Virginia Guiffre and Andrew settle out of court

Suzanne999 · 15/02/2022 16:15

From Metro
Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached a ‘settlement in principle’ in the civil sex claim filed in the US, court documents show

Does this show his guilt? Water down in some way his actions? I’m sure some will say this proves she was only in it for the money. I think she and a lot of underage girls were abused but because of the wealth involved those guilty will never face justice. Can’t understand why I feel sad about this outcome.

@dipdye

Wonder how much

Bloody Royals

£7.5m according to the DM.
RestingMurderousFace · 15/02/2022 18:57

What, Andrew?

Edward, surely. Allegedly. Wink

Lochroy · 15/02/2022 18:59

@tulippa

Disappointing that any truth will continue to be hidden. Everyone will just assume Prince Andrew is guilty (he must be hiding something if he is prepared to pay out to stop a court case). Victoria Guiffre does not get proper justice. Lose lose all round.

My thoughts exactly

Danja2010 · 15/02/2022 19:01
@Danja2010 - he was not being sued for trafficking though abd no criminal proceedings have (yet) been brought.

And I do think it relevant to point out that had VG’s situation as a victim been more clear cut she would have been called at Maxwell’s trial to testify against her. She was not because the prosecution knew that Maxwell’s defence team would have argued VG’s complicity in the trafficking of others (and just to clarify by saying that I’m not endorsing it or saying it’s true or supporting Maxwell or anything for the avoidance of any doubt)
There is no question that she was groomed and abused since the age of 15 . Why do you think that Epstein was convicted ?
The Maxwell trial used the better victims for Maxwell’s conviction.
I wish people here would quit victim shaming. Virginia’s grooming started at 15 . It was written about in more detail in US magazines and newspapers that has a better journalistic repute than some of the tabloids here.

FourBookPiles · 15/02/2022 19:02

There are loads of reasons for settling claims that are nothing to do with admissions of guilt:

 • save time and expense, sometimes cheaper to settle than fight.
 • to bring matters to a head sooner and not have it hanging over you for years.
 • desire not to wash your dirty linen in public.
 • flexibility.

I’m not saying he’s innocent, I don’t know either way. Just saying lots of reasons to settle even if you’re in a strong position to fight.

Classicblunder · 15/02/2022 19:02

Lots of people who run charities draw a salary. What’s your (thinly veiled) point?

I think it's more than fine for people who work in the charity sector to draw salaries and decent ones that reflect their skills.

But I think if she has a financial interest in the charity's success, the line between her receiving the settlement and the charity receiving it is a bit fuzzy.

Verbena17 · 15/02/2022 19:03

Pretty sure Ghislaine will have already sung like a canary....that’ll hopefully be more damning evidence for those who are guilty.

CleansUpButWouldPreferNotTo · 15/02/2022 19:04
@Blossomtoes - I stand corrected, maybe not the richest woman in the world anymore. But still not true that she has little personal wealth. Forbes rates her as 372 in the world in terms of riches. She is not hurting and has plenty of personal wealth. But as the fire at Windsor showed, is not averse to asking the tax payer to pay when she can. And actively tries to suppress info getting out about her wealth.
No, 372 on UK list, not world list.

Over the past couple of years however, her ranking on the Sunday Times Rich List has dropped - with the royal sliding down nearly 30 places since 2018. The recently published 2020 rankings see the Queen take 372nd place with an estimated net worth in the hundreds of millions.18 May 2020

@Duntelchaig

Her principles didn’t last long. I can’t believe she did this!

I can!

SecretKeeper1 · 15/02/2022 19:06

I wonder why she never sued Trump, Clinton, Gates and the other 4 or 5 men who had it all hushed up years ago? Why only Andrew?

He's an easy target
13yearslater · 15/02/2022 19:07

Back in the day he was known as Randy Andy.

Media knew, everyone in his circle knew. A bit like Savile - the BBC knew.
(Nick Robinson on Today berrates anyone he can get his hands on re the Keir Starmer slur? Give me a break. The Fault for allowing paedophile Savile to continue his abuse lies squarely with his employer the BBC. They KNEW. But it was the norm - you fuck what you can get away with and if anyone finds out you ignore.)

