Ryan Reynolds

I am so bored today, so I was chatting about film recommendations with someone. I love action films, and a few with Ryan Reynolds were mentioned, and he seems to pop up in a load of them just now. AIBU to think Ryan Reynolds is a terrible actor? I can’t stand him, and he acts like he is playing the same character in every film, and his voice is intensely irritating. He ruins every film he’s in, and I don’t know why he annoys me so much, but I just don’t get why he’s so popular. He gives me the ick. Is it just me?

I used to read these gossip blogs who said Ryan was actually quite a depressed sort when married to Scarjo and couldn't deal with her out working. He seems happy with Blake who doesn't have much of a career than being stunning

Amortentia · 17/02/2022 13:46

@SamphiretheStickerist Actually, I love Michael Caine and think he's underrated. He is great in the Man who would be King, Deathtrap, Educating Rita and Dirty, rotten scoundrels.

@phoenixrosehere

And definitely wasn’t the same in Amityville Horror.
Came to say exactly this! Completely different. Good film.
mydogisthebest · 17/02/2022 13:47

I like him and think he is very good looking.

I have liked quite a few of his films and find them funny

Calennig · 17/02/2022 13:48

I like him - find him very watchable but I do agree he hasn't so far shown the greatest range as an actor.

OnwardsAndSideways1 · 17/02/2022 13:49

I don't think I've ever seen a film with him in, so googled him. He's made the most of what God gave him is the politest way to put it (fake tan, white teeth, works out, without those he really wouldn't be a looker)...that makes him quite clever as many teen actors never make the transition.

ElliotGoss · 17/02/2022 13:49

"Heshouldbe handsome, but somehow he's not, because he does look like afemaleteddy bear"
This made me laugh out loud. He looks so generic. Like if they made a handsome american actor by committee.

Saucery · 17/02/2022 13:49

Deadpool
Aviation Gin
Wrexham FC

3 reasons why he can make as many samey films as he likes imo.

AStar98 · 17/02/2022 13:51

You clearly haven't watched The Amityville Horror Grin

Louisianagumbo · 17/02/2022 13:52

@TheSongAboutMe

I don't know what 🤡 means so I'm going to take it that it means you agree with me 100%. 🙂🙃🙂

mydogisthebest · 17/02/2022 13:52

The way you feel about Ryan is the way I feel about Rebel Wilson. She can't act and most of her films are absolute shit

SiobhanSharpe · 17/02/2022 13:53

Actually, I think he can (or could) act a bit -- an early thriller with Denzel set in South Africa was quite good, before he became more gurny and all the mugging to camera.
But he's easy on the eye and generally plays likeable characters.
But beware -- The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard (sequel to the Hitman's BG] is truly, truly terrible. Incoherent, chaotic and reliant solely on constant motherfuckery for laughs. (They all scream it at each other every few seconds)

Saucery · 17/02/2022 13:53

Like if they made a handsome american actor by committee.

He does play on that, though. I used to get him mixed up with Ryan Gosling until I watched Deadpool.

FirewomanSam · 17/02/2022 13:53

Yeah he definitely does just play Ryan Reynolds in everything he does (even when he plays Pikachu) but I don’t care because I love him Grin

FatOaf · 17/02/2022 13:54

Never mind his movies (I've never seen one). What happened to the Wrexham sign by the A483? It was a fabulous landmark.

Gizacluethen · 17/02/2022 13:55

I like him, he seems like a nice guy that enjoys his work and I tend to like films that don't take themselves too seriously.

schnubbins · 17/02/2022 13:56

I thought it was really funny when he said people were so scared of gluten/carbs nowadays in LA that you could rob a bank with a loaf of bread .He wasn't wrong either.

AryaStarkWolf · 17/02/2022 13:57

@Pyri

He does indeed play the same character in every film but I really like the character he does play!

So YABU on that basis. I like him and Blake Lively together too.

Yeah was just coming in to post this Grin It's not even a character he plays either, it's just himself
Hobbesmanc · 17/02/2022 13:58

I've just finished Stanley Tucci's semi biography Taste (great read about his relationship with food and his childhood and his cancer battle) He's close friends with Ryan who was a massive support through his cancer. Sounds like a smashing chap

HelloFrostyMorning · 17/02/2022 13:58

YABU.

LOADS of actors and ACTRESSES, play very similar roles.

Ryan is really good. IMO.

GrouchyKiwi · 17/02/2022 13:59

@Louisianagumbo

And don't get me started on that great plank of wood known as Chris Hemsworth!
Shock How very dare you!
SirChenjins · 17/02/2022 14:02

Oh Chris Hemsworth is a terrible actor! Very easy on the eye and seems lovely in interviews, but wooden as a top Grin

Classica · 17/02/2022 14:03

I don't hate him but I wouldn't seek one of his films out either. He's very Generic Handsome B Actor. Always has an eyebrow raised too.

The main thing I find irritating about him is that he thinks he's such a wit on social media. Having said that however, I did like when Chris Pratt (aptly named) tried to copy Reynold's social media shtick by poking fun at his own wife and it fell flatter than a giant pancake.

Reynolds isn't as bad as Pratt is a glowing as I can get.

BulletTrain · 17/02/2022 14:05

I am annoyed with him for dumping Alanis.

SiobhanSharpe · 17/02/2022 14:06

I like him too -- he's developed from cockney Alfie in the 60s via Zulu, the Ipcress Files, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hannah and her Sisters, the Cider House Rules, Batman, and Harry Brown. He has two Oscars for Best Supporting Actor.
