Can't believe the ego-centric attitudes of those posters dismissing the impact of the storm based solely on their personal experience. Hmm
Lotta self-obsessed people in the world
Tiredalwaystired · 18/02/2022 14:47

@DePfeffoff

And? Parts of the North didn’t have power for a week following Storm Anwen in November. Funnily enough I didn’t see as much fuss on the National news for that though

Really? I'm in the South and I saw plenty on the news about Storm Arwen and the power situation in the North.

Was about to say the same. This was widely covered in the media for the best part of a week and I’m in The South. Sorry your narrative doesn’t fit the truth OP, but. I’m sure you feel cleansed by a bit of London bashing.

@Onairjunkie

Ok we’ve got an injured horse. He’s been brought in and we just have to hope to fuck the stables hold. One of my lads got a bit walloped bringing him in. Sad I’m off to tend to him now and try to calm him the fuck down.

I’m sure someone will be along to mock us for it.

Sorry to hear that.
Mrsmadevans · 18/02/2022 14:48
@Mrsmadevans we’ve thankfully not had too much rain otherwise I think we’d have a repeat of the huge flooding from last year(or maybe year before now!)

We’ve had some periods of pretty strong winds this morning and trees down towards Ross-On-Wye but nothing like what we thought we’d have!
I have been praying we don't have the awful flooding too, the river is up but nowhere near flood level thank God. Glad you are ok too . It's sunny here, still windy but like you not half as bad as we were expecting Smile

You see this all the time. A lack of empathy or understanding for other people's experiences because it doesn't tally with their own.

Ponoka7 · 18/02/2022 14:50

It's hitting Merseyside now. We've just took an elderly man home, he'd been picked up by two passers by. He's been visiting, because it was calm before he thought that it was a fuss about nothing. He'd been blown over crossing the road. Posters don't seem to get that if it was business as usual, there'd be more injuries and deaths.

Turningacornernow · 18/02/2022 14:50

Slim, small lady neighbour was picked up by the wind in front garden and smashed against the house wall. Covered in blood, is concussed and shocked. I saw them after it happened and husband said she has osteoporosis, so expect broken bones. Poor woman. In A&E now, I can imagine they’re v busy with similar accidents. We’re in SE

TheDogsMother · 18/02/2022 14:51

West Sussex. Broadband failed, ongoing power cut and mobile signal is intermittent. The gusts of wind are astonishing.

Hope the horse and the son are ok! And the stables hold! Flowers

More of the barn side here is flapping, now.
Had to work v hard to persuade DH not to go out to fix it, too much flying debris.

AngelicInnocent · 18/02/2022 14:52

In the hour or so since I posted, it would appear that the BBC forecast may be correct for once unfortunately. The wind is definitely getting worse but thankfully, nothing like as bad as some people have had it.

Giraffesandbottoms · 18/02/2022 14:54

@Turningacornernow 😱

RobertaFirmino · 18/02/2022 14:58

One positive for me in all this - it's a bloody good drying day! All the towels were bone dry within an hour!

RestingStitchFace · 18/02/2022 14:58

Essex - neighbour has lost a shed roof and part of a fence, we've lost the lid from our garden storage locker. It's not the worst I've ever seen but I'm definitely not going outside...

Oblomov22 · 18/02/2022 14:58

No is dismissing anyones else's experience. Some are just stating what is happening in their area. This does NOT automatically dismiss what others are experiencing.

Plus, the storm was initially supposed to start much earlier, then it later suggested 10-3pm. And reports of where it was bad took a long time to filter in.

SussexBonfireViking · 18/02/2022 15:00

@AmbushedByCake1

Easy Sussex here and loads of trees down and road is blocked.

Someone had left their Range Rover parked near a large tree = one squashed car!

Easy!!

When people are saying they don’t know what the fuss is about, you don’t think they’re being dismissive.

It's a bad storm in some places but these things happen in winter. Right to be cautious but it's the media drama that grates.

Thankfully here it's a bit calmer than the one in November.

SecretKeeper1 · 18/02/2022 15:06

@BlondeWidow

Absolutely nothing here on outskirts of York. We've had skies and sunshine all day 🌞 Smile
Same in Leeds but it’s turned now, still nothing major but it’s getting worse rather than better.

You obviously didn't see the "the horror!" response when someone commented a tree was down on a main road near there DDs house.

Some people are twats, don't defend them.

“People are recording how the weather is at the moment. I’m sure most expect it to worsen. That’s the point of this thread.”

I haven’t seen any poster mocking another posters experiences. I wouldn’t wish any harm on anyone else.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 18/02/2022 15:12

I'm in Somerset, it's been windy but otherwise a nice day with a fair bit of sunshine. We've definitely had it a lot worse over the winter and there were no weather warnings, school closures etc 🤷‍♀️

uncomfortablydumb53 · 18/02/2022 15:12

West Wilts here
Roof broken on bin shed and tree down in car parks
Part of the spire of a church in Wells, Somerset has come down!

You didn't read very far back then. Comments like 'the horror' and 'a bit of the O2s roof has come off' sound pretty mocking to me.
didshedidntshe · 18/02/2022 15:13

I'm in London and it is so windy! I just saw a woman get smacked in the face with a piece of flying cardboard! Also seen a lot of struggling pigeons!

ilovesooty · 18/02/2022 15:13

It wasn't too bad earlier here and I drove half an hour to the hairdressers and back again.

I opened the cat flap when I got back and one cat went out for half an hour : the other refused.

It's raining now and the wind has really picked up.
