AIBU to not get the love for Ant and Dec?

Are they REALLY as good as their yearly awards would have us believe? I really don't like Ant, and I don't watch them, to be honest. But are they that good or is it just that the TV Quick gang vote for them year after year?

@Bunty55

I just don't get the love for the whole ITV family. Those two and then the This Morning presenters and Lorraine and The Loose Women... did I leave anyone out?

I switch off if any of them appear on screen.

I will never understand how LK is still on the TV. Her weird fawning show tacked onto the end of GMB every morning. She then got to host GMB (or whatever it was back then) with Aled Jones for a bit. That didn't work out so she went back to her old slot and Aled got dumped. She always has the school holidays off even though her DD must be nearing 30. Grin

@StrictlyAFemaleFemale

Love their cameo in Love Actually.
This is the only thing I've enjoyed them in. "Ant or Dec" about sums it up for me!
Suzyinthesummertime · 25/02/2022 01:26

Pair of arrogant unfunny twats
They need to go, along with Phil and Holly, Lorraine, Dr hillary, most of the itv lot really..they're all unwatchable

Thoosa · 25/02/2022 01:32

I’ve never seen them in anything other than when they had that single out and the odd clip of their jungle shenanigans. Can’t say those scraps appealed. ITV gets worse and worse. It’s a river of populist bulge.

Aren’t those TV awards they win the weird “people’s choice” ones associated with some trashy magazine? Holly oaks m, Corrie and other nonsense regularly win them too. They reward mediocrity AFAICS.

Borland · 25/02/2022 08:49

They are just like a pair of village idiots loved by other people who are not particularly good at thinking themselves.

TragicMuse · 25/02/2022 09:08

Obviously I know who they are as a presenting duo, but I've never seen a whole programme of theirs, it's not my kind of tv.

I don't even know which one is which!

lockdownhasbrokenme · 25/02/2022 09:10

Ant is the one who always stands on the left.

MorningStarling · 25/02/2022 09:24

A lot of it is sympathy from when PJ got blinded, people who grew up seeing that have a respect for him that he's got his life turned around.

Yes with the massive fod!
LondonWolf · 25/02/2022 09:32

"Warm, cheeky persona"

That descriptor genuinely make me feel a bit 🤢

Lunificent · 25/02/2022 09:40

For my taste they’re slaves to the autocue and competent at presenting. They get the job done but provide no interest.

TheWelshposter · 25/02/2022 09:48

I have never got the appeal of Ant and Dec. Likewise with Holly and Phil, Loose Women presenters, most of ITV in general.

billy1966 · 25/02/2022 09:50

@ThatsNotMyGolem

They're utter morons. Their popularity makes me despair for the general intelligence of the British public.

It probably says more about those who vote, and/or the alternatives. The drunk driver and his mate and their tv shows are not the worst to win awards. Mrs Browns Boys has won some voted for by audiences.

lapasion · 25/02/2022 10:14

My grandma likes them. She also enjoys Mrs Browns Boys and a lot of stuff that apparently makes her ‘thick’ and ‘braindead’ according to the posters on this thread. I don’t think she’s either of those things. She just thinks they’re fun and cheeky. They’re very old school Saturday night telly, which is shit, but some people still enjoy. Luckily, we’re no longer in the era where you either had to head to Blockbuster or suffer through Noel’s House Party.

billy1966 · 25/02/2022 10:14

Mrs Browns boys being utter drivel too.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 25/02/2022 10:18

@coodawoodashooda

I don't understand why they don't move over and let someone else have a turn?
It’s their job Confused. Would you ‘move over & let someone else have a turn’ in your career?

Do you think the same of all presenters / actors etc who are above a certain age or longevity? Helen Mirren? Judi Dench? George Cloony? David Attenborough?

I was going mention Mrs Brown’s Boys. I can see how Ant and Dec lovers would also like this.
Everydaydayisaschoolday · 25/02/2022 10:22

I really enjoy Saturday Night Takeaway and I'm a Celeb but I tend to fast forward the bits when it's just them and their 'hilarious' banter.

'Eternal Love' was my first CD aged about 11! Grin

I just don't watch ITV. I can't stand most of it, so I choose to watch more interesting, independent content creators on YouTube for the bulk of my TV viewing.

JudgeRindersMinder · 25/02/2022 10:32

Well past their sell by date, along with Schofield. They’re so unfunny

BasiliskStare · 25/02/2022 13:03

To be fair about ITV ( & I did come from a family where ITV was "frowned upon" so e.g. Blue Peter v Magpie ( you can tell how old I am ) - I think ITV has done very good dramas - so e.g. Foyle's War , poirot etc. But that is not the point re Ant and Dec

I do think sometimes Tv producers think - if it isn't broken don't fix it. Hence in my opinion - Tess Daly and Greg Wallace - I watch things with them presenting despite them not because of them . But if the programmes are popular enough they are part of the thing. 0 if I never saw Gregg Wallace on the TV again it would be too soon. I am sure he is a nice chap - but he never really seems to add anything. ( One opinion )

balalake · 25/02/2022 13:06

Ant and Dec's shows are not to my taste, however I do not pay a penny towards them as they are on ITV.

Mrs Brown's Boys is foul mouthed so-called comedy and I object to my licence fee supporting it. I draw a distinction between not to my taste and something that is rubbish or worse.
