Just that. "Freedom" is no such thing for care home residents. Imprisoned and deprived of family and now, if we want to visit, we must shell out £20 for a test.

Is it unreasonable to call this government absolute sick psychopaths?

*I imagine you are already shelling out thousand a week in care home fees. In which case a few ££ on a test won't make much difference.

Alternatively her care is all Government funded and all you have to contribute is a small amount for a test*

Bollocks.

The fees are extortionate as it is so the homes should provide the tests as part of the residents care to ensure they can see their family and friends. It's diabolical to put a chargeable requirement in place to facilitate a visit.

My grandmothers house was sold to go towards paying for her care. Her life savings and money from her house sale are quickly dwindling down with it costing over £3000 per month.
That doesn't mean "it won't make much difference" to me. Its her money paying for it. I still can't afford to be forking out money for tests for me and my children to visit her every few days it's absolutely fucking shameful after the level of isolation these residents have endured.

I don't know exact costs but an estimate from numbers thrown around in this thread tells me that for me and my two children to visit her it would cost around £20 for a pack of four tests. Or £6 each for packs of one individual test.
So say we want to see her 2-3 times a week (as we did before covid) it could cost in the region of £60 in testing.
That's around £240 a month.
That's just unacceptable and not a 'small amount'.

And no we shouldn't limit her visits, only have one visitor or just use FaceTime instead. This is a real person with feelings and deserves to have her family visit whenever they want to as you know, this is her home not a prison.

Care homes are still required to test their staff.
2 weekly lateral flows and a weekly per. All supplied by the government.
When they order their supply of test there is an option for number of staff and an option for number of non staff I.e visitors.

The home should be able to give you tests. They may have issues with facilitating the taking of said tests but they will be able to supply them.
