Manchester/Cheshire border. Best blue skies in ages this morning; winds picking up a little bit, normal Mancunian drizzle!

knittingaddict · 18/02/2022 13:55

@GirlInACountrySong

Typical media over hyping things

And a storm warning is just that, a warning. But people seem to be enjoying the drama and more reasons to stay at home

What a snarky post.

Tree down in my daughter's street in Bath. It is a fairly main road and blocking traffic. Greenhouse destroyed in Wales.

HufflepuffPride A winky face doesn't stop you being a prat.

PickAChew · 18/02/2022 13:57

Clearly the media hype is the reason why a PP's livestock are frantic 🙄

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 18/02/2022 13:57

Thought the worst had passed here and now our fence has just come down 😒

Cardiff, very windy and rainy earlier, now sunny and mostly blue sky. Was that it then?

Maybe your part of Cardiff has its own little microclimate?

Passed an overturned lorry just before coming off for Cheddar in Somerset.

knittingaddict · 18/02/2022 13:59

People can be utter dicks sometimes.

GerardWay123 · 18/02/2022 13:59

South of England here. Sandbanks flooded. It was really windy in Winton but all calmed down now. I no longer have a fence though.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 18/02/2022 14:00

@NeverDropYourMooncup

Sssssh now. Don’t you know the South is suffering? A bit of the O2’s roof has blown off and everything

I'm sure the bloke who is currently in hospital following bits of building falling on him in London would be delighted by your concern.

A man in Henley has been taken to hospital with serious injuries too

You do realise that the Met Offices red warning is a risk to life warning! That’s anything from vehicles being blown over, trees blowing into cars/houses/people, tiles or other debris flying off buildings… they’re not messing around and having a laugh it’s a red warning for a reason. It’s ADVISED people stay home.

You realise the O2’s droid has been ripped off, massive trees have fallen into roads luckily not killing anyone and a church in Somerset’s steeple has snapped off!

Honestly some people are just thick.

ClaudineClare · 18/02/2022 14:01

I am in S Wales and there are intermittent patches of blue sky ans sun, but the wind is fierce.

DrEllie · 18/02/2022 14:01

I'm coastal NW and I could barely walk up the road it was so windy

Mollysocks · 18/02/2022 14:02

O2’s roof but if they had a droid that’s be excellent 🤣

Of course if you are one of the twats standing by the seafront taking pictures of the huge waves that might be a different story!

When it is due to die down?

Mollysocks · 18/02/2022 14:03

The horror!!

You do realise falling trees can kill right?
ClaudineClare · 18/02/2022 14:03

Honestly some people are just thick

If it is not happening to them it, doesn't exist and/or doesn't matter.

Definitely seems like it
knittingaddict · 18/02/2022 14:03

Forgot to add that the tree that came down was very close to my daughter's car.

Poor woman. That is about a mile and a half away from me and on higher ground. All I can say is that in my road, although it is windy, it’s not currently strong enough to be blowing garden furniture about or setting off car alarms. I used to live in that part of town and it was always worse when we had snow.

HerbertChops · 18/02/2022 14:04

We run a scaffolding company, we need these storm warnings as need to prepare and take down monoflex etc. very busy in London yesterday and this morning preparing. Not everyone works in an office you know!! Scaffolding is designed to move in the wind but we still get hundreds of calls asking us to come out mud-storm and take it down. So far all our scaffolding has stayed put and all employees safe. It’s very dangerous obviously to be up scaffolding in this wind.

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/02/2022 14:04

Trees down, walls fallen, roads closed, motorway closed because of an overturned lorry.

raspberryjamchicken · 18/02/2022 14:05

Considering the roof of the 02 has managed to survive unscathed for the past 20-odd years, surely that should be an indication that the storm is pretty severe? It's not just a tiny part that has blown off.
