To think fully grown men shouldn't need to pee in the street

I've just had the joy of looking out of my front room window to see a man had pulled his car up (into private spaces that are designated for the flats on our road) and relieved himself into the space. I saw everything

For context we are not rural! It's a long residential road that runs parallel to a main road, which is opposite the centre of town. Busy with cars and pedestrians, and opposite a long row of houses like mine. This was also less than a metre from the pavement, so a poor unsuspecting pedestrian would behave got an eyeful.
I also know that that space belongs to a family with three young children and he's just filled it with his piss in broad daylight.
So AIBU to think a fully grown man should at least be able to hold it until they get to a McDonald's or something.

I've seen plenty of runners, male and female, urinating when caught short.

up against a wall or on a pavement in a residential street? I'm a runner. I have only ever seen that behind boulders on fell runs, or behind bushes/trees on cross country. I've been running for around 35 years and it is not a feature of of urban running i've seen

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 16/02/2022 17:15

Really surprised by the amount of people trying to justify this. There's no excuse for anyone to do this, especially the disgusting tosser who the OP saw as seems it was just because he felt like it.

I do remember this happening a lot when I was a kid as I remember my dad ranting about men peeing in public, usually at play parks etc where they seemed to be teaching their kids that it's perfectly acceptable to piss where they felt like. I also remember a lot of parents letting their kids pee right outside the doors to the shopping centre when there were plenty of toilets available inside. It was absolutely vile and they never showed even the slightest bit of shame. No wonder we have a generation of kids that grew up thinking it's fine to pee on the street.

BuddhaForMary · 16/02/2022 17:26

@MightyFishwife

They’re pure trash, OP. You’ll get women excusing it (as well as the men, obvs) but it’s male territory-marking — they’re literally pissing their entitlement wherever they feel like it.
100% this.

We also have an issue with spitting where I live but it's apparently ok because it's cultural. It's bloody disgusting that's what it is. Cultural my arse. And they're all men who do that too.

notacooldad · 16/02/2022 17:43

Prostate problems are vvvv common as you get older. As you get older you can not wait. Yabu.
So it’s ok to piss up against the window of River Island in the mall on a busy Saturday afternoon?
I don’t think so!

TravellingFrom · 16/02/2022 17:56

@londonrach

Except that you don’t see 70yo men pissing on a wall like this. They are 30ish yo …. So the prostate issue doesn’t bear.

Women also have any issue. Just think about stress incontinence so common after childbirth, wo going into getting old. They don’t go round pissing on walls either.

If you have a medical, issue, nit controlled with medication, then you need to do something about it. You wear a nappy/tena, just like I do (and I’m not even 50yo….).
You have a bottle with you so you can piss in your car Wo being in full view of everyone. Because you know, medical issue or no, who wants it be flashing children/women etc…. In the middle of an estate or a town centre?? (Unless it’s your think but then I thought it was illegal?)
And because it’s a medical issue, you have plenty of warning so you get organised. Like knowing where the nearest toilets are. Just like many people with faecal incontinence do.

It’s not hard and using illness as an excuse for bad behaviour I think is crap. Hundred of people do have genuine issues with incontinence both urine and faecal and they manage.

Yes, when running in the countryside etc… There is also the runner shit.

And they all try hard to hide as much as possible.

But that’s not what we are talking about here is it?

balalake · 16/02/2022 17:58

If you know you have continence issues you seek to manage them. No excuse.

TravellingFrom · 16/02/2022 17:58

Sorry @Brefugee, I wasn’t having a go at you!

TrashyPanda · 16/02/2022 18:10

Out for a walk in the country and need to pee?
You find a bush/tree etc. totally fine. There are no alternative.

In a built-up area - nope.

I’ve seen loads of men peeing in public and not giving a damn, but not a single woman. Funny, isn’t it? You would almost think that women are less likely to be incontinent, have UTIs, have babies pressing on their bladder etc.

oh no, wait a minute…

It is because it is not socially acceptable for women to pee in public, so we don’t.

I had a fibroid the size of a watermelon pressing down on my bladder and somehow managed not to pee in public.

TheHaka · 16/02/2022 18:26

I’ve seen quite a bit of it just lately, especially in the town. You could’ve taken his photo & he’d get done for indecent exposure.

I often did it when I was younger & was pissed, but I lived rural so wasn’t seen by anyone. That is apart from when the police got me in their headlights.

But in saying that if I was a man I’d probably do it as I have problems holding it, I just make sure I know where the toilet is wherever I go.

FOJN · 16/02/2022 18:50

People get caught short sometimes but some discretion is required if you need to pee somewhere other than a toilet. On a residential street with no attempt to conceal yourself can hardly be described as discreet, it's exhibitionism.

