Virginia Guiffre and Andrew settle out of court

Suzanne999 · 15/02/2022 16:15

From Metro
Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached a ‘settlement in principle’ in the civil sex claim filed in the US, court documents show

Does this show his guilt? Water down in some way his actions? I’m sure some will say this proves she was only in it for the money. I think she and a lot of underage girls were abused but because of the wealth involved those guilty will never face justice. Can’t understand why I feel sad about this outcome.

I think she gets a settlement and another sum is donated to charity.

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/02/2022 16:31

God he’s disgusting.

nancy75 · 15/02/2022 16:31

That pic above reads like she gets money & he’s paying some to charity?

spacehardware · 15/02/2022 16:31

We will almost certainly never know the terms of the settlement - she could have agreed to discontinue; he could have agreed to pay her eleventy billion dollars (and a pony); or it was somewhere in the middle

drpet49 · 15/02/2022 16:31

Well didn’t take long for her to sell out did it.

TokyoSushi · 15/02/2022 16:31

Ugh

nancy75 · 15/02/2022 16:32

Presumably she’s agreed never to speak about it again?

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 15/02/2022 16:32

@TerraNovaTwo

I'm not saying he's not guilty, but Giuffre has 'lost' primary damning evidence against Andrew - the photo in which he has his arm wrapped around her 17 year old self. That's the likely reason she has been forced to settle out of court.
I agree. No photo means she can’t ever prove it’s not been photoshopped, which seemed to be his defence.
BadgerStripes · 15/02/2022 16:32

Genuinely don't understand why he would make a 'settlement' if he is innocent? If it was me I would want to go to court to fight it. Can someone with knowledge of the law give your opinion, as it doesn't make any sense to me.

AndAsIfByMagic · 15/02/2022 16:32

It was always going to happen.

They pushed and pushed until it threatened to ruin the Queen's jubilee to get maximum payout.

Evidence that the photo was fake has been around for a while.

He was a lecherous old goat but, even if he did have sex with her, she wasn't underage.

She's still being used and abused by men but now they are lawyers.

Let's hope that's an end to it.

Chloemol · 15/02/2022 16:32

She hasn’t got the evidence having ‘lost’ it

Not sure i have ever believed her anyway, I think she knew exactly what she was doing and is now after money

That said he is a arrogant twat who believed he could do what he wanted

Peakypolly · 15/02/2022 16:32

Does this mean he can now be wheeled out on ceremonial occasions again?Envy (not envy)

thinking123 · 15/02/2022 16:33

At least he's "ruined" publicly. People will now always assume he paid her off and he guilty so his public life is over.

If it had gone to court and he had won he would probably have been allowed to become a public figure again

Chloemol · 15/02/2022 16:33

I also hope he is not allowed to resume duties

Porfre · 15/02/2022 16:33

Unfortunately it dossnt look good for her.

She couldn't produce the photo- we don't know if it was faked or not, and settled. It now looks like she was just doing it for the money.

And re the money I think I read that Andrew was on his own and the Queen wasnt going to fund this- so he had to sell some of his property or something.

Re the functional adults- I'd call Prince Edward and Princess Anne pretty functional

Probably because it would cost them a lot more financially and in terms of reputation, with the same outcome likely (no one being a winner).

God no, he's finished

GrazingSheep · 15/02/2022 16:33

Will his royal status be restored now?

AlternativePerspective · 15/02/2022 16:34

I think it was always about the money for her.

RhubarbFairy · 15/02/2022 16:34

She didn't do a great job as a parent. I know you all love her, but she was not a good mother, 0/4 functional adults raised.

What's wrong with Anne and Edward?!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/02/2022 16:34

He was a lecherous old goat but, even if he did have sex with her, she wasn't underage

If she was trafficked then age doesn't come into it.

Lockdownbear · 15/02/2022 16:34

I believe that he had sex with her. But I doubt she would have been able to prove he knew she was trafficked.

Wise decision for all concerned the lawyers would have ripped them both apart. He's not got much else too loose his names muck, she has everything to loose.

spacehardware · 15/02/2022 16:34

I'm not surprised he wanted to make it go away though - next stage was deposition - absolutely brutal process we don't have in civil litigation. In England and Wales you prepare a witness statement setting out your factual evidence and send it to the other side (and they send you theirs). Deposition is more like being cross examined in court.

Bet he would have started sweating and the jig would have been up

Will they though? You only need to read this thread to see there are mixed views.
Innocenta · 15/02/2022 16:34

@Marcipex
