Ryan Reynolds

I am so bored today, so I was chatting about film recommendations with someone. I love action films, and a few with Ryan Reynolds were mentioned, and he seems to pop up in a load of them just now. AIBU to think Ryan Reynolds is a terrible actor? I can’t stand him, and he acts like he is playing the same character in every film, and his voice is intensely irritating. He ruins every film he’s in, and I don’t know why he annoys me so much, but I just don’t get why he’s so popular. He gives me the ick. Is it just me?

He does but then so does Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Seth Rogan, Steve Carrell… I could go on 🤣

Amortentia · 17/02/2022 13:24

@seven7sisters

Oh I love him

Have you seen the Proposal, love that one 😍

No, I can't abide Rom Coms. Maybe that's why I can't stand him. Grin

I hadn’t noticed the irritating voice or sameness of character. I’ve only seen him in three things, deadpool, something with Sandra Bullock and something with Jeff Bridges (R.I.P.D. I think).
What I have noticed is he has a cute face and great body.

SnakeLinguine · 17/02/2022 13:28

I think I've only seen him in that Netflix thing with the Rock, some one of the Fast and Furious spin-offs where he played some minor FBI guy, and Free Guy, which was actually kind of sweet -- based on this small sample, he does in fact play a version of the same character, but quite likeably.

MondayYogurt · 17/02/2022 13:28

Reynolds>Gosling but they both have close set eyes

Staffy1 · 17/02/2022 13:29

I used to think the same thing about Adam Sandler years ago. He was in everything and I couldn’t understand why he was the chosen one at the time.

SpiderVersed · 17/02/2022 13:30

He's no character actor but he's charming, gorgeous and fun to watch.

CornishGem1975 · 17/02/2022 13:31

He does play the same character but I do like him and do find him entertaining so I can let that go.

I quite like Ryan Gosling, apart from that Notebook nonsense he seems like quite a serious actor.

To be fair he is greatly loved. By himself. He thinks he's so amusing with his fake feuds but he's really not - he's repetitive and boring. He's an average actor. Apart from the proposal, (whose success was down to Sandra Bullock) he never made a successful film until Deadpool. Which is just really about being foul mouthed and farting. And just to be unnecessarily personal, there's something odd about the proportions of his face.
He is so unattractive in looks, manner and ability.
Thanks, op, I've wanted to say that for ages.

Louisianagumbo · 17/02/2022 13:33

And don't get me started on that great plank of wood known as Chris Hemsworth!

phoenixrosehere · 17/02/2022 13:33

I'm sure he's absolutely lovely, but I don't rate him as an actor. His voice is more about how he delivers his lines, he does it in the same way in every film he is in. Plus, he's an actor, he should have some kind of range.

You could say that about a majority of actors tbh. Saying that, I don’t think he is the same when it comes to more serious roles. I didn’t get that vibe when he was in Smokin’ Aces. Massive fan of Deadpool and his more comedic roles because I know I’m going to laugh and I like having and knowing I have a go-to person.

I adore that facepalm GIF

He has The MOST Perfect hands.

Fabuleuse · 17/02/2022 13:34

He does play the same character in every film, this is true. However I am exceptionally easy to irritate and he doesn't annoy me, I quite like him in fact.

georgarina · 17/02/2022 13:35

I think he's one of those comedy actors like Rebel Wilson, Seth Rogen, Melissa Mccarthy etc whose personality is basically their brand and what they bring to every film.

Can b v funny but also tiring to watch for the 100th time, especially when it's the same director and group of actors making something indistinguishable from anything else they've done.

(Just Friends is one of my all-time favs though)

1000yellowdaisies · 17/02/2022 13:38

YA definitely NBA! I could have written this thread! He is a crap actor. Hes in so many films but all he does is play the same smarmy character in every one.

SamphiretheStickerist · 17/02/2022 13:38

Behave!

Michael Caine
Steve McQueen
Gregory Peck
Burt Reynolds
Mark Wahlberg
Jason Staham
Bill Murray
Bruce Willis
Whoopi Goldberg

Even bloody John Malkovich

And probably many, many more. All did the same. And are still great actors.

phoenixrosehere · 17/02/2022 13:39

And definitely wasn’t the same in Amityville Horror.

Greysofa · 17/02/2022 13:39

@blameless

Those who live in Wrexham and carry a torch for Ryan are especially blessed.
Absolutely! He’s part of turning around the fortunes of our club that has been badly let down over the years. I was lucky enough to spend some time with him and Rob McElhenny when they came over in October and he really is a nice guy, as is Rob. I know all fans are biased and think their club deserves the best, but at Wrexham we really have been through the mill so long live Ryan and Rob!
BlondeDogLady · 17/02/2022 13:40

@NoHunGosh

Used to give me the ick too - weird slimy teddy bear face. But after watching Deadpool and the Hitman's Bodyguard I have a rather large crush. Swoon.
This really made me laugh!

He should be handsome, but somehow he's not, because he does look like a female teddy bear.

He will probably be better looking as he ages - maybe mid 50's?

1stTimeMama · 17/02/2022 13:41

You might well be the most unreasonable I've ever known a person to be.

Ever.

Discwriter · 17/02/2022 13:41

I think he is a lovely person, but has no range as an actor. His eyes are also very close together.

affairsofdragons · 17/02/2022 13:43

I like him. He doesn't take himself too seriously and takes the P out of himself in his roles. It's deliberate. He's not doing high drama, and that's fine; he's an entertainer.

I also enjoy his fake feud with Hugh Jackman.

TheSongAboutMe · 17/02/2022 13:45
