North Herts. Lovely blue sky is now disappearing under rolling clouds. Gusts have picked up.

Marmelace · 18/02/2022 10:51

If you want to see where the wind is and have time to kill then watch Big Jet TV live from Heathrow on YouTube, planes aborting landings due to the wind shear - scary to watch!

Oh my god... I just watched the MOST TERRIFYING landing on here!!!!!!!! Those pilots need a pay rise![/quote]
Watching now, praying everyone is safe.

GoldStorm · 18/02/2022 10:52

@Onairjunkie

Cows have now all stood back up and formed a sort of cow clump in the bottom corner of the field. I wonder if they’re like penguins in arctic winds and will rotate who’s on the outside for fairness.
Clever cows!
goingpearshaped · 18/02/2022 10:52

Sw and it's here now! Twas fine earlier.

TheSmallAssassin · 18/02/2022 10:53

@randomchap

It doesn't show live wind speed, it shows a forecast from the US global model.
evilharpy · 18/02/2022 10:54

Good lord that jet that just came in from Vienna... brown trousers time just watching it. Fair play to the pilot.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 18/02/2022 10:56

Howling a Gale and pissing down in SE wales
Flights being cancelled and delayed out of the local airport
But hey it's just media hypeHmm
Do these posters not realise how thick they sound?
Hopefully the worst will blow through by early afternoon

WizardOfAus · 18/02/2022 10:56

I know!! It was its third and final attempt. Just nuts. Imagine being a passenger. White knuckles all the way.
TiddyTidTwo · 18/02/2022 10:56

Thanks for the Heathrow link! Those pilots are awesome. Also got Flightradar24 on so that's my Friday sorted.

In Suffolk and it's very gusty out now but the sun is shining

trevthecat · 18/02/2022 10:56

North west England coast here! It was fine but is now really raining and winds picking up.

vodkaredbullgirl · 18/02/2022 10:58

Bus service's in Somerset have been suspended till further notice. May have to go and pick my dd up later from work.

Snugglepumpkin · 18/02/2022 10:58

My arbor is now about 3 feet away from where it usually is so I think the winds picking up.
It's never moved before.

TheDogsMother · 18/02/2022 10:58

Jesus those landings at Heathrow are terrifying !

LibrariesGiveUsPower · 18/02/2022 10:59

Pretty blustery in South Wales, not extreme though.

Definitely not retraining as a pilot!

TheSmallAssassin · 18/02/2022 10:59

If you want the latest wind speeds, XC Weather is good

steppemum · 18/02/2022 10:59

well wiltshire here.

In the last hour it has picked up massively.

Looks like our pergola is going over. All loose things in garden have been battened down.
Probably the worst wind I've ever seen here, lived here 10 years.
We have 2 trees in the garden, one is evergreen and is taking a battering, really worried it will come down, won't hit the house but will take the garden wall with it. Fortunately it is blowing away from the chicken run.
Chickens have gone back to bed Grin

Marmelace · 18/02/2022 11:00

Hearts pounding at Heathrow, it landed thank goodness

Bunnyfuller · 18/02/2022 11:02

First huge gust did this. Three large fence panels, supports snapped at bottom. Dog flap now blocked to stop our dog wandering!

Northants here. Just gone and herded some wheelie bins, bin day here so obvs bin emptied and left to hurtle around the roads. 😐🙄

Where is this storm then?
mateysmum · 18/02/2022 11:02

It's definitely in Somerset now!

MillyMollyMandyMaybe · 18/02/2022 11:05

Gloucestershire is pretty terrifying right now

Mulhollandmagoo · 18/02/2022 11:05

South Yorks here, was really nice blue skies this morning and I was hoping we'd missed it but heavy rain and strong wind and a really dull sky here now :-( My husband has quite a long commute to work so I'm thankful we all got to work/nursery safe before it kicked off, hopefully the worst is done by home time. Quite scary that we are in a relatively low impact area, can't imagine what its like in those red areas.

user1471517095 · 18/02/2022 11:06

Leeds West Yorkshire, if I said it was breezy I would be exaggerating.

desperatehousewife21 · 18/02/2022 11:06

Kent here, blue skies but wind picking up.

Hope everyone with outdoor pets come out the other side unscathed.

Inastatus · 18/02/2022 11:07

@Marmelace

Watching Big Jet TV ĺive on youtube, scary watching the planes trying to land. One just got diverted to Geneva.
@Marmelace - thanks for the link. It’s intense viewing!
serialgrannie · 18/02/2022 11:08

South Glos calling. After a calm early morning (DH blaming BBC for over-hyping!!!) it's blowing an absolute hurricane now with rain and terrific gusts. No damage as yet but large fir trees nearby look worrying. DH now glued to YouTube watching the planes trying to land. Those pilots are amazing.
