Husband kicked dog

Chickencuddle · 20/02/2022 09:26

My dog had some food my husband didn't want him to have so he kicked it away from the dog and the dog bit his toe. It all happened so fast I don't know if the dog meant to bite him or was trying to get the food. But my husband got very angry kept saying angrily " he f*cking bit me" and kicked the dog around 3 times so it wasn't just a reactive kick if that makes sense. He kicked him the first time.. The dog backed away then he had to walk towards the dog and kicked him twice more.
He is normally such an animal lover so I was shocked and I told him not to kick him.
He just kept saying "well he bit my fucking toe" I asked to see his toe and his toe wasn't even red. I don't know what to say.
In my head I feel appalled I know I would never do that ever. But I know I can overthink and react. The dog isn't hurt didn't whimper or anything but was obviously not liking it and backing away.

@Chickencuddle

I just spoke to him about it and I said I can understand a reactive kick but you went back and did it twice more. He said he went back because he missed the dog the first time. He said he only actually kicked him once. He said if a dog does something bad you either tap them on the nose or give them a kick it wasnt ha really hard kick. I felt it was aggressive but he said it was a tap. He just makes me feel like I'm overreacting and told me that if people have dogs they do the same type of things if the dog is bad. I told him it was just because he wanted to eat it and it doesn't matter what other people do I would never kick him. He asked me what I would do and I said I'd step my foot away and raise my voice to the dog. He just laughed at me.
WOW. He went back because he missed him the first time and it was "just one kick"??

I could understand a reactive response, one off with out thinking, but to go back to deliberately kick the dog? What an arsehole. I think you should very seriously consider your options.

RubyRedRoses · 20/02/2022 10:38

@Thatsajokeright

I would absolutely leave DH if he did this to our dog.

An accidental kick as a reaction to being bitten is one thing. Purposely seeking the dog out to kick him twice more is quite another. Disgusting behaviour.

Yes, this.
FiveShelties · 20/02/2022 10:39

@Chickencuddle

He is actually vegan and very into animal rights etc
Into animal rights??? I could never forgive my husband if he did this.

Please rehome your dog if you plan to stay with him - I just wonder how he treats the dog when you are not there.

SlashBeef · 20/02/2022 10:40

So he is abusive to you and you let it go. Now he's turned his attentions to a defenseless animal who has no way of escape.
Rehome the poor thing if you won't leave.

amusedbush · 20/02/2022 10:41

He is minimising it and gaslighting you. His first kick missed the dog so he went back and did it twice more to ENSURE that he got him. He just told you outright that he will he continue to physically strike your dog if it ever misbehaves again and he LAUGHED when you said it was wrong.

I would leave my husband if he purposely kicked my dog as "discipline". It shows a calculated cruelty toward an animal that trusts and relies on him.

Evidently not. Not into listening to his wife, either.
Nailsbythesea · 20/02/2022 10:41

@AlwaysLatte

I think rehoming is the only option here. Although quite who would want to take on a bully who kicks animals, I'm not sure.
This. I'm sorry it would be it for me. Hoping you don't have children because me kids can drive me up the wall but I don't chase them to hit them.
DefaultParent · 20/02/2022 10:41

What an absolute cunt. He's not an animal lover.

caringcarer · 20/02/2022 10:42

I adore my dh but if he deliberately harmed one of my precious cats he would be kicked out. There would be no way back ever. Pet animals trust their owners to protect, not abuse them. Pets and children must be protected against bullies who abuse them and if you stand by, watch it happen, and take no action you are as bad as him.

ShowMeTheSugar · 20/02/2022 10:43

I have had dogs all my life and I would never discipline by kicking a dog or "tapping" their nose. Nor would any of my friends or family who have pets.

Bigger picture here is that you obviously need to leave but if you're not willing to at least rehome your poor dog.

EmilyEmmabob · 20/02/2022 10:43

Take the dog to a rescue away from that monster. Then LTB. This could take time so make sure you get the dog out of that situation. Disgusting human being, I'd report him to the police.

2022bab · 20/02/2022 10:44

Divorce. 100% serious, disgraceful behaviour.

2022bab · 20/02/2022 10:44

@Chickencuddle

He is actually vegan and very into animal rights etc
Well that's not true is it
CaptainCabinets · 20/02/2022 10:46

Oh no Sad your poor dog! I have a foot-shy dog who just last night screamed and bit my toe when I moved slightly in bed, he’s a rescue and I suspect he was kicked as he’s petrified of feet. I hope your dog doesn’t go the same way.

Throw the man out, he’s disgusting.

Tilltheend99 · 20/02/2022 10:46

Jeeze! He must be one of those people that goes vegan to boast about it and live the ‘scene’ (I say that as someone who has been vegetarian for 20 years.

Not only is he an animal abuser, because no one trains a dog by kicking it, but he is also abusive towards you by minimising your concerns and gaslighting you over this.

How long have you been married? Are these his true colours? Does he have any redeeming qualities!

LagunaBubbles · 20/02/2022 10:46

He is actually vegan and very into animal rights etc

Obviously not! I know what I would do, I really couldnt be with someone who kicks an animal. Might be you next to.

EvilPea · 20/02/2022 10:46

He missed first time!!
You don’t correct a dog that way.
He’s not made it any better and nor has his gaslighting “your over reacting”

rambleonplease · 20/02/2022 10:48

Aside from all the keyboard warrior LTB people on here. No he should not have kicked the dog! I have had dogs all my life and never once have they been kicked. Lesson should be, do not leave food out you do not want the dog to have. Then don't abruptly remove food from a dog while they are eating it, this is exactly when any dog could bite or nip you. He should have just learnt that he was in the wrong handling the dog with food like that in the first place. The dog did nothing wrong other than what is instinctive to them.

How long have you had the dog?

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/02/2022 10:49

Chickencuddle

I just spoke to him about it and I said I can understand a reactive kick but you went back and did it twice more. He said he went back because he missed the dog the first time. “

That makes it even worse.

fortunenookie · 20/02/2022 10:50

@Chickencuddle
“ He is actually vegan and very into animal rights etc”

Is he fuck
Get the dog to the vet - make him pay the OOH charge etc and really then you ought to rehire that poor animal somewhere he won’t be abused again or dump your husband’s sorry abusive arse.
Violence towards animals is an established indicator of abusive tendencies and let’s just say those tendencies are not generally limited to the family dog

converseandjeans · 20/02/2022 10:50

The dog was just behaving normally by going for the food & DH foot got in the way. So the dog wasn't being naughty or aggressive.

DH is now trying to make you out to be have over reacted. I don't believe he is as much of an animal lover as he says.

storminateacupagain · 20/02/2022 10:51

Oneof them has to go.
In this case your H- he is no lover of animals

Radiohat · 20/02/2022 10:52

Is this the husband who sexualy abuses you in your other posts?

Wavypurple · 20/02/2022 10:52

It will be you next.

I’m really sorry this happened but my advice would be to make an exit plan.

Lovemydoggie · 20/02/2022 10:52

That would be an immediate red card for any of my family if that happened!!
