Me and DP both do it, and ours resolved to different answers today ! I would have got his answer in 3, and he would have got mine in 3 ! Have seen reports of the ‘split site’ problem, in addition my answer was unfairly vague I think, anyone else perplexed this morning ? On a serious note, it’s given us plenty to talk about, though my brain is a bit tired 😁

Power language just redirects to the NY Times one for me now.

newbiename · 15/02/2022 12:15

@Plumpcious

I've just tried it on the NYT site and entered the word that was on the Powerlanguage site this morning, and it's the same word. Was there a glitch that's been fixed or are many people just not familiar with the word?
Same. It begins with A. Not Greek though ?
Winday · 15/02/2022 12:15

I'd love to know which Greek word it was. Please come back and tell us after today!

RonniePickering · 15/02/2022 12:16

Also like to know the Greek word.

MayEye · 15/02/2022 12:16

Yes I’m intrigued now too about this Greek word!

Ihatenicknames · 15/02/2022 12:16

SPOILER ALERT!!!!

It was AGORA.

MoltenLasagne · 15/02/2022 12:16

Well as the link i posted above is NOW linking through to the NYT site for me as well...

The Greek word was AGORA

I mean you might say you'd gone to an Agora for Greek food if you also said you'd go to a ristorante for Italian but it's just not an English word to me.

AlDanvers · 15/02/2022 12:16

The work I got, i would not call a 'Greek word'.

Its Greek in origin, but definitely common usage in English or American English.

There's got to be 2.

RonniePickering · 15/02/2022 12:17

Yes 👏🏼 Thank you.
Never heard of it.

Winday · 15/02/2022 12:18

I'd never have got that!

Iggly · 15/02/2022 12:19

My solution today was aroma… I can’t get the website to clear to try agora 😂

toomuchlaundry · 15/02/2022 12:19

I had that word, I haven't heard of it. I cheated and used a crossword solver website to give me examples of 5 letter words that had the letters I had identified

Newuser82 · 15/02/2022 12:19

Oh that's not the word I got.

HollowTalk · 15/02/2022 12:19

@Blackberrybunnet

not today's word, but fairly p*ed off abut the US spelling the other day
But it's an American website! Why should it be an English word?
Morgan12 · 15/02/2022 12:19

@AledsiPad

I've just followed the link through powerlanguage above... it was the exact same word as via the NYT link I accessed this morning. It's a perfectly normal, average word. Nothing difficult or greek about it. Confused
For you maybe
Plumpcious · 15/02/2022 12:20

The word I got today (on both sites) begins and ends with A. Google tells me the etymology of the word was originally Greek, into Latin, and then into Middle English. Maybe that's why people think it's a Greek word? Unless there was a completely Greek word in this morning's glitch.

(I suspected it might have been the MN poster who's been asking if the Greek name Asterios would be OK to name a baby in English, but that's too many letters!)

AlDanvers · 15/02/2022 12:20

Cross posted. Thank you. Yes I would call that a Greek word.

My grandfather was Greek and ita nor a word he would have used alot but, I would call it Greek. Its not common usage in English.

MouseyMoose · 15/02/2022 12:20

Yep I was on the power language site and it was Agora which I got on the 6th go as I had 4 of the letters correct so just went through and tried all the letter combos until it was right! I guessed Aroma and was sure it must be that so was seriously stuck when that was incorrect.

I have now refreshed it to the Ny times version.

QuizzlyBear · 15/02/2022 12:20

I got a word I'd never heard of today and had to Google it!

I haven't encountered a word I don't know in years...

pastabest · 15/02/2022 12:21

I just tried on both and got the same word on both.

I wouldn't say it's an easy word but it's not an unusual word.

cecilthehungryspider · 15/02/2022 12:22

Dh and I discovered we had different words today. Mine I'd never heard of! Then I realised my URL was different, I was still on the original one and he was on the NYT one but as soon as I clicked on the address mine refreshed to the NYT one.

amusedbush · 15/02/2022 12:22

Yes, I got agora (never heard of it!) in 5 after just mashing letters together because nothing else fit. Then I refreshed the page and it took me to the NY Times version, which was a different, much more common word. In fact, I tried agora again and it didn't even accept it as a word!

User0610134049 · 15/02/2022 12:22

How weird
My power language site I had been using redirected me to the nytimes one a couple of days ago.

It’s very unsettling!

MouseyMoose · 15/02/2022 12:23

Yes I tried that too and it wouldn't accept Agora
Iggly · 15/02/2022 12:23

And now I’ve tried the incognito tab to try again and neither agora or aroma work 😂
