Fences down, roof tiles everywhere, greenhouse opposite completely gone. If you don't have that be grateful, and careful as it's still going here in Devon and has been for hours (so if it comes your way, it may do the same). Risk of flying debris high on roads and if you are walking about.

love these people saying 'storm in a teacup'. Roofs off in Wales and here in SE Kent there's lamp posts down, power lost and all sorts! Think yourself lucky.

This thread is interesting because it shows how little some people understand about weather. As well as where you are in the country, the effects are going to depend on the wind direction as well as speed, and what kind of terrain the wind has to pass over before it arrives.

DePfeffoff · 18/02/2022 12:44

@BearOfEasttown

I mean, a FEW places had it bad, but most of the UK seems to have just has a bit of a breeze, and a bit of rain.
Really not true
itsjustnotok · 18/02/2022 12:47

I love some of the comments at 7 this morning. Did everyone really expect a) to wake up to a huge storm and b) that it would be atrocious for everyone and c) it would hit simultaneously?

Yes.
AllThingsServeTheBeam · 18/02/2022 12:49

I'm in the midlands and it's a bit breezy and we've had a bit of rain but the suns out now. Thankfully.

Hope everyone where it is bad keeps safe!

DS3 in Birmingham uni said tree on car outside his halls of residence

toomuchlaundry · 18/02/2022 12:50

The storm arrived with us later than originally forecast and it is still going. So those who think you might have missed it, you might not have. I certainly wouldn’t want to be at Center Parcs in this weather

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/02/2022 12:52

Like 'Our walnut tree has just come up at the roots and smashed our shed to bits. Feeling both sad and a bit afraid. Kids are crying.

Bit nasty don't you think? The tree was 22 years old and the poster was understandably upset.

StrawberrySanta · 18/02/2022 12:54

Drizzle and a light breeze in hull

RestingMurderousFace · 18/02/2022 12:55

Mercifully quiet in Altrincham.

SenseFromThoughtDivide · 18/02/2022 12:56

The wind has just peeled the felting off the shed roof (not altogether a surprise as it’s quite old) it was just a shame I couldn’t use the same excuse as last it happened at Christmas many years ago - I told my son Santa had made a bad landing!

SoupDragon · 18/02/2022 12:57

I know some parts of the country have had it bad, but on the 'weather' board, some of the comments on the storm eunice thread(s) are just OTT and dramatic.

I'm not sure you do actually grasp that parts of the country have it way worse than you do.

Part of the roof has torn off from the O2 arena in London. That isn't just a light breeze.

Giraffesandbottoms · 18/02/2022 12:57

Some people on here are utter dicks

Didioverstep · 18/02/2022 12:57

It's awful South East all schools closed. My kids heavy play house has blown down the garden and I've given up dragging it back. Neighbours roof tiles have blown off. Bins all over the place. Hopefully will be over in a couple of hours

thegreylady · 18/02/2022 12:59

Wind picking up a lot since my last post. A bit scary now.

Dutchesss · 18/02/2022 12:59

I agree, such a flippant remark from someone who doesn't understand.

@Inastatus

100k now watching Big Jet tv! Never heard of it until today. He can definitely thank MN for his viewing figures!
I got the link from Twitter. Everyone seems to be watching it on there. Not sure it’s just mumsnet tbh.
Whataroyalannoyance · 18/02/2022 13:01

I now have no garden fences and the back of my house is open onto a car park. Gonna cost to get it fixed but atm were lucky it's not worse

skyeisthelimit · 18/02/2022 13:02

North Devon here. Seen reports of at least 10 huge trees down blocking main roads. There are roofs being ripped off, greenhouses and fences being destroyed, windows blowing out and clock towers swaying and becoming dangerous. It is carnage out there.

Our local school remained open but most of the buses didn't run and some of the staff couldn't get in. 314/384 schools closed in this council area. I think they made the right decision as now a lot of the roads around here are blocked off

tiredanddangerous · 18/02/2022 13:03

The wind is definitely picking up in my area of the west mids. I'm hoping the worst of it will hold off til me and my dc are all home at 3.30!

Loopsisroundthetwist · 18/02/2022 13:03

Isles of Scilly. Has been wild since early hours. Put DS to bed on the sofa as his bed is across a window (ground floor) and we’ve got very little shelter there as on very high ground. Pet ducks are in the drying room to stop them blowing away too Grin. Kids big wooden playhouse in pieces but thankfully not caused damage to anything else (yet). Haven’t dared look out the front or venture out.
It’s a little better than earlier but still fairly grim. At least at the top of the island we only have to contend with the wind. Lots of our lovely neighbours will be fending off the sea too Sad
