Virginia Guiffre and Andrew settle out of court

Suzanne999 · 15/02/2022 16:15

From Metro
Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached a ‘settlement in principle’ in the civil sex claim filed in the US, court documents show

Does this show his guilt? Water down in some way his actions? I’m sure some will say this proves she was only in it for the money. I think she and a lot of underage girls were abused but because of the wealth involved those guilty will never face justice. Can’t understand why I feel sad about this outcome.

EXCLUSIVE: The Duke of York will pay his accuser more than £12 million using money from the Queen

The Telegraph “understands”

Journalist speak for “someone told us this and we can’t verify the source but fuck it we will print it anyway so we have an “exclusive”

There is absolutely no way they can verify any of it.

ClaudineClare · 15/02/2022 23:26

The evening would have included lots of young girls who could have paired up with older men, this has been going on for decades

That is all fine and dandy then. Presumably you would be OK with your vulnerable teenage daughter being sexually exploited by much older men @Molly499?

Helendee · 15/02/2022 23:28

Where is the actual evidence that he knew she had been trafficked ( if indeed she had)?
I’ve never been able to get my head around this case to be honest. I’m no fan of PA, can’t stand him but I would like to see proof that he was having sex with an unwilling partner.
Does VG claim that he forcibly raped her, did she physically fight him off?
None of it makes a lot of sense, who knows what really happened and I’m on nobody’s side here.

Moneypennysfreedomfund · 15/02/2022 23:28

I’d say there may very well be others, I am fairly convinced he did do what he was accused of…. If there are others I hope they go for the jugular…. It feels very much like he was forced to capitulate to save Mummy’s celebrations ….. no one in the Royal Family appears to be bothered by the truth just paying up, keeping him in mothballls until his dying day, and hoping this scandal goes away, it’s revolting. Why would anyone pay up if they were innocent …

Katie2017 · 15/02/2022 23:29

@ClaudineClare I haven't followed the case that closely, where were the parents of this vulnerable teenager?

BoredZelda · 15/02/2022 23:29

Royal Lodge doesn’t cost the taxpayer anything.
So it funds itself how?

Prince Andrew bought out the 75 year lease when he paid for its renovation in 2003. Any upkeep and maintenance comes out of his own pocket.

I think if there were others at least a couple of them would have come forward by now.

How come JE got away with only having to pay out £500k when he was worrh £500m. Something is not quite right there.

neveradullmoment99 · 15/02/2022 23:32

@MaggieMooh

Very disappointing. Yet again the rich get away with disgusting criminal behaviour because they can afford to hire lawyers and pay off their accuser.
Where's the money coming from to pay her? Its absolutely disgusting if it is taxpayers money.

What income stream? He's still getting a cut of the SG for example.

Not in her life. She was in and out of foster care and then living on the streetsat 14.

supermoonrising · 15/02/2022 23:34

Her “day in court” may have ended with some other powerful people being name dropped. Perhaps she was worried she may not have made it to her “day in court” at all. Better to take the cash and sign an agreement.

So you think that journalists could routinely reveal the identities of sources?

But of course the Queen will be paying the settlement. How else could Andrew pay it?

Good job he managed to sell his ski chalet recently

supermoonrising · 15/02/2022 23:39

It’s certainly a good outcome that extremely rich and powerful men may now need to reconsider that their extreme wealth and power alone does not give them complete immunity to “have fun” with girls/young women who may be trafficked and/or under the age of consent. This at least is a good outcome.

Brainwave89 · 15/02/2022 23:39

On the basis of what PA said- He did not regret being friends with a paedophile or a convicted people trafficker. He felt Epstein had “let the side down” by his activities and then came up with stories about attending a party at Pizza Express and not being able to sweat. There will be clear tracked records of where a royal personage is, and were he innocent it would be quite easy to prove. Draw your own conclusions.

ClareBlue · 15/02/2022 23:39

Next up the constitutional lawyer who makes PA look like a empathetic decent human in comparison. I've never given to a gofundme page but if it supported action against him, then I would.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 15/02/2022 23:41

@AlternativePerspective

I think it was always about the money for her.
And what if it was? It's a civil case not a criminal one, meaning he was never going to be found guilty and she was never going to achieve 'justice'.

Monetary settlements are standard in civil cases: not as punitive damages but as restitution for harm done. The ill-advised statue of limitations in US law means civil courts were - and were always going to be - her only recourse, unless Windsor was stupid enough to talk and further incriminate himself.

In addition, if he's offered her a higher settlement than she could reasonably expect to be granted in court she will be strongly advised to accept it.

But no, it's all about the victim-blaming and accusing her of being a grasping, mercenary female. She was trafficked. What motivated her is completely bloody irrelevant.

Monopolyiscrap · 15/02/2022 23:41

@BlanketsBanned

That will pay for his lawyers fees. It is not enough to pay this settlement.
Katie2017 · 15/02/2022 23:43

@ClaudineClare Ah I see, that is such a shame, as I say had no idea of her background, she was indeed very vulnerable and taken advantage of.

margotnotrobbie · 15/02/2022 23:44

No wonder he put the Swiss Chalet up for sale. To help recoup this bill. Afterall he can always spend his holidays at his connections or families Chalet.
