@fairylightsandwaxmelts

Windy here in Cumbria and we've had rain and hail already. Wind speeds around 30-40mph already.

It's not due to hit us properly until lunchtime with speeds of around 60-70mph, though. We're on the coast so it feels worse, I think.

Same here further down the NW coast.

Not sure I'd be doing a Michael Fish like some posters...it's not meant to be here yet. And, frankly, if it turns out to be better than anticipated, that's a good thing, as far as I'm concerned.

DontWiltMySpinachPlease · 18/02/2022 09:42

It's in Kent!

ghostmouse · 18/02/2022 09:42

It’s picking up here a little in northwales but as of yet no worse than what we’ve had recently

Tomeeornottomee · 18/02/2022 09:42

My bins have clearly had an argument. The black bin has the huff and has moved a couple of feet away from the green bin. And turned its back on him/her.

inappropriateraspberry · 18/02/2022 09:42

Power just flickered on and off! Getting a lot worse now, more constant, less gusty. Also pouring down as well.

Bromse · 18/02/2022 09:43

It's blustery here but not too bad at all.

Onairjunkie · 18/02/2022 09:43

Surely your chickens should be inside anyway? DEFRA rules, due to bird flu?

@StScholastica They’re in a large outside run that is sealed with a fine mesh fruit net to stop wild birds entering. I refused to leave them inside with nothing to scratch for an indefinite amount of time so I built them a huge covered space outside…

CaveMum · 18/02/2022 09:43

It's definitely hit Porthcawl: www.porthcawl-lifeboat.co.uk/live-streaming/

oakleaffy · 18/02/2022 09:44

Picking up here...Trees shaking in gardens, and a heavy, grey cloudy sky...moving fast from West. {Bristol Channel area}

Popable · 18/02/2022 09:44

I'm up north and it's the nicest day we've had for a while here!

sanityisamyth · 18/02/2022 09:45

Started raining and stronger winds now in Cardiff.

nanbread · 18/02/2022 09:45

@Marylou62

Well it's here.. Just went outside to investigate banging and the wind had blown a paving slab off the recycling box! Fences swaying and gutters rattling.. nearly blew me off my feet and I was at the side of the house shielded from the sea... According to my weather app it's not due to peak until mid day... Wish us luck...(lighthearted) (I was working nights during the Great Storm of '87 in a neonatal unit..The Lights went out and all the vital equipment (Ventilators , IV pumps, incubators ) stopped working..Having to (bag)hand ventilate. It was chaos when the emergency generator kicked in.. All the machinery for 12 critical babies alarming all at once.. luckily staff on the maternity unit rushed up to help.. And more importantly No baby was harmed..)
Wow what a story, well done keeping going
AlternativelyWired · 18/02/2022 09:45

Windy but sunny with lovely blue skies here between Manchester and Sheffield. Might put the washing out.

SpaghettiArmsMurderer · 18/02/2022 09:45

Pretty strong intermittent gusts here in Berks now but doesn’t look strong enough to bring down trees/damage roofs etc. Have heard quite a few sirens but that could just be where I live and nothing to do with the storm!

BoodleBug51 · 18/02/2022 09:45

North Gloucestershire. I'm in the doghouse as I made DH open the garage at 10pm last night and put the wheelie bins/garden furniture in there. He wasn't impressed..... and there was barely a whisper of wind this morning......He's muttering under his breath now about banning me from watching the news.

Mind you, the traffic to work was amazing..... as all the schools and nurseries are shut in the area, my commute took half the time. Every cloud and all that Grin

steppemum · 18/02/2022 09:47

I am wiltshire. Our warning was 7 am - 12 pm.

At 8 am the trees were stationary in the garden.
Now they are seriously blowing around.
Doesn't feel any worse than a normal storm yet.

All schools here are closed!
we'll see how it goes.

I'm supposed to drive dd across the county this evening. So I hope it has passed as forecast by then

itsgettingweird · 18/02/2022 09:48

@Mollysocks

My DP works in Portsmouth and his office has been closed. It’s lovely and sunny here in Dorset just a light wind. Maybe it’s literally the calm before the storm! 🤣
Just outside Portsmouth here and sun has just come out.

Getting windier though.

We should travel into Portsmouth for swimming this morning but was cancelled. Think maybe this evenings will be cancelled too. Don't fancy crossing the m275 in this!

Tiredalwaystired · 18/02/2022 09:48

@GirlInACountrySong

Typical media over hyping things

And a storm warning is just that, a warning. But people seem to be enjoying the drama and more reasons to stay at home

I sincerely hope your message ages well!

(The media don’t always overhype - remember Michael Fish?)

Windy but fine just now. But we were in Scotland yesterday and it was beautiful and clear. Today the same area has a hefty covering of snow. These things can happen fast.

Think I might need a new shed roof or a new shed, roof felt coming off.

FasterthanBolt · 18/02/2022 09:49

Hampshire coast here, bright blue skies and a bit of wind but nothing compared to what is forecast!

Thegirlhasnamechanged · 18/02/2022 09:50

In Leeds here and if it wasn’t for the storm warning I would put some washing on the line as we’ve clear blue skies with a bit of wind

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 18/02/2022 09:50

@vodkaredbullgirl snap, part of mine has just flown past my window.

Nailsbythesea · 18/02/2022 09:50

I'm in Somerset (North) and it's picking up here in the last 15 minutes. Can't really stand in the garden at the moment...........everything is tied down but I can see a neighbour's roof damaged a street away........
oakleaffy · 18/02/2022 09:51

Wow....in last 10 mins really buffeting house! {Bristol area} ..Suddenly got worse.
