosa · 25/02/2022 00:57

Here’s hoping @Livelovebehappy

Chocolattay · 25/02/2022 00:57

I think we could get rid of him if we wanted to. But god knows the aftermath

Pyewhacket · 25/02/2022 00:59

@Valhalla17

If Boris keeps making threats then it's highly likely we will be nuked.
You have a problem with your brain. .
Chocolattay · 25/02/2022 01:00

I honestly think it is a suicide mission though. Like them cases of suicidal pilots who take passenger planes with them just because.

If Putin is ill or feeling his age he may have decided he’s not bothered about risk, and that he may as well play his little game of seeing if he can get the USSR back together.

It’ll be Poland (yes not USSR but Eastern Bloc) next.

@Tealightsandd - your concerns re long Covid are valid. And I think it’s great for anyone to try to bring awareness to the difficulties faced by those suffering. And it will likely be an issue for a while here and elsewhere in the world. Along with numerous other “hidden” conditions.

BUT - this thread was definitely not the right place to raise them. And your doubling down on the reaction makes it worse.

You have valid concerns re that subject and, again, it is great that you are wanting to raise them. But you’ve now taken backward steps by doing so on this thread.

Push on, via the right channels, to raise awareness. Doing it on here, on the wrong threads, is going to make people ignore rather than listen.

Somosagirl · 25/02/2022 01:05

War is war and today is day one of this conflict. Can you really make such comparisons about types of war just yet?

Innocent lives are lost in all wars.

I'm not saying we turn a blind eye but we support Ukraine by allowing political refugees into the UK and send aid. But making threats to this heavily armed war hungry psycho is not the way.

Thoosa · 25/02/2022 01:05

There’s a grimly fascinating website called “Nukemap” that models which weapons exist and what effects they could have. I just tried to visit it to get the link but it seems to be down ATM. Probably a lot of people awake and pondering it like you.
