We're just leaving Padstow. It's not great, frankly.

Mirrorball2022 · 18/02/2022 10:08

The amount of people commenting it’s not windy it’s over egged. It’s not even forecast to hit their areas yet…. It may be over egged who knows storms can change when they hit land but at least look at the times it’s supposed to hit you before assuming it’s not going.

couldhavegonethen · 18/02/2022 10:09

Early blue skies have disappeared. Wind ramping up now and gusting here in Wiltshire.

WhenIHadYou · 18/02/2022 10:09

Fuck all happening here. Were supposed to be in the eye of the storm by now. Feel sorry for anyone who's had plans cancelled or has got their kids stuck off school.

Sammysquiz · 18/02/2022 10:09

Blue skys here bin hasn’t even fallen over I think possibly they have over egged it the media hyping things up as per usual

If you look at a weather map the storm is currently just south of Ireland. But heading in our direction, so don’t write it off just yet!

Legalconundrums · 18/02/2022 10:09

@drinkingwineoutofamug if I thought I could get an appointment this side of 2025 I might....:-)

Exactly....the ''Windy'' app shows the ''Centre'' off the storm still at sea near Bristol Channel , South of Eire region
Threewheeler1 · 18/02/2022 10:11

OK, just turned around to see a medium sized branch outside the back door. Think it bounced off the roof and it's a bit of beech tree from up the top of the garden. Uh oh.

Mydoghealsmyheart · 18/02/2022 10:12

North Herts and a bit breezy but really sunny.

Onairjunkie · 18/02/2022 10:12

We have a strange situation (Sussex) with bright blue skies and sunshine and worsening winds, but with a load of rain clattering the windows in a one-er every now and then.
The cows have all moved to an unusual portion of the field I can see, too. Lots of them are lying down. Horses are completely not arsed and are grazing.
Chickens still out. Can’t see sheep.

Where is this storm then?
SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 18/02/2022 10:13

@SpaghettiArmsMurderer

Pretty strong intermittent gusts here in Berks now but doesn’t look strong enough to bring down trees/damage roofs etc. Have heard quite a few sirens but that could just be where I live and nothing to do with the storm!
Spoke too soon, just watched a tile blow off a neighbour’s roof 😬

Agree with this, even if it does end up being quite mild - great news by the way for people who won't have their homes damaged or trees fall on them - it doesn't mean meteorologists were "wrong". They don't have crystal balls and can only work on probability.

White area on map shows where ''Storm'' is at present {10:13am}

Where is this storm then?
Oblomov22 · 18/02/2022 10:14

"Do people not understand that just because it hasn’t hit their area it won’t. "

Mirrorball don't insult our intelligence. We aren't stupid. Most of us here are not just talking about our areas. We are asking if anyone has it bad yet?

It doesn't yet seem to be as bad as they implied.

Lavendersquare · 18/02/2022 10:15

The message that I've just seen is that the storm is moving more slowly than expected, so the wind etc will be worse later in the day.

I'm in South Wales and the storm is starting to pick up now. Every so often the gusts are really powerful and feel like they could blow the house down.

We've locked everything we can in the garage other than the trampoline and that's been tethered to the gate post.

I'm North Herts too. It's so clear and sunny but I believe we're yet to be hit.
HerbertChops · 18/02/2022 10:16

SW London and it’s picking up here, red warning was for 10-3pm so expecting it to get worse. We run a scaffolding company and the phones are non stop already.

SalsaLove · 18/02/2022 10:16

Strong gusts in Oxford

mowglika · 18/02/2022 10:18

Anyone heard of the calm before the storm? It’s getting blustery and high winds here in Essex, bins and debris rolling around on the roads. Bad day for recycling collection Confused

Inastatus · 18/02/2022 10:18

It’s bloody windy here Hampshire/Dorset border. A huge branch of tree has just come down and demolished our garden table!

deydododatdodontdeydo · 18/02/2022 10:18

It’s not even forecast to hit their areas yet

Most people are just reporting how it is in their area right now.
But it was most certainly forecast to hit our areas by now, lots of places said starting from 8am or 9am (think it was here), so worth commenting that nothing so far.

cathotel · 18/02/2022 10:19

Blue skies now in SW London. Sunny and quite warm. Just a bit blustery in the high trees.

oakleaffy · 18/02/2022 10:19

@WhoAre

I work for emergency services in South East. We have had a few people trapped under trees and RTCs because of trees in the road, it may not seem that bad but we have been told that we may be dealing with people who has lost their lives.
Exactly this. Trees, flying debris and overturned vehicles are the risk. Heck, even in the local park a 3 metre tree branch {Rotten} came crashing down onto a path ..and that was a couple of days ago. One gale saw a sheet of corrugated iron fly off scaffolding ands that demolished a stone balcony of a Victorian house. Imagine if instead it had hit a pedestrian...
