AIBU to not get the love for Ant and Dec?

Are they REALLY as good as their yearly awards would have us believe? I really don't like Ant, and I don't watch them, to be honest. But are they that good or is it just that the TV Quick gang vote for them year after year?

I can't stand them, but then I'm definitely not a person that Saturday Night TV is aimed at - I'd rather be bleaching my anus than watching that kind of crap

HopefulProcrastinator · 24/02/2022 20:54

YANBU someone should pop them and the smug Scofieldor however you spell it in a boat together and force them to live out their days somewhere with zero communication with the rest of the world. If we could smuggle Putin and Boris to live there too I think that would be ideal.

TheVolturi · 24/02/2022 20:55

A few years back I loved them. I grew up with them, remember them as Pj and Duncan! But now, yeah they're quite annoying!

I watch Dancing on Ice, but I am not a fan of Holly and Phil, though clearly have to endure them if I want to watch the show. Steven Mulhearn was a breath of fresh air when he covered for Phil. It's so tiresome to see the same people over and over again. Ant, Dec, Holly, Phil, and worst of all Amanda Holden. Danny Dyer is another one.

They put me in a bad mood - I can just about bear them on 'I'm a Celeb ....' but even then the script is so samey

MorganKitten · 24/02/2022 21:02

You can change the channel when they are on…

cavalierkingc · 24/02/2022 21:02

I love them, have for years but each to their own.

As for jedward yes they are still kicking about on tik tok!

StiggyZardust · 24/02/2022 21:15

They are odious individuals. I especially hate the adverts they do.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 24/02/2022 21:18

I like them. I've followed their whole career (I used to be an extra in Byker grove too back in the day) and will continue to do so.

I'm not a die hard fan though. I don't have to catch every episode of whatever they do, but I'll happily tune in if I'm at home and I remember.

TowandaForever · 24/02/2022 21:19

@Snoozer11

I now find them inoffensive at best and cringeworthy at worst, but generally I think they're better than most of the talent ITV has at hand - Willoughby, Mulhern, Schofield, Ben Shepherd etc.

They used to be really good in their heyday, but that was 20 years ago and they just haven't evolved in any way. It's just been the 20th anniversary of Will Young winning Pop Idol which they presented, and SNT did start too long after that.

They're at their best now when they're low energy and not doing some scripted shit for the camera. And SNT is fucking woeful.

Dec, however, is known to be a very pleasant man and is thoroughly decent. Which is more than can be said of the other presenters.

I also think it's worth remembering that Ant's car crash happened because he was over the limit from the night before. He wasn't swigging vodka from behind the wheel.

How can you know dec is pleasant and decent?!
WetLookKnitwear · 24/02/2022 21:19

YANBU i assume they have the right connections.

tearinghairout · 24/02/2022 21:25

No. I find them likeable enough and occasionally quite witty but most of their stuff I find incredibly cringy and old hat, and they are really not my thing.

BritishDesiGirl · 24/02/2022 21:36

Makes no difference He had enough alcohol in his system to cause that crash. He shouldn't have been driving. You don't need to be swigging vodka behind the wheel to be over the limit.

I love them.

HeadNorth · 24/02/2022 21:53

I assume they appeal to the same sort of people who used to watch Noel’s house party and thought Mr Blobby was the height of hilarity. The appeal is incomprehensible to me.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 24/02/2022 21:58

Love their cameo in Love Actually.

Read two posts up. I do. That's not the point of this thread.

They are like an old 70's act but less funnier: Dec is nice but I can't bear Ant.

Same with Holly & Phil. He grates on me and she's starting too.

Cravingsweets · 24/02/2022 23:29

I've seen various "if you had to do one, which one would you do?" threads over the years with most people preferring to shag Dec. I know sexual attraction is entirely subjective, but I've always found them weirdly asexual and the thought of having sex with either makes my skin crawl. Even back when I liked them as a comedy duo. Especially Dec who just seems weirdly... smooth. Never a trace of stubble or 5 o'clock shadow. Like some kind of 50-year-old man-boy 🤣

WeasilyPleased · 25/02/2022 00:19

They make what they do look incredibly simple. Live television for an hour with multiple segments like SNT isn't so I strongly disagree that they are talentless. They would not have survived for so long if this were true.
You don't have to like them but it's factually wrong to suggest they haven't learned their craft and executed it well.

Sparklingbrook · 25/02/2022 00:23

I agree @WeasilyPleased. They are good presenters. I always feel that if something went wrong on their live shows they'd handle it without us all having to watch through our fingers.
Unpopular opinion but I feel the same about Phillip Schofield, he's got it all under control. And you can't say that about a lot of presenters.

Holothane · 25/02/2022 00:32

Never liked them and never will.

Bunty55 · 25/02/2022 00:35

I just don't get the love for the whole ITV family. Those two and then the This Morning presenters and Lorraine and The Loose Women... did I leave anyone out?

I switch off if any of them appear on screen.

UndertheCedartree · 25/02/2022 00:37

I don't find them entertaining. But I really don't like Ant after the drink driving episode. I also didn't feel he was particularly sensitive to his ex wife's feelings when he went of with her friend.
