Ryan Reynolds

I am so bored today, so I was chatting about film recommendations with someone. I love action films, and a few with Ryan Reynolds were mentioned, and he seems to pop up in a load of them just now. AIBU to think Ryan Reynolds is a terrible actor? I can’t stand him, and he acts like he is playing the same character in every film, and his voice is intensely irritating. He ruins every film he’s in, and I don’t know why he annoys me so much, but I just don’t get why he’s so popular. He gives me the ick. Is it just me?

YABU
Ryan Reynolds is blade 3. He is the only one who makes that film watchable

Campfirewood · 17/02/2022 15:47

He's so bloody hot though, his six pack, his sense of humour, I'm a big fan. The only man I would kick him out of bed for would be Paul Rudd.

Have you seen this ad he did for Ifor Williams?! The Welsh trailer company that sponsor Wrexham FC? Hilarious!

(ignoring all the people saying he is a dog and treats women badly, I have seen no evidence of this and shall remain this way Grin

Pazuzu · 17/02/2022 15:51

Haven't seen all of his stuff but he nailed Deadpool (and there can't be many actors who get name checked by the character they later play).

Let's not mention Green Lantern ever again though.

He's found a style which is bankable. Like Connery, Seth Rogen, even the Rock. Why mess with what works?

Also Alanis, Scarlett and Blake? Must have something going for him.

BoodleBug51 · 17/02/2022 15:51

I liked him until one of my DD's made me watch Just Friends with her......... that ruined it. He's got major ick factor in that film Grin

ImprobablePuffin · 17/02/2022 15:52

I really enjoyed him in the movie where he lives in a video game - I forget the name.

But I always like the people everyone hates and vice versa.

Eg I can't fucking stand Tom Cruise but everyone seems to love him.

ImprobablePuffin · 17/02/2022 15:59

@Louisianagumbo

And don't get me started on that great plank of wood known as Chris Hemsworth!
Nooooo!! Chris Hemsworth as Thor is a thing of beauty
okelydokelyneighbourino · 17/02/2022 15:59

I'm not a fan and couldn't stand dead pool. But he did win me over with the voices. It was so ridiculous I loved it.

SilverSplitsTheBlue · 17/02/2022 16:09

Jagged little pill was all about RR apparently!

Classica · 17/02/2022 16:09

Tom Cruise threads are nearly always 85% 'he's a bit weird'.

Teakind · 17/02/2022 16:11

YABVVVU : ) I love him, especially in The Proposal

Wouldn't he only have been in his late teens when that was released?

Oh really? I've never seen those! I always get told I'm odd when I say I can't stand TC

Virtually everyone with XX chromosomes says 'Tom 'Scientologist Silent Birth' Cruise? Nutter!' in my experience, anyway.
bluepeacock · 17/02/2022 16:34

Yep. One of the only things dh and I agree about is our mutual dislike of Ryan Reynolds (and James corden).

They weren't together then,Jagged little Pill came out in 95

Peccary · 17/02/2022 16:38

Jagged Little Pill is much older than their relationship but I think later albums were about him

I like him well enough in films, there are certainly worse out there

BOOTS52 · 17/02/2022 16:42

Not the biggest fan of him either and think he is overrated. But for a minute I thought you meant Ryan Gosling who I love and his dark sense of humour and is a very good actor.

I need to apply a cold compress to my forehead when James Corden pops up unexpectedly in something. And he pops up in a lot of things. He has to be one of the most annoying motherfuckers in the world.
Elasmotherium · 17/02/2022 16:56

I'm not a fan of Deadpool - not my type of thing at all but I did love RR in 'Woman n Gold' where he plays opposite Helen Mirren.

It's so very different to his recent comedy persona roles. In this film he reminded me of James Stewart - wish he would do more of this type of thing!

StormTreader · 17/02/2022 16:57

I love RR!

I feel like he's part of the Keanu/Brendon Fraser/Hugh Jackman/The Rock revolution where we can celebrate men who are nice, actually care about their partners and families, and can be action stars without being the "nothing but a slab of muscle and a grunt" films we've had for so long. Not every action star needs to be Rambo.

JolieJ · 17/02/2022 17:11

As a Canadian I will not hear a bad word against him Grin

Thatsplentyjack · 17/02/2022 17:13

I Reay like him. Think he's funny but I haven't seen many films with him in. Deadpool and maybe a couple of others.

Newnamefor2022 · 17/02/2022 17:18

I absolutely love his films. Yes he plays the same role in each but they’re fun. I could watch Deadpool 1 & 2 on a loop!

ineedsun · 17/02/2022 17:50

I’d like to go for a pint with him and his wife - not in a sexy way, although they are both gorgeous - they seem pretty down to earth and like you could have a great laugh with them.
