I will try and explain as clear as I can

To get into my car park for work you have to turn right off a main road and straight into the opening for the car park. There is a path/cycle Lane either side of the opening.

For the second time this morning, the same cyclist has not stopped to see if the coast is clear to cycle across the turning, meaning I have had to slam my brakes on/he’s swerved to miss me. This means I’ve had to stop dead in the middle of the other side of the road to ensure I don’t hit him.

Am I right in thinking cars have the right of way turning in and cyclists should wait on the path until it’s clear?

Tempted not to bloody stop next time. Grrrrr

Do you not find being called a knob funny? Where's your sense of humour gone?

What’s making me laugh is how agitated people are getting over a complete stranger! Please throw all the insults my way if it makes you all feel better, I have thick skin so come on, let’s get inventive!

@Lindaloo08 If you were turning in and I was walking, I'd stop to let you finish your turn,
But a driver shouldn't have started the turn while there was a person walking across where they were turning.

wonderwoman26 · 23/02/2022 14:18

It’s just funny what’s right and wrong in this world. I’m the absolute devil because I wasn’t up to date with the Highway Code and have my own opinion on cyclists, but others who troll strangers online have the moral high ground.

Maybe my moral compass if off balance too? Another question for you all to answer for me…

If you’d have read the post Smiles - the cyclist was not already on the road when I was turning. Nowhere near infact. Maybe I need to turn quicker

Well you must know he's coming because you must be driving passed him before you get to the junction. You're both going the same way.

rattlehum · 23/02/2022 14:20

"On the contrary, it just so happens that I am the only one who knows this junction"

= I am right about the cyclist being in the wrong and the reason people don't see that is because they can't see the junction

"have had to describe it as and when I’ve been able to."

= I am right to keep trying to persuade everyone on here that I am right about the cyclist being wrong

"even now it appears I’m not the only one confused but what appears to be an unsafe ruling in this particular junction."

= I am right to be confused because the junction is confusing and one person agreeing with me on here proved that I am right about the cyclist being in the wrong

"BUT of course mumsnetters are always correct so please feel vindicated in that you must know better than me despite not knowing me and how I was driving, the junction, the layout or any actual detail.
I forgot I wasn’t allowed to offer a differing opinion to the majority"

= none of you truly understand the situation and this explains why you think I'm in the wrong, when in actual fact I am in the right

Also = I should be allowed to offer my opinion that differs from the majority but you are not allowed to offer your opinion that differs from mine

MsMeNz · 23/02/2022 14:20

you are in the wrong, sorry

PerseverancePays · 23/02/2022 14:47

The cyclist is just part of oncoming traffic that you need to wait for before you turn. The new rules don't change that.

EnjoyingTheSilence · 23/02/2022 15:01

The difference is people are saying they hate drivers like you, not drivers, not you, just drivers like you.

People have also agreed that there are bad cyclists, but you can’t say all cyclists are bad.

Can you really not see the difference?

You’re the one who said you hated cyclists and joked about knocking them off next time. As has been pointed out, it’s not funny.

It’s not about lacking a sense of humour, different types of humour or cancel culture. This type of language is not ok. The trouble is there are people out there who do behave that way and do think it’s funny, you want to be lumped in with them?

dizzydizzydizzy · 23/02/2022 21:23

I actually find it really scary when people
Say they hate cyclists. It's becoming more and more socially acceptable to say this and unfortunately some people put this hatred into action. My friend's DH was deliberately pushed off his bike by a passenger leaning out of a window. He was lucky to escape with only a broken collar bone. One of my neighbours, thinks it's a great joke to threaten cyclists by deliberately swerving towards them from the other side of the road and narrowly miss them.

Was he crossing a lowered pavement? Or is it a clear road into the car park?
