Virginia Guiffre and Andrew settle out of court

Suzanne999 · 15/02/2022 16:15

From Metro
Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre have reached a ‘settlement in principle’ in the civil sex claim filed in the US, court documents show

Does this show his guilt? Water down in some way his actions? I’m sure some will say this proves she was only in it for the money. I think she and a lot of underage girls were abused but because of the wealth involved those guilty will never face justice. Can’t understand why I feel sad about this outcome.

Andrew has had the best team of lawyers money could buy, MI5, the Foreign office, diplomats and royal security working behind the scenes. If that is the best deal that could be found for him there is not a shred of doubt he is a guilty as nearly everybody thinks he is.

StoneofDestiny · 15/02/2022 18:25

It is not his guilt that is in question here but hers! Nice try Fergie and girls - but what a totally embarrassing conclusion to come to.

StoneofDestiny · 15/02/2022 18:26

We paid for it, you and me, our taxes paid his hush money.
Fucking parasites the lot of them

Absolutely

Iputthetrampintrampoline · 15/02/2022 18:28

Can you imagine going back to your daughters and telling them you settled? Surely even they will be embarrassed by daddy now?

Danja2010 · 15/02/2022 18:33

@StationaryMagpie

i think he was a twat, and he should never have had anything to do with it.

that being said, i think this civil case was a joke, and a publicity stunt, and designed entirely to line her pockets and drag someone high profile through the mud.

How it was ever allowed to be filed through USA courts when she lives in Australia, and PA is british is beyond me.

The crime : trafficking. She was underage in New York . There is no age limit for trafficking. She has only a financial settlement from Epstein that was long ago and considering his wealth a pittance. The money she received in this settlement went to a charity. If you had any glance at Maxwell’s trial and the one where Epstein was convicted you would know that these two set up a very ugly trafficking ring. There is no way that any close friend of theirs was unaware . The real question is how did this go on for so long ? Bravo to Virginia for bringing this to light and also giving others the courage to come forward. Your thoughts are very victim shaming and appalling.
Malibuismysecrethome · 15/02/2022 18:33

He’s reached a settlement with her and agreed a donation to a charity. Surprise, surprise

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2022 18:34

@Classica

Mummy got her cheque book out.
It's more than that though. She'd have made a fucking fortune with books etc if she won. She was worried she wouldn't.

Absolutely

I don't think there's any evidence for this.

It can cost more in court costs to “clear your name” than it would to settle out of court

I doubt that would have been a concern for Andrew, with his access to our mummy's money, so we're mostly left with the damage to his reputation which could have resulted from any court case

Which makes perfect sense since "how things look" is all the RF appears to care about

VanCleefArpels · 15/02/2022 18:39

@Danja2010 - he was not being sued for trafficking though abd no criminal proceedings have (yet) been brought.

And I do think it relevant to point out that had VG’s situation as a victim been more clear cut she would have been called at Maxwell’s trial to testify against her. She was not because the prosecution knew that Maxwell’s defence team would have argued VG’s complicity in the trafficking of others (and just to clarify by saying that I’m not endorsing it or saying it’s true or supporting Maxwell or anything for the avoidance of any doubt)

I am genuinely curious about the charity - does Virginia Guiffre draw a salary from it? She certainly seems not to have ever had a "normal" job, though maybe she is just living on the Epstein settlement and her DH's salary

dipdye · 15/02/2022 18:46

In my opinion, he should have fought for his innocence

^^

How's that possible? When's he's as guilty as sin?

"Bravo to Virginia for bringing this to light and also giving others the courage to come forward"

^

Indeed!!

BadgerB · 15/02/2022 18:47

It's been claimed that a number of high profile Americans were in the same position re Virginia Guiffre, but paid large sums in return for a NDA.
Why, I wonder, didn't Andrew do this before anything was made public? He probably wishes he had now.

balalake · 15/02/2022 18:47

I have never liked settlements out of court, as I think it denies justice in a way.

oakleaffy · 15/02/2022 18:49

@Marcipex

Poor old queen tho.
What, Andrew? 😎
Threewheeler1 · 15/02/2022 18:49

Ugh. No justice. He makes me puke, dirty bastard.
The royals protected him for a very long time until they saw the barometer of public opinion and only acted to take his titles (not all of them) and patronages away at the last minute. They probably would have continued to harbour him if there hadn't been such a public outcry. Too much damage to the 'brand'.
They are all grim. He'll continue to receive loads of money and swan around like a useless, arrogant fucker, he'll just be less obvious now.
Would have loved to see some justice for these young women and I think it's amazing how far Guiffre got.

3peassuit · 15/02/2022 18:51

I hope other wealthy, powerful men are starting to sweat. Clinton and Trump next perhaps.

Arrogance possibly?
Burnshersmurfs · 15/02/2022 18:53

The statement he has been forced to release as part of this settlement literally says that she was not lying. That means, for the hard of thinking here, he admits that she was telling the truth. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to wonder this, but if I am allowed to wonder, then I would wonder how much the British taxpayer is also being asked to pay for a whole bunch of people released on to social media to defend him and drag her name through the mud again. I won’t wonder that, though, because I’m probably not allowed.

SockFluffInTheBath · 15/02/2022 18:53

I think it is very sad that she settled.

I agree in part. It would have been a real warning shot to have him dragged to trial. However VG has shown incredible fortitude to come this far. The huge intrusion into her personal history, her family being harassed by journalists, the time to prep this kind of court case and the strength to bear repeatedly talking about what abusive men did to your teenage self.

I am genuinely curious about the charity - does Virginia Guiffre draw a salary from it? She certainly seems not to have ever had a "normal" job, though maybe she is just living on the Epstein settlement and her DH's salary

Lots of people who run charities draw a salary. What’s your (thinly veiled) point?

NETSRIK · 15/02/2022 18:53

@Classica

Mummy got her cheque book out.
This is it in one sentence.
Innocenta · 15/02/2022 18:55

@Georgyporky

She looks so happy in THAT photo ! And she's 17, FFS - not underage in UK law.

But I still think he's a lying fucking bastard.

Commenting that she looks happy is just a horrible thing to say. I don't even have the will to dissect this in detail. It's nauseating to see this treatment of victims here on MN.