The amount of excuses made here for men is staggering. Urgency due to menopause took me completely by surprise but I have yet to squat down in the street to pee.

MabelsApron · 16/02/2022 18:52

Only on bloody MN would you get hoardes of people immediately going, MEDICAL CONDITION!!!! to excuse pissing in the damn street.

If medical conditions were the cause of this then it’d largely be older men and women of all ages doing it. It’s not. It’s young men thinking they’re entitled to use public spaces as personal toilets.

(It starts young, too. Ever noticed how many young boys are allowed to pee wherever they want whereas young girls just have to hang on cos it’s not ladylike/dignified?)

UserWithNoUserName · 16/02/2022 19:14

If you really have n choice but to piss in public, surely its better to find a bush or somewhere more discrete than someones parking space.

If you genuinely worked in such an area and dealt with incontinence I’m very surprised that a) you are erroneously referring to it as a continence management method as opposed to what some people are describing which is urgent unavoidable situations which happen because the continence management methods are ineffective, b) you’re referring to it as piss / pissing, c) you’re referring to people who are struggling to manage their continence as ‘dirty’.
A) read again - I did say to another poster that urgency shouldn’t be managed as if is incontinence
B) That is what it is. I don’t need to use medical terms on an internet forum.
C) I’m referring to continent men who can’t be arsed to find a toilet and who instead piss in car parks as dirty. That is an accurate description. They are. Dirty bastards.

The vast, vast majority of men pissing is public have no medical justification.

People who do have medical issues try hard to avoid doing that.

And those that cannot avoid it are being failed by the health service and need to persist. There is no continence service that would make peeing in the street part of the plan. And if it was socially unacceptable to do so, more people would persist in seeking medical support that actually works.

I’m torn as to whether to report your responses to @Juliauns91 because they’re bang out of order but the fact that you haven’t even read their post properly before telling them how awful they are for not sorting their DH’s continence out, lest people think he’s dirty, probably undermines it enough anyway.
Ah sorry I misread her post and thought it was her son.

Abigail12345654321 · 16/02/2022 19:53

Mind you the uk has a weird attitude to all things toilet related. In other countries it’s entirely acceptable to walk into a cafe or bar to use the loo. No issue. No ‘customer use only’ signs. And vastly more public loos.

We need some serious changes in that respect. Life is impossibly difficult if you have severe crohns or ulcerative colitis and having people tutting if you try and use a loo is mental. No idea why that attitude exists but it should be made law that anyone can access toilets of any public premises and there should be public toilets everywhere!

L0stinCyberspace · 16/02/2022 19:57

Male privilege 100%

GalactatingGoddess · 16/02/2022 20:04

Many are missing the point - it's not that he had to pee urgently it's that he did it so brazenly with his penis out for all to see. He could have found a more private location.

Women don't go around peeing in the street as regularly as you see men doing it. It's actually vile that a child may be passing by and see an adults penis. Makes me feel gross.

StoneofDestiny · 16/02/2022 20:11

Revolting - if they have a problem they can take a bottle to piss in, avoid long journeys or stop regularly at cafe's etc. just exposing yourself and pissing on the street in full view of everybody isn't acceptable at all.

PurpleCarpets · 16/02/2022 20:11

More public toilets needed. I pee in public too, albeit not standing up, and I don't display my dick Grin

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 16/02/2022 20:18

More public toilets needed
Well yes, but that's unlikely to stop this situation. There were very likely toilets available, given it was a built up area and yet he chose to do this. Why? How often do women, who are far more likely to have incontinence problems, do this? At our very most desperate we find a bush and hope for the best.

This is territory marking, animal, male attempt to dominate. Sheer entitled behaviour at best and voyeuristic to intimidate at worst.

I am in no way at all surprised to see the usual men's rights activists weighing in with bollocks about medical need.

I mean more public toilets are needed for the decent folk who actually get caught short or have medical difficulties.

It won’t prevent the knobs but it does mean we will stop excusing the knobs on the basis that they might have medical issues!

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 16/02/2022 21:05

Yes absolutely agree there should be more public toilets. Particularly ones you can fit a pram in etc.
However, I don't think the entitlement or.the defence of this behaviour will ever stop if such a thing happened. Which it won't. As more public loos would largely effect women positively.
Men will just continue to piss in the street and the only way we'll ever get investment in public toilets is if they fit them with free porn or something.

Feelingoktoday · 16/02/2022 21:26

Amazing the number of women who think it’s fine that men just piss in the street. I think it’s worse now as in the past they would try to be discrete now you drive past a lay-by and blokes just standing there dicks on full show!

It’s dirty. They don’t wash their hands. Piss on their hands and then use the petrol pumps.

Free porn eh? Now there’s an idea. Not keen on porn but if it would keep them contained …..think how lovely the world would be!
