Virginia Guiffre and Andrew settle out of court

Suzanne999 · 15/02/2022 16:15

From Metro
Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached a ‘settlement in principle’ in the civil sex claim filed in the US, court documents show

Does this show his guilt? Water down in some way his actions? I’m sure some will say this proves she was only in it for the money. I think she and a lot of underage girls were abused but because of the wealth involved those guilty will never face justice. Can’t understand why I feel sad about this outcome.

You can't add third parties to contracts without them being a party to that contract.

You might just about get away with one or two named people (though they'd have to know about it and sign the contract too) but not a blanket term.

For a contract to be valid there has to be "consideration" (usually money) and PA was not party to the contract and didn't not provide any known consideration.

I bet Epstein told them all he'd got it covered though and I bet they all paid towards it!

BreadInCaptivity · 16/02/2022 14:53

Matlis was great in that interview no doubt, but if I'm honest I think any half decent journalist would have got a similar result.

Maybe not quite so "wtf have I just watched" ShockShockShockbut damning nonetheless.

It beggars belief that he (obviously) didn't get any legal advice (or frankly any advice from anyone with half a brain) before he did it.

After I watched it I remember turning to DH and saying I'll bet VG and her legal team have just opened the champagne after watching that. He absolutely handed this settlement to them on a silver plate.

Roussette · 16/02/2022 15:06

Andrew's advisers told him not to do this interview. He ignored them. One adviser left over the matter.

The fact EM has said that PA said afterwards that it went really well... says it all.
She wrote an article on this. She knew she'd made a killing. He then took her on a tour of BP afterwards pleased as punch with how it had gone.

This article is gobsmacking, EM talking about the whole thing.

@TheKeatingFive

I feel for Shamima Begum. 15 year old is groomed and loses citizenship.17 year old is groomed and gets millions.

Holy crap I've read it all on here. I have more sympathy for Shamima Begum than your average MN, but really? You can't see the difference between her situation and actions and Giuffre? Are you a bit challenged in your thinking or something, because that comparison is actually insane.

At least I'm not insufferably rude.

Yes I can see a connection, can't you see it, two teenage girls who were groomed, one is held to be a victim and one is a monster. Why do you think that is.

tickingthebox73 · 16/02/2022 15:19

@ParkheadParadise

Can someone on here answer my question? Just saw on the news the dirty bastard is still denying any involvement with VG!!! So why did he pay up 🤷‍♀️ is he now admitting his guilt. Next thing we know he will be out with his Mammy celebrating her jubilee.
This was not a criminal trial it was a civil one.

It was only ever about money. I know people don't want to believe this but it was simply brinksmanship to see who blinked first.

There is no relationship to right and wrong, this has been settled with neither PA admitting anything, nor VG being required to prove anything.

Paying up does not equal admitting guilt. It makes it go away.

Monopolyiscrap · 16/02/2022 15:19

I love this.

Virginia Guiffre and Andrew settle out of court
Monopolyiscrap · 16/02/2022 15:20

Of course paying £10-12 million indicates guilt.

ancientgran · 16/02/2022 15:22

@Ponoka7

"Cue lots and lots of pics of Kate in pretty frocks, William schmoozing the masses, etc, etc."

Meghan was in the papers today. A 'source' has said that she doesn't care about coming back to the UK because we are a lost cause. It's a two pronged cover up.

Pretty poor cover up as it isn't covering it up if you read the papers or watch the news. I think Andrew, Ukraine, Jubilee are all doing wonders for covering up partygate. Johnson must be thrilled.
TheKeatingFive · 16/02/2022 15:24

At least I'm not insufferably rude.

You deserved every bit of that. I honestly can't believe you straightfacedly made that connection.

Yes I can see a connection, can't you see it, two teenage girls who were groomed

one is held to be a victim and one is a monster.

Why do you think that is.

Because of the bit in the middle. What each of them did after the grooming and before the media presentation. Did you forget that teeny, tiny detail?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/02/2022 15:24

Blinkmanship surely…

derxa · 16/02/2022 15:31

@bubblesbubbles11

"Well, apparently both women (and the ghastly Ferguson) are convinced of his innocence. Who can explain that."

PA is their lifelong meal ticket.

And they are of absolutely ZERO consequence to PA who only sees them as useful in his "What about ME and my family?" conversations he has with the Queen.

Don't be ridiculous

Have you actually read and taken in anything on this thread? The expediency and financial advantages of a settlement have been explained numerous times.
TheKeatingFive · 16/02/2022 15:34

The expediency and financial advantages of a settlement have been explained numerous times.

Of a settlement, perhaps.

Of a settlement of 12 million, no not really.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/02/2022 15:37

Charles also made a thing of being seen walking to Church with him

I think the excuse was that they went earlier to avoid the crowds/paps, though of course Charles could just not have gone with him at all

Then again, if we're talking about a taste for friendships with paedophiles, Charles seems no better than his brother

Roussette · 16/02/2022 15:45

Well... never mind.... breaking news, statement from Met Police... yet another cash for honours scandal with Charles's charity. Or is it the same one, I have no idea, there are too many.

Needless to say, the Met have just put out a statement.

Gawd bless 'em ... Queen's kids are making it a very special platinum jubilee for her aren't they... Hmm

I thought about you when I heard it on the news at 11am @Roussette. It’s taken you a lot longer to gleefully leap on it than I thought it would. 😂
Roussette · 16/02/2022 15:49

Blossom I like to be a bit laid back and hit at the right time hehe

No glee here, I promise you.

Disgust. Yes.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/02/2022 15:49

My thoughts exactly, Roussette; I couldn't quite see why they were investigating this again, but maybe it's another one?

Sounds like a thorough enquiry's needed into the whole thing, except it'll never happen - and even if one was promised they'd shoehorn in someone "sound" to run it

Monopolyiscrap · 16/02/2022 15:51

@Blossomtoes You are always patronising when someone does not agree with you.
Yes I have read yours and others comments. I do not agree that an innocent man with top lawyers pays out £10 - £12 million in a settlement.

Roussette · 16/02/2022 15:52

If it's another one, I'm taking to the streets! This is ridiculous, it really is.

Just waiting for deny deny deny and some rushed out photo op somewhere.
There was a ridiculous article this morning about a royal butler who danced with the queen and burbled on about how wonderful they all were.

Blossomtoes · 16/02/2022 15:57

You are always patronising when someone does not agree with you

I am, aren’t I? And sometimes even when someone does agree with me. 😊

LottyD32 · 16/02/2022 15:58

@VanCleefArpels

Weaknesses in her case:

Above age of consent in the jurisdiction in which incidents occurred
She was involved in “recruiting” other girls so arguably a “trafficker” (using same principle that led to Maxwell’s conviction)
Lack of primary corroborated evidence

They were likely to go big on the second of these at trial so was always likely to settle.

I've also seen interviews with her boyfriend at the time who said she was in it for the money and chose to keep going back there when they wanted money for things and holidays.
Monopolyiscrap · 16/02/2022 15:58

@Blossomtoes not a trait I admire.

Hahaaaaa!

To be fair @Monopolyiscrap, generally you deserve it.
More so on this thread than most others.

Monopolyiscrap · 16/02/2022 16:00

@LottyD32 you know some of the girls in Rotherham still did not think they were victims even after the men were sent to jail?

Why are you expecting an ex-boyfriend talking to the press to recognise what grooming looks like, when so many people on MN do not?
