I mentioned the O2 earlier.

Can people really not grasp that the storm is hitting parts of the country very hard?

I think if you are nice and warm in your house then you don't know what's going on out there. DH has been at work and has had to move numerous trees, he says it's awful out there.

It's really picking up here now

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 18/02/2022 13:26

@CounsellorTroi

Cardiff, very windy and rainy earlier, now sunny and mostly blue sky. Was that it then?
Great for you if it is. Clearly it's not the same for everyone else.

Some posters on this thread sound like right twats. The weather is now ok for them so apparently the storm is nothing.

I think that's too complex for them to grasp tbh.

I can see from this this thread that Covid deniers types have moved on from Covid to Storm Eunice.

The small mindedness of people who post things like ' What a fuss over nothing' because they personally have not experienced any of the storm or who think it is somehow not dramatic enough or that others are making too much drama out of it is mind blowing

Hopefully those who are having a bad time in the storm will keep safe. It seems to be passing here anyway after some very strong wind over the last couple of hours

I’m so sorry for people with livestock

@Suzi888

DD is off school and here we are, trying to work from home and it’s a a tad windy…FFS.
My grandchildren are annoyed because they're on half term so are missing a storm day off! Saw a comment where someone's wheelie bin will be doing a speed awareness course! Getting worse here in mid-Norfolk, I went out to the car at 4am because I woke for the loo and realised that my phone was in the car, uncharged!
Davetheshoes · 18/02/2022 13:30

It was quite calm here (Red area, near the Bristol Channel) early this morning, wind and rain really picked up around 10am when the power went off and fences came down. The schools are closed, the motorway was closed as a vehicle overturned and a flood warning has been issued. The power is back on, for now, but it's still very windy. It is sunny though!

HufflepuffPride · 18/02/2022 13:30

@MrsTrumpton

For those thinking it's no big deal, here's the current state of the O2's roof in London, taken from a Twitter news feed. Eunice is shredding it. Sad
And? Parts of the North didn’t have power for a week following Storm Anwen in November. Funnily enough I didn’t see as much fuss on the National news for that though…

I’m not saying it’s affecting people badly in some areas, but the media have hyped this up to be the worst storm ever and for the majority of us it’s a bit of a damp squib. Very windy yes, but I’ve heard a lot worse.

I was wondering whether there was a correlation. Also a distinct lack of sympathy for someone else's experience/fears.
expatmigrant · 18/02/2022 13:32

SW London/Surrey borders. Blowing a right hooley here now and a large branch has just come of one of neighbour's trees. Other neighbour had part of roof come off and smash through conservatory.
Stay safe out there!

Really? I'm in the South and I saw plenty on the news about Storm Arwen and the power situation in the North.

AlternativePerspective · 18/02/2022 13:32

Can people really not grasp that the storm is hitting parts of the country very hard? apparently not. Lacking in intelligence.

Southeastern , south western, Avanti, GWR have suspended all rail services atm. And I’m sure there are others.

The isle of Whyte has recorded wind speeds of 125 mph.

But the thick among us seem to think that if it’s not happening in their own bubble, then it’s not happening.

MrsTrumpton · 18/02/2022 13:33

HufflepuffPride Bully for you. For a lot of people it's causing considerable damage. And there was a lot of coverage about the power being out. Why does everything have to be a bloody competition these days?

Onairjunkie · 18/02/2022 13:33

@Giraffesandbottoms

I’m worried. Horses have exhausted themselves galloping round. Every gust gets up under them again and off they go. It must be safer than being inside so I have to just hope they’re ok. Also trying to get near them would be suicide.

Cows are sort of coping but they’re now unsecured as the fence and wall are down. We just have to hope. When it lulls we’re poised to get out there to secure and check on them. Sad

Sheep are in bothered.

pawpaws2022 · 18/02/2022 13:33

Lancashire
Hail then poured down with rain. Stopped now and it's a bit breezy but nothing unusual (I went to the doctors without a coat)

User135644 · 18/02/2022 13:33

Strong winds where I am in the NW but nothing major. We had a worse storm in November.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 18/02/2022 13:34

The strongest wind ever recorded in England has been recorded on the IoW - 122mph.

As ever, the tone of the media coverage depends on whether London is affected.

Fuck sake. Sorry you’re so disappointed.

Did people keep saying "is that it? What a fuss over nothing!" for Storm Arwen?

TYU7 · 18/02/2022 13:36

I’m surprised people don’t put Trampolines down in the winter. Accident waiting to happen them in wind.

SummerSanta12 · 18/02/2022 13:36

Lancs here, north of Manchester. It's been calm and sunny all morning and a little wet (nothing new). But wind is starting to pick up. I've just brought the bin in after collection and can definitely feel the change in the air.

We're in the yellow warning zone though, so hopefully it won't be too bad. All those in the red zone areas, stay safe x

SoupDragon · 18/02/2022 13:37

Way to miss my point entirely 😂🙄

It's not about news coverage, it's about the people saying "oh, it's just a light breeze! Stop whining!"
