Repulsive trendy food

TheUnexpectedPickle · 21/02/2022 21:25

Inspired by the dried fruit hate thread...

Is it only me that thinks most trendy/"healthy" food is overrated at best, downright nasty at worst?

Cauliflower rice does not have the taste or texture of rice. It's just soggy Cauliflower. Reheated it smells and tastes of fart.

Courgetti is wet and dilutes the sauce with its green sadwater.

Pomegranate, mangos and satsumas do not belong on salad, especially with a garlic dressing.

Advocados are only ok.

Siracha is just expensive hot sauce. There are loads that are better.

Overnight oats have the texture of wallpaper paste and are absolutely repugnant.

And nothing, NOTHING, should be served on a shovel or any other nonsense receptacle.

Thyme chocolate
Chai chocolate
Tahini chocolate
Green Tea chocolate
Wasabi chocolate
Chilli chocolate
Sea Salt chocolate
Salted caramel chocolate

All absolutely disgusting.
I was given a tasting box for Christmas and every single 'chocolate' was vile.

justasking111 · 22/02/2022 22:23

As a mum from eighties onwards we fought manufacturers over E numbers, transfats, asking them for less ingredients, artificial colours, flavouring for our children. We tried to cook as simply as possible with food that wasn't a chemistry experiment.

With vegan food we appear to be back to square one with these Frankenstein foods. I find it very depressing

gingerhills · 22/02/2022 22:24

@usethedata

Skyr. I think it's Icelandic. "Sold" to me as Greek yogurt with even higher protein. Inedible yogurt cheese.
No. It's gorgeous. I have it every morning with berries , nuts and honey. But it tastes nothing like Greek yoghurt so not surprised you were disappointed.

Also love edamame beans.

NinaDefoe · 22/02/2022 22:36

Sloppy, wet (undercooked) scrambled egg. I've been stung too many times and now ask for well done, SET, scrambled egg.

Breakfasts with any kind of salad on the side.

NinaDefoe · 22/02/2022 22:38

Burgers in a Brioche bun.

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 22/02/2022 22:39

Avocados are vile...
Cucumbers taste like mud and water...
sweet potatoes with everything is not great, they don’t even taste that nice.

Fairislefandango · 22/02/2022 22:41

I like most of the things mentioned . Except kombucha and kimchi. Oh and quinoa - which I like but it gives me horrendous stomach pains! I absolutely love avocado, and overnight oats. And courgetti are nice. You don't get sadwater if you fry them and drain them.

Bouledeneige · 22/02/2022 22:45

I hate avocado - like eating margarine. Never tried kombucha. Or kale. Just didn't warm to the idea.

Marmelace · 22/02/2022 22:47

Avocados are probably one of my favourite foods

NinaDefoe · 22/02/2022 22:47

Wood fired pizza.
They look nice but I've never tasted a nice one.
People will say they are delicious whilst secretly wishing they were at Pizza Hut.

Simonjt · 22/02/2022 22:48
@BeastOfBODMAS yes to vegan food that looks like meat. My mate had one of those burgers the other day, the ones that "bleed" and she nearly puked. She's a vegan!!! She doesn't want her food to bleed!!!
Then why on earth did she order it?

kateandme · 22/02/2022 23:00

Kafir.its rotten separated milk!

justasking111 · 22/02/2022 23:03

@kateandme

Kafir.its rotten separated milk!
Think of kefir milk as medicine hold your nose and swallow. It's good for the gut
ArcheryAnnie · 22/02/2022 23:17

If you lightly blanch Kale, then drizzle some walnut oil over it, you will find it slides off your plate and into the bin very easily.

Lincslady52 I need to go to bed but I'm laughing too hard at this. It's perfect.
@SpaghettiNotCourgetti

Or this utter wankery… “Yeah, gimme something that somebody rode with their bare feet!”
What the hell?.....

browneyes77 · 22/02/2022 23:37

Hummous

I like the flavoured ones like Sweet Chilli or Red Pepper. But the standard favour is absolutely vile.

I had to scrape my tongue when I tried it 🤮

browneyes77 · 22/02/2022 23:38

Oh and Salted Caramel Chocolate.

I like Caramel
I like Salt
But not together. It’s weird and tastes wrank.

Alcemeg · 23/02/2022 00:03

I had to fight the urge to scream and drop my plate when I lifted the lid on some cooked spaghetti blackened with squid ink. It coiled and writhed as you served it, and twitched like spiders' legs as you tried to eat it. I was battling revulsion throughout the meal.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/02/2022 00:08

@Rosehugger

What annoys me on Masterchef is how often the food is basically meat/fish and three veg. Dull. I love it when someone does a vegetarian or vegan dish.
Isn't it usually one veg done three ways?
Bignanny30 · 23/02/2022 00:13

Pasta made from everything except wheat! I’ve tried them all - pasta made from sea weed and all kinds of vegetables and they’re all yuk.

Moll2020 · 23/02/2022 00:20

Overnight oats are the worst, I’ve tried to like them but I heave trying to eat them.

Enko · 23/02/2022 00:28

walnuts drizzled " artfully" on everything imo walnuts only look ok in the bin

Thursa · 23/02/2022 01:31

Rocket. Dreadful stuff. I’ve been waiting years for it to go out of fashion.
Salted caramel chocolate. Tastes like a cruel joke.
Are brioche buns the ones that can’t hold up to a burger, so two bites in they fall apart?
I’m in the middle of binging Top Chef, so I’m adding smears and foams. Why are smears always brown? It looks like the dog dragged its arse across the plate…

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/02/2022 03:19

@NeverDropYourMooncup - OMG the craze for coating fucking CHIPS with fucking FLOUR!!!

Drives me nuts - chips used to be the one thing we could bank on being able to eat in commercial places, because, y'know, potatoes fried in oil - and then some utter FUCKERS decided that they should be made "crispy coated" with fucking FLOUR.

Cunts.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/02/2022 03:20

Yep - agree with all of these.
