Sheridan Smith & Keeley Hawes

Anyone else just fed up of seeing their faces? I don’t hate either of them & Sheridan in particular is extremely talented ..you can’t blame them either for taking all the work offered to them. But my lord they seem to be in bloody everything to the point i’m starting to avoid anything they are in.

(There must be male equivalents equally over exposed and ubiquitous but names are escaping me right now!)

OP posts:

I'm wondering if the OP has her mixed up with someone else southeastdweller. A few people have mentioned they mistake Keeley and Suranne Jones, though I wouldn't say Suranne is overexposed either.

LadyCatStark · 21/02/2022 10:31

I think in general there’s either a lack of U.K. talent for the amount of actors out there or casting people are so unimaginative that they just cast the same people in everything. It’s particularly apparent if you’re a Harry Potter and Game of Thrones fan as they must cover pretty much every big name in British acting 😂. It’s annoying when programme/ film makers just recycle the cast of their previous shows a la Jed Mercurio especially when they don’t even create a different character for them.

SlightlyJaded · 21/02/2022 10:33

Yeo a golden handshake with ITV usually...

Both decent actors and usually good, but you do get a clanger - The Teacher thing was fucking awful. I prefer Nicola Walker - she underplays so beautifully.

A minute ago you couldn't turn round for Olivia Coleman and I even got sick of seeing Idris Elba for a while....

Broadcasters find someone good, then ram them down your throat till you are sick of them. It's like killing a brilliant record by over-playing.

Hertsgirl10 · 21/02/2022 10:37

The teacher one she did, I had to turn off cos of whatever it is she was doing with her mouth, can’t even call it a pout. It was really annoying, yes she’s very talented but that was just too much for me. I mean Sheridan I have no clue who the other actress is you’re talking about.

WhatAHexIGotInto · 21/02/2022 10:41

I haven't seen Keeley Hawes in anything for ages. I love her, she's my girl crush! I say more Keeley!

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 21/02/2022 10:42

I see where your coming from OP but look at it this way ... there are more roles being written for an actress who may no longer be a lithe, glossy skinned, nubile young thing but rather a talented woman who is committing the industry crime of ageing.

I'm all for seeing more of them and hopefully many more if their female peers as they naturally age Grin

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 21/02/2022 10:43

@zen1

The last thing I saw Keeley in was It’s a Sin. She was great in that. Also liked her in Ashes to Ashes several years ago. I think she’s a great actress.
The chemistry with Gene Hunt was amazing. I don't know how she didn't...Grin
x2boys · 21/02/2022 10:46

I really like Sheridan Smith ,I thought teachers was good and No return
The last thing I saw Keeley Hawes in something was " it's a sin" she was good but she was a supporting actress .

KellyanneConway · 21/02/2022 10:47

@southeastdweller Some of the names here have limited range but you can’t say that about Benedict Cumperbatch. He’s played Stephen Hawking, a gay American cowboy, Hamlet, to name just three diverse roles of his.

Is that to do with range of skill though or range of diversity of parts written for and offered to, whom? We all know how connections, networking and biology works for every job going. Boris Johnson has been a mayor, a journalist and politician but I wouldn't say that is because of his extraordinary talent.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 21/02/2022 10:48

KH is in Midwich Cuckoos coming on Sky soon ...that looks excellent, sort of Stepford Wives meets Children if the Corn.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 21/02/2022 10:59

dh reckons sheridan smith always looks like she is smiling

the80sweregreat · 21/02/2022 11:01

SS was great in 'four lives.'

Oh excellent! I loved The Midwich Cuckoos - and Day of the Triffids and all the rest. That should be great.
BearOfEasttown · 21/02/2022 11:07

YABVVVU. They are both amazing. Just don't watch anything they're on. Simples!

GreenClock · 21/02/2022 11:29

The insider trading thing SS was in (she portrayed a cleaner) was dismal but that was due to the frothy script I think. She’s been sublime in everything else (but I haven’t seen The Teacher).

KH also excellent and consistent. Liked her in Tipping the Velvet, LoD and It’s a Sin. Three very different offerings!

Both are talented and deserve their success IMO. I don’t think either got a leg-up from famous/influential parents either but I may be wrong.

BearOfEasttown · 21/02/2022 11:35

I thought The Teacher was good. Blush

Do you think they get any choice in when some stupid commissioner decides to air the work they did?

If annoyed, watch something else and watch these series' on catch up later on....

surely johnson is to do with old boy networks and the idiocy of the general public

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/02/2022 11:39

I completely disagree-

love Keeley Hawes-think she is amazing.

Loved her in the Durrells so much and then she goes and plays a totally different, gritty modern character-

I say give me more!!!!

Me too ,I also watched the insider trading thing last week ,and thought it was good ,it's all subjective 🤣
1AngelicFruitCake · 21/02/2022 11:43

Gonnagetgoing

I find Nicola Walker and Siobhan Finneran so expressive but in a natural way, incredibly skilled at getting emotions across without being over the top.

I also think they both come across as nice people.

Classica · 21/02/2022 11:44

Some actors do go through a phase of being over-exposed, because producers like a safe name. I like Keely Hawes but other than It’s A Sin (where she out in an amazing performance) I can’t remember the last thing I’ve seen her in.

I was confused recently where two channels were each advertising an upcoming Sheridan Smith drama, one where she was a teacher shagging a 16 year old pupil and one where her 16 year old son was in trouble with the police.

And Lily James seems to be the new Keira Knightley, if it’s a period drama they all want Lil. She needs to take a year off.

But we all have actors who we just can’t bear. For me that’s Martin Freeman. Cannot stand the sight of him. Not a Suranne Jones fan either.

Classica · 21/02/2022 11:47

That's true, both from working class backgrounds so good for them.

Classica · 21/02/2022 11:48

@MrsToothyBitch

I love Keeley Hawes. I find Sheridan a bit type cast but I'll still happily watch either. I'd happily watch almost anyone mentioned above really. The only exception for me is Siobhan Finneran. I can't stand her. I also didn't think Olivia Colman was a good queen in The Crown. She's many things but she wasn't regal.
I really like Siobhan Finneran. Loved her in Alma's Not Normal.
IntermittentParps · 21/02/2022 11:50

I think Siobhan Finneran is fantastically good.