And then Randy Andy is outed....hold the front page? Ha. Everyone KNEW. Hollywood pricks like Spacey, Presidents like Clinton, Royals like Randy Andy, Tampon-King Charles stuck their dicks in anyone they fancied - that's what dysfunctional, wealthy entitled people do. They wouldn't have seen it as 'trafficking' or 'cheating on my wife'. Nooooo.. they think they're waay above that sort of common crap. Sticking their dicks in anyone they want isn't. Because they're worth it. And misunderstood, and burdened with wealth/fame/royal status.

Diddums.

VanCleefArpels · 15/02/2022 19:08

Epstein’s conviction was not in relation to VG though. Epstein was most definitely a paedophile who was allowed by the very powerful he broke bread with to get away with it(day release from prison FFS). Maxwell was complicit in this and rightly prosecuted and found guilty. VG was caught up in all this and did recruit others at their instruction. We will never know her psychological state at that time. She now obviously she’s herself as the victim of wrongdoing. I’ve never said otherwise. All I’ve said is that there are shades of grey here

SoupDragon · 15/02/2022 19:08

@Burnshersmurfs

The statement he has been forced to release as part of this settlement literally says that she was not lying. That means, for the hard of thinking here, he admits that she was telling the truth. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to wonder this, but if I am allowed to wonder, then I would wonder how much the British taxpayer is also being asked to pay for a whole bunch of people released on to social media to defend him and drag her name through the mud again. I won’t wonder that, though, because I’m probably not allowed.
I can't find that in the statement.
Viviennemary · 15/02/2022 19:09

Not a very satisfactory end IMHO.

Verbena17 · 15/02/2022 19:09

@Georgyporky. Whilst 17 isn’t underage for consensual sex in the UK, forced sex with anyone and anyone who has been trafficked....different story.
Child & human trafficking is the second most profitable criminal activity in the United States....second only to illegal drugs.
You should check out Operation Underground Railroad and the amazing rescue work they do around the world.

KatherineJaneway · 15/02/2022 19:10

All I know is if my reputation was on the line I would do anything to get the truth out regardless of what it cost me personally

But it isn't just him personally on the line, is it? It is the Queen and the Royal family a fact VG knew and exploited to its fullest.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 15/02/2022 19:13

I'm with you @Innocenta (and others) Some of the posts on this thread make me feel sick.

She was undeniably trafficked, groomed and abused. She has been unbelievably courageous and strong and I admire her for her bravery and tenacity.

The misogynistic,victim shaming, rape apologist comments on here are revolting, and extremely depressing. People making these comments about a woman who has been trafficked and abused should be ashamed.

Women deserve better. Our daughters deserve better than this.

CleansUpButWouldPreferNotTo · 15/02/2022 19:14

@Ontheblink

She is certainly not poor and knew exactly what her filthy son was up to. No sympathy for her at all
Seriously? HM Queen 'knew exactly what her filthy son was up to'?

Head needs a wobble..

EmpressCixi · 15/02/2022 19:15

But as the fire at Windsor showed, is not averse to asking the tax payer to pay

But the Queen doesn’t own Windsor castle? We own it and the monarch gets a lifetime lease of it. So of course we’d pay for maintenance just like any other landlord would.

The Queen only owns Balmoral Castle and Sandringham Estate.

heelforheelandtoefortoe · 15/02/2022 19:18

I think he's guilty of nothing other than making the wrong friends.

Innocenta · 15/02/2022 19:18

@WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles Thank you. The extent of the victim blaming is definitely beyond what I would have expected.

dottydodah · 15/02/2022 19:20

I think it is a disappointing outcome .Although not a great surprise sadly. At 17 VG was not a Minor its true,however she was taken advantage of by rich older men .Now no chance to have her day in court that she wanted. The trouble with all these wealthy men ,is that they just look at beautiful young girls like chattels to be bought .I feel for the Queen in all this .Andrew seems remarkably immature to me .72 teddies all lined up is probably more than most children have!

Danja2010 · 15/02/2022 19:21

Can I please point out that Andrew was still friends and hanging out with Epstein after Epstein was convicted and guilty of grooming and sexual abuse ..went to prison no less ? !!!!
There was other evidence, not just the photo, that he was with her and had relations with her. Sadly, with abuse victims they always have to prove more and somehow better that these things happened.
Yet, we have people here that are still trying to make Virginia guilty of “ money grabbing “ and worse.
I find it quite shocking.

notwavingbutdrowning5 · 15/02/2022 19:22

of course we’d pay for maintenance just like any other landlord would

Not quite like any other landlord though. The Queen doesn't pay any rent for Windsor Castle. Win-win for her.
