@BearOfEasttown

I know some parts of the country have had it bad, but on the 'weather' board, some of the comments on the storm eunice thread(s) are just OTT and dramatic. Confused

Like 'Our walnut tree has just come up at the roots and smashed our shed to bits. Feeling both sad and a bit afraid. Kids are crying.'

And

'I am sobbing with fear.' and 'I'm literally shaking...' and 'We didn’t go to school - and had lots of tears. I feel really bad, but I got too scared.'

And 'Very hard to focus on work here. Every time there's a big gust I can't help but see how far the tree in our back garden is bending. Current answer: more than I thought possible. It's a big, thorny bastard so if branches come off they'll be pretty nasty.'

I think the posters on that board are whipping each other up, more than any storm possibly could! Some posters appear to be purposely scaring others. It's like they are enjoying the drama. Even this thread 'where's this storm then?' has been posted by a poster that seems to be a little irked that Storm Eunice hasn't been a lot worse! Confused

Feel better now hun?

DH is home with the DCs and has no power. I’m at work. Everyone else has gone home already as we’ve cancelled our clinics. Don’t actually want to drive home at the moment so going to wait it out here until the worst passes.

bigbeatmanifesto · 18/02/2022 13:04

I live opposite a woods in Merseyside the wind is very strong & the gusts are so powerful, the noise is unbelievable, so far we have had 2 huge trees fall and a plethora of huge branches and yet still people are choosing to walk the footpath through to the other side.
Unbelievable.

DoctorSnortles · 18/02/2022 13:06

@Giraffesandbottoms

Some people on here are utter dicks
I was just about to say exactly this.
MarshaBradyo · 18/02/2022 13:06

@stuntbubbles

SE London. One wheelie bin has blown over, the other two are fine. Saw a plastic carrier bag floating down the street. Incredible scenes.
You must be near us as sounds like our street

Although I know it’s worse elsewhere

EmpressSuiko · 18/02/2022 13:06

There definitely some chaos down here in Devon, trees are blocking several roads, windows and porches have been smashed by debris, roof tiles are flying off into cars/other houses, people that need to travel can’t due to road closures and it’s still going on, the winds here won’t be calming down until this evening

HufflepuffPride · 18/02/2022 13:07

It’s windy here but not as bad as Storm Anwen, that really was terrifying. Never heard anything like it, but it didn’t affect London so I’d imagine that’s why it didn’t get as much attention.

@User48751490

Storm in a tea cup more like! Tiny flurry of snow, sleet. That's it. What a fuss about nothing.
Yet another smug, I'm alright Jack comment.

CaveMum · 18/02/2022 13:08

Reporting back in from Cambs/Suffolk border, winds have really picked up here though no damage in our immediate area at the moment. No doubt the village Facebook page will alert me to any toppled trees or loose wheelie bins!

DoraSpenlow · 18/02/2022 13:08

In Somerset. Had an email from the gym last night to say they had decided to close today. Have just seen a picture of the car park with a tree that has fallen across it - where I usually park as well. Good call!

PizzaCrust · 18/02/2022 13:09

Not much here in NI (just outside Belfast). A bit windy and snow showers on/off but no chaos yet. I do know in other areas of NI that there’s more snow and flooding on the roads, though.

fromdownwest · 18/02/2022 13:10

Blue skies and glorious in West Wales.

RedRobyn2021 · 18/02/2022 13:11

North Yorkshire it's now hoofing it's down and very windy indeed. PROPER RAIN.

Giraffesandbottoms · 18/02/2022 13:11

Again in Surrey our entire fence is down

FavouritePi · 18/02/2022 13:12

Trampoline has gone missing from the garden, just had to stick bricks in the bins to stop them flying off into cars (after asking DH to secure bits and pieces but he thought that was an overreaction). There is debris flying around here and trees down. We're in the East and we weren't meant to be getting much of it, hopefully the brunt of it will be done by 3pm when the red weather warning was expected to end.

Mirrorball2022 · 18/02/2022 13:12

@PenStation

This thread is interesting because it shows how little some people understand about weather. As well as where you are in the country, the effects are going to depend on the wind direction as well as speed, and what kind of terrain the wind has to pass over before it arrives.
Exactly this. It’s not windy where I am in Manchester but I im not daft enough to realise it’s like that everywhere and the storm is a non event just cos it’s not affecting me (yet) loads of posts on this thread stating how bad it’s been in some areas and people are still at it…
Lockheart · 18/02/2022 13:13

@BearOfEasttown I've just searched all posts on both Storm Eunice threads on the weather board and not once does the word 'sobbing' appear anywhere. And the only place 'shaking' appears is to do with a house or someone's pet.

So if you could provide receipts to back up your goady fuckery that would be grand.

Home learning still getting to you, eh? Hmm

Big Jet TV was featured on tyhe BBC live feed, not sure we can credit MN with his viewing numbers!

Intermittent here in my corner of West Wales - bright now but five minutes ago grey as Hell and blowing hard. I'm a mile inland from the sea.
SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 18/02/2022 13:15

@Loopsisroundthetwist

Isles of Scilly. Has been wild since early hours. Put DS to bed on the sofa as his bed is across a window (ground floor) and we’ve got very little shelter there as on very high ground. Pet ducks are in the drying room to stop them blowing away too Grin. Kids big wooden playhouse in pieces but thankfully not caused damage to anything else (yet). Haven’t dared look out the front or venture out. It’s a little better than earlier but still fairly grim. At least at the top of the island we only have to contend with the wind. Lots of our lovely neighbours will be fending off the sea too Sad
You can’t say that without sharp by a picture of the ducks! Grin
KateF · 18/02/2022 13:16

It's gusting pretty fiercely and lashing down with rain here in South Beds. Lots of fences down and a trampoline in the high street!

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 18/02/2022 13:16

Sharing, not sharp by. Weird autocorrect!
