Our Center parcs holiday in Nottingham (Sherwood) was cancelled last night. We live nearby and it’s just a normal windy day here. Trying to explain to the upset kids why we can’t go. Maybe it will get worse later but the forecast says we are through the worst now

Giraffesandbottoms · 18/02/2022 12:34

LOL. It does feel like it has been wildly over exaggerated doesn't it?

Are people reading other comments?!

Bunnyfuller · 18/02/2022 12:35

DD17 not happy as I’ve said I’m not taking her to meet her mate (A45, lots of trees and high sided lorries!) unless it starts calming down.

We have a metal/glass gazebo fixed into the patio which I’m watching wobbling madly. Will be a far bigger problem if that goes!

Is it expected to move across over a couple of hours? (Hoping)

ShiroMiso · 18/02/2022 12:35

S.E London here.

Having problems with my electricity.

Lights not working but plugs are, I reset everything and now it's the other way round.

Does it sound weather related or do I need to call a sparky 😐

FedUpOfLighteningCrotch · 18/02/2022 12:36

@Mrsmadevans we’ve thankfully not had too much rain otherwise I think we’d have a repeat of the huge flooding from last year(or maybe year before now!)

We’ve had some periods of pretty strong winds this morning and trees down towards Ross-On-Wye but nothing like what we thought we’d have!

firef1y · 18/02/2022 12:36

East Coast..
Went out for a speed session with my PT at 7am, was windy but not horrendous, definitely enough to make it hard work, prob around 30mph. Took car to garage for MOT straight after, walking back it was definitely picking up, gusting at about 50mph by 10.30am when I walked back down to pick it up. Since then it's got stronger and stronger, next door has lost their trampoline and trees are down on some of the local (rural) roads. Hopefully should start easing in the next hour

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 18/02/2022 12:37

@Enko

I've just pulled inside 24 bins and a fence panel at work to ensure our residents are safe. I had to retrieve 2 bins from the road

I am in Kent and its not nice here

I too am in Kent and have just watched the roof on the school next door blow off!

It’s clearly regional and obviously bad in the south and wales Why this means out north east holiday needed to be cancelled I’m not sure!

Milomonster · 18/02/2022 12:37

@loopycurtains I thought the A380 landed - it was thrilling to watch! Or was that the Dubai one. Jet TV guy was impressed with it!

If you have a local Facebook group, see if anyone else is reporting issues with power cuts there. That's always a quick way to check in my area (also SE London) as lots of people will post and ask!
Bunnyfuller · 18/02/2022 12:37

Woodshed gone now 😣

thetemptationofchocolate · 18/02/2022 12:38

There's hardly a road open around here due to fallen trees. But on the plus side we did just get our power back.

emmetgirl · 18/02/2022 12:38

Cornwall here. Loads of really huge trees down and here's a pic of Sennen lifeboat station with its roof on the ground in front of it.

Where is this storm then?
TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/02/2022 12:39

Part of the roof has blown off the house behind my friend in Chingford's house (NE London).

Homeatlast2 · 18/02/2022 12:39

@stuntbubbles

SE London. One wheelie bin has blown over, the other two are fine. Saw a plastic carrier bag floating down the street. Incredible scenes.
SE London as well . I also saw a plastic bag. I had to rescue my bin.
whynotwhatknot · 18/02/2022 12:39

its over here in the east-at least they wereprepared (sort of this time

comingintomyown · 18/02/2022 12:39

Terrifying those with nothing much be grateful

Silversprinkles · 18/02/2022 12:39

@User48751490

Storm in a tea cup more like! Tiny flurry of snow, sleet. That's it. What a fuss about nothing.
For you maybe, not for everyone! Hmm
LightsoftheNorth · 18/02/2022 12:39

4, maybe 5 inches of snow here in Perthshire. Breezy but nothing unusual.

ShiroMiso · 18/02/2022 12:40

@nordica good idea, thank you. I've just put a post up Smile

Hope it is the storm I can do without the expense.

Pedalpushers · 18/02/2022 12:40

In London at around 11 it genuinely felt like my windows were about to come in, they were thudding and shaking! Calmed down a bit now.

Doozy1991 · 18/02/2022 12:40

I'm in Kent (more towards London) and I've lost my fence panels and my back gate!

Parky04 · 18/02/2022 12:41

@Noluthando

North Manchester , rainy moderate to heavy and not particularly windy
Like any other day then!

Ooh I'm not sure. I thought the landing gear went back up and it went up again. I'm a very novice plane watcher here though (only started this new hobby 10 mins ago Grin) and might have got mixed up...

I'm really sorry to hear that. Sad

I have friends who live near Nottingham, their building work was called off today in anticipation of bad weather. But they say it's been a really pleasant and warm day.
