Who’s in the right?!

I will try and explain as clear as I can

To get into my car park for work you have to turn right off a main road and straight into the opening for the car park. There is a path/cycle Lane either side of the opening.

For the second time this morning, the same cyclist has not stopped to see if the coast is clear to cycle across the turning, meaning I have had to slam my brakes on/he’s swerved to miss me. This means I’ve had to stop dead in the middle of the other side of the road to ensure I don’t hit him.

Am I right in thinking cars have the right of way turning in and cyclists should wait on the path until it’s clear?

Tempted not to bloody stop next time. Grrrrr

OP is aware that she is in the wrong, as far as the Highway Code is concerned so posters should probably lay off her now.

I agree with those that think the new rules do little to protect pedestrians and cyclists. They may actually put people in more danger by offering a false sense of security. When someone is hit by a car they stepped or cycled in front of because they had 'right of way' it won't matter that the driver was in the wrong when they're lying in a hospital bed, or worse, a morgue.

AffIt · 23/02/2022 13:40

But you're turning right - even given the revisions to the Highway Code, you do not and never have had right of way.

Why is this so hard for you to understand?

rattlehum · 23/02/2022 13:41

OP: am I in the right here?
Everyone: no
OP: but I hate cyclists and I am still in the right surely
Everyone: you can't say you hate cyclists and you are not in the right. You are a bad driver
OP: lol I don't care what you think xxx
Everyone: you said you wanted to run over a cyclist. You are a bad driver and your attitude stinks
OP: I don't care plus I went out at lunch time and actually I'm in the right so
Everyone: sigh
OP: there is a wall so I am still in the right
Everyone: k
OP: I'm still right
Everyone: Confused
OP: I don't care what you all think

What's the point of the triangle on the cycle path then?
Nickwinkle · 23/02/2022 13:43

@wonderwoman26

This is my best diagram lol!
Yes, cyclist has right of way.

Assume the cyclist is a car - you wouldn't just cut across them, would you?

I'd be effing and blinding at you if I was the cyclist Grin

Momicrone · 23/02/2022 13:44

Imagine the cyclist is a little toddler who's escaped it's mum, just don't drive into it

7eleven · 23/02/2022 13:45

Cyclists has right of way in this situation, regardless of recent changes.

Confused where I’ve ever said I was in the right?

The purpose of my post was to find out who’s right of way it was, found that out 76 posts ago and not argued it - just updated on the situation as to why I’m confused about it.

Believe it or not, not everyone has an ego the size Russia so I am capable of saying I’m wrong - although strangely everyone seems to have missed them parts of my post because it doesn’t fit to their story. How weird

Momicrone · 23/02/2022 13:50

Is cycling to work an option?

wonderwoman26 · 23/02/2022 13:51

As said above though - there is a stop/give way triangle on the cycle path so using the car amplify doesn’t work because if it was a car - it should of stopped.
It appears this rule doesn’t apply to cyclists who have the right of way no matter what the circumstances

OP posts:

Is cycling to work an option?
God no! Have you seen the amount of crazy, dangerous murders drivers out there that don’t know the Highway Code back to front?!
OP posts:
rattlehum · 23/02/2022 13:55

Because you've admitted you were wrong and then stated as many reasons as you can think of to justify why you were wrong.
It's like the classic "I'm sorry, but"

On the contrary, it just so happens that I am the only one who knows this junction, and have had to describe it as and when I’ve been able to. And even now it appears I’m not the only one confused but what appears to be an unsafe ruling in this particular junction.

BUT of course mumsnetters are always correct so please feel vindicated in that you must know better than me despite not knowing me and how I was driving, the junction, the layout or any actual detail.
I forgot I wasn’t allowed to offer a differing opinion to the majority

OP posts:
MattHancocksPrivateNurse · 23/02/2022 14:03

You are completely and utterly in the wrong, and sound like a bit of a knob.

wonderwoman26 · 23/02/2022 14:06

It is funny isn’t it,
I say I hate cyclists as one comment.
And because of that I am moronic, a murderer, a dangerous driver, vile, arrogant.

Yet I am the Knob?!

So much easier to jump on the bandwagon isn’t it, much easier than pulling other peoples overreactions up

OP posts:
Momicrone · 23/02/2022 14:06

You have admitted you were wrong, is that about hating cyclists too?

Momicrone · 23/02/2022 14:07

Hate is a very strong word that you used first!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 23/02/2022 14:07

I think the reason you e for so much grief is your attitude on here.

I’ve seen other posts where someone has asked a question, been told they were wrong and the op has accepted it and learnt from it, without the attitude and shouts of it was a joke. Try being driven at as a cyclist and tell us if it’s still funny. Try being a driver who knocks someone off their bike and tell us if it’s still funny.

wonderwoman26 · 23/02/2022 14:09

Good grief. The lack of humour on the post is utterly astonishing.

Clearly - I’m not going to drive into cyclists, hence stopping twice to not his this particular man.
Can’t believe I’d even have to explain that but we are in cancel culture so should of expected it

OP posts:
Tdp123 · 23/02/2022 14:10

This is a large part of the reason why I choose to cycle on the road rather than on a segregated cycle path. If the cyclist had been in the road then even the OP, who by their own admission does not know the Highway Code, would not be asking this question.

wonderwoman26 · 23/02/2022 14:10

@Momicrone

You have admitted you were wrong, is that about hating cyclists too?
No - i am allowed an opinion on cyclists. And I shall not be bullied by the MN clan that I should conform and like cyclists.

There’s been many people who say they hate drivers - yet those haven’t been pulled up on. Funny

OP posts:
MattHancocksPrivateNurse · 23/02/2022 14:10

Honestly OP you are being a knob though.
I think people who 'hate cyclists' usually have a complex where seeing a cyclist makes them feel bad that they are not as fit/healthy and are contributing to climate change by driving. I both cycle and drive when needed but much prefer going out on my bike. Some drivers are so rude and dangerous (I always take a photo of them on my phone if they are very dangerous- I don't actually report them but I like to freak them out).

wonderwoman26 · 23/02/2022 14:12

sorry but what?! 😂
Just to let you know from the non cyclists, we do not feel bad for not being as ‘fit/healthy’ as cyclists.

But I have a complex?! Laughable

sillysmiles · 23/02/2022 14:13

@wonderwoman26

Your all giving me a right chuckle this morning. Thank you all for informing me of my evil, murderous ways. Forgot how serious mumsnet is on everything. God forbid a sense of humour was to creep into your lives somewhere
Try cycling. It's really not that funny when a) cars don't see you and b) when they nearly knock you down they don't acknowledge they are in the wrong.

You are crossing lines of traffic. You are in the wrong here. And even if you weren't, would it really kill you to give the cyclist some space?

wonderwoman26 · 23/02/2022 14:13

Cyclists can also be very rude and dangerous - but this seems to get overlooked as the passionate cyclists never do no wrong
