@DePfeffoff

And? Parts of the North didn’t have power for a week following Storm Anwen in November. Funnily enough I didn’t see as much fuss on the National news for that though

Really? I'm in the South and I saw plenty on the news about Storm Arwen and the power situation in the North.

I'm south coast and also saw loads about it.

It looked awful.

I'm in the US (rest of family in the UK and Ireland) so I listen to the BBC. I recall lots of coverage about storm Arwen and about how some people had to go a couple of weeks without power.

And for the people complaining about the media, why do you listen/watch then? No one is forcing you to. There are plenty of news sources out there for everyone - just pick one or two that fit with your worldview/politics.

itsgettingweird · 18/02/2022 13:39

Why the competitive "was that it?"

Just be grateful you aren't affected as badly as others.

But don't dismiss those affected because you aren't Hmm

HufflepuffPride · 18/02/2022 13:39

@User135644

Strong winds where I am in the NW but nothing major. We had a worse storm in November.
Sssssh now. Don’t you know the South is suffering? A bit of the O2’s roof has blown off and everything 😉
CounsellorTroi · 18/02/2022 13:40

We are in a red warning area so I really was expecting it to be a lot worse. That said have just seen on the local news that a tree has been blown over on the next road to us. Apologies if I’ve come across as thick and unfeeling. I realise it’s very bad for many people.

Roadtripconcept · 18/02/2022 13:41

@MistyGreenAndBlue

Well the BBC are insisting its 68mph winds here. Funny that as there is barely a breeze. Been calm all day so far. But they never get it right in my area. (Stoke)
I'm in Stoke . It picked up here about mid day .It's hammering down and the wind is walloping against my windows. It keeps calming down a bit but the gusts of wind are quite powerful . All the trees are swinging and my rotary washing line looks like it might take off .
HesterShaw1 · 18/02/2022 13:41

Omg what a fuss about nothing, it's a little breeze, no one cared about us in THE NORTH when we had our wind, southern Jessies blah blah blah

Yeah fuck off. 90mph is pretty windy especially if you're not used to it. And you can hardly accuse Cornwall and Devin of not being accustomed to strong wind and rough sea. Seen the Sennen lifeboat station this morning have you?

Onairjunkie · 18/02/2022 13:41

Pipe down @HufflepuffPride you’re pissing me off now. We’re struggling here.

loopycurtains · 18/02/2022 13:42

@User135644 This storm was been receiving huge coverage for at least 24 hrs before London/SE England were issued a red warning.

And I'm in the South and saw loads of coverage over a couple of weeks about Arwen and the power outages.

South coast here, live pretty much on beach. It has been pretty rough. Huge waves and fences down in street and at my mum's a few miles inland too. Haven't gone anywhere to see if trees are down. Think this will be less so than other storms as we haven't had a great deal of rain today or in previous weeks, which is lucky.

I think the timing of the storm was key in the restrictions/school closures. I think if it was hitting overnight it would have been less of an issue.

Don't get why people are harping on about it being ok where they are so it's a load of nonsense (how can you be everywhere in the country all at once then?) We had 80mph winds here - would you approve of parents with buggies and kids doing a school run on an 80cm wide path where trucks often drive along, or would you prefer them to cross a coastal bridge and walk along the seafront during high tide instead? That's my school run. People are incapable of seeing things from any other perspective than their own. It's very sad.

Don't rise to it, some people are just dicks. Really hoping your animals are ok. Please keep us updated 😢
Tiredalwaystired · 18/02/2022 13:45

Part of the roof has come off the O2 in London according to the BBC

DollyDingleberry · 18/02/2022 13:45

Im also in Stoke (well, Leek way) and it's howling here. The rain isn't the problem it's the wind - I'm in our loft bedroom so I don't know if it just sounds worse, but next door have lost their garden furniture over the back wall and onto the main road.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 18/02/2022 13:45

I'm sure the bloke who is currently in hospital following bits of building falling on him in London would be delighted by your concern.

Drinkyourweaklemondrink · 18/02/2022 13:45

We are in the red area and so far we have a petrol station roof that has blown off, part of Tesco roof, and several trees blocking roads.
One of my neighbours still decided it was the opportune time to go and get a pint of milk at midday.

ClariceQuiff · 18/02/2022 13:46

Picked up a bit in W Yorks now but still nowhere near what others are getting. Rang my parents who are in a red area to check they were safe and there are trees down, flying roof tiles etc. Sad

Twopenny · 18/02/2022 13:46

@BearOfEasttown

I know some parts of the country have had it bad, but on the 'weather' board, some of the comments on the storm eunice thread(s) are just OTT and dramatic. Confused

Like 'Our walnut tree has just come up at the roots and smashed our shed to bits. Feeling both sad and a bit afraid. Kids are crying.'

And

'I am sobbing with fear.' and 'I'm literally shaking...' and 'We didn’t go to school - and had lots of tears. I feel really bad, but I got too scared.'

And 'Very hard to focus on work here. Every time there's a big gust I can't help but see how far the tree in our back garden is bending. Current answer: more than I thought possible. It's a big, thorny bastard so if branches come off they'll be pretty nasty.'

I think the posters on that board are whipping each other up, more than any storm possibly could! Some posters appear to be purposely scaring others. It's like they are enjoying the drama. Even this thread 'where's this storm then?' has been posted by a poster that seems to be a little irked that Storm Eunice hasn't been a lot worse! Confused

I'm tickled @BearOfEasttown has quoted my post from another thread about me keeping an eye on my thorny bastard of a tree as an example of OTT hysteria. Guess she, made of sterner stuff, would just ignore a massive tree thrashing away just outside her window and get her head down to some work instead of posting on Mumsnet Grin

Bear, you'll be pleased to know that my tree is still up so I am not sobbing or shaking just yet.

PlanetNormal · 18/02/2022 13:47

It’s just a windy day here in Leicestershire. The weather here is always boring. We are in the middle of England, south-east of the Pennines and as far from the coast as you can get in the British Isles. The worst of the weather always happens somewhere else.

sqirrelfriends · 18/02/2022 13:49

In red and nothing much of note has happened. Quite a lot of trees down but nothing that wasn't half rotten to begin with.

Just praying the power stays on.

Franklin12 · 18/02/2022 13:50

Cotswolds here. Someone was driving the other way to me and clearly a big branch had hit his windscreen shattering it. We have lots of tree branches down but nothing huge. Its very gusty though and yes I saw that plane trying to land.... it looked frightening.

Dagnabit · 18/02/2022 13:50

In Worcestershire here and it’s windy but not too bad - we are only on an Amber warning though and my town is relatively well sheltered. I can imagine it’s getting quite hairy around coastal areas etc. Stay safe, folks!

StScholastica · 18/02/2022 13:52

I'm north west England, popped out to the supermarket and the weather changed whilst i was in there. On the way back a huge tree fell between me and the car in front.
It can change in an instant.

pointythings · 18/02/2022 13:52

I'm in the southern bit of East Anglia, just inside the red zone and it's pretty scary. Bits of tree debris flying, trees down across roads and big branches coming down too, gusts really knocking you sideways if you're driving (I had to). I have seen worse in my life, but not much worse and not often.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 18/02/2022 13:53

Pretty grim on the Cumbrian coast now - strong winds and intermittent hailstorms and thunder. A house in our town was struck by lightning this morning too.
