To send a note to the cheeky fuckers who just stole our Valentines takeaway?

NC for obvious reasons.

We have just had to wait more than an extra hour for our delivery because the first one they sent was apparently accepted by the occupier when the teenaged driver knocked at the wrong house. The houses do look alike so mistakes happen and the weather is bad tonight.

I rang the restaurant manager when tracking said it was delivered (it wasn’t). He gave me the usual “on its way” flannel you get from managers who don’t know what’s happened. So I said don’t worry. Busy night. We will wait.

He rang back half an hour later, outraged himself at what he has realised and told me “naughty number blah-di-blah took it, my driver knocked the wrong door”. I didn’t ask which house. I didn’t get a chance. He obviously wanted me to know he wasn’t lying. So he told me specifically and now I know.

Luckily a matey dinner with ex instead of a romantic curry night.

Do I pop a note along to point out its not nice to take stuff you haven’t paid for? Just so they know?

@Midlifemusings

Many people would accept an order assuming someone else in the house ordered it. Not sure why you are dismissing all the posts mentioning this and insisting on believing they must be evil and in need of public shaming.
I didn’t. I said that okay I see that mistakenly taking an order might be a thing and maybe I’ll leave it. Wink

Jeez what a horrible post. Just make your own dinner. The hassle and the fact you have had to post about it.quicker to make your own meal.

It's not actually a disgraceful moral failing to order a takeaway on occasion - nor to feel aggrieved when you've paid for anything and don't receive it, possibly because somebody has deliberately stolen it from you.

Rose's face is red
She lives at 31
She's angry at you
'Cos her takeaway's gone

I think you mixed up peculiar with goady there 😂

LoveMyPiano · 14/02/2022 22:44

@NorthSouthcatlady

I would be tempted to go round there. But lm not very tolerant with CF’s, l nearly got into a debate with our newish neighbours on Friday. The mentalists think they own the space outside their terraced house, they don’t Hmm. It wouldn’t have ended well and would have involved me recommending then some local estate agents so they can buy a house with a drive
Is it a parking issue? If it is, where do you think they SHOULD park?
ButteryNuts · 14/02/2022 22:44

I agree with maybe taking in error. Not a house share here, but a family of older teens and adults and everyone sorts their own meals. If a takeaway comes I'll assume it's my sisters or mums and take it.

We had someone knock at the door around an hour ago with a takeaway that wasn't for us. DH automatically said, "That's not ours" and stated our house number X and asked if the delivery was for X in next street or a different number?

Cheekypeach · 14/02/2022 22:50

Have you a Facebook community group? Tag them in a post, say much as you’d love to donate takeaways to them they owe you £20 or whatever it was.

WeyAyeMan · 14/02/2022 22:51

@Versaillaise

You could send them an anonymous valentine's day card: Roses are red, violets are blue, I hope you enjoyed my vindaloo
Hahaha I love this
AwkwardPaws27 · 14/02/2022 22:52

@SpiderinaWingMirror

We've had that . Daughter opened door and was handed a takeaway. Didn't question it. When I found it on the side, was ready to call the restaurant but there wasn't a menu or any details. Knocked the neighbours on both sides and opposite. Nothing else I could do!
^ this DH opened the door a few weeks ago to a takeaway on the doormat and the delivery driver pulling away. Couldn't flag him down.

Luckily there was a menu in the bag so I called the restaurant, & as it was for our neighbours a few doors down, I delivered it myself. If there hadn't been a menu we would have been stuck with it (fried chicken & we're pescatarian).

StarbucksSmarterSister · 14/02/2022 22:56

I'm always getting stuff for the same house number as mine but in the next street as drivers use Google maps which wrongly directs them to us. Takeaways, supermarket deliveries turn up about once a month.

Not once have I ever taken any of it. I could because they really think they're in the right street, but I never would because I'm not a crook.

People know if they've ordered something, unless they live in an HMO. Do they?

Blossom64265 · 14/02/2022 22:56

You don’t actually know they took it by mistake. We order food all the time. Sometimes the wrong food comes to the door. We are expecting a delivery so have no reason to turn them away. Once it’s entered the house, they can’t deliver it to anyone else. We do call and let them know about the error.

Janif · 14/02/2022 22:57

My kids order a take away from upstairs so it's not unusual to have a knock on the door with a delivery driver there. Last delivery I took it in, my son came racing downstairs asking what I ordered. Err.... Nothing.

Transpired it was for the house up the Rd. Numbers not remotely similar. I trapsed up in the rain and dropped it off. However, if some random had my food I'm not sure if want to eat it.

I had Tesco give me someone else's order along with mine. I thought I was losing my mind faster than previously thought. Until I got to the fish. I hadn't eaten fish for 20 years. I twigged at that point and called Tesco who wouldn't take the shopping back due to health and safety. I gave the fish to next door and jammed my freezer with the rest.

NeverChange · 14/02/2022 22:57

This is fate trying to ensure you don't have a romantic takeaway with your ex!!!!! Grin

Cherrysoup · 14/02/2022 23:00

I’d so go round! If you know the number it went to, I’d be round in a flash!

Covidwoes · 14/02/2022 23:00

OP we were guilty of this once, and I can assure you it can easily happen. Did you use Deliveroo by any chance? We ordered from Deliveroo, I was in the bath and DH answered the door. He then got in, put the bag in the kitchen, read the order slip and realised it wasn't what we had ordered. He went out, but the driver had gone. I then contacted Deliveroo straight away, as there were no names and addresses on the delivery slip attached to the bag. I offered to re-deliver it, but they wouldn't give me the address and told me to keep it! I wasn't keen on this, so I then asked several neighbours too, and none of them said it was theirs. What are you supposed to do in that situation? I also offered to keep it warm so a driver could come back and get it, but Deliveroo wouldn't accept that either and said they had to get it redelivered from the restaurant! Our deliveroo order did turn up eventually, but quite late!

Sewaccidentprone · 14/02/2022 23:00

We had v similar tonight. Went to cinema, but got there 45 mins early as was going to get pizza there. Ordered and was told 10-15 min wait. Not a problem.

After 20 mins went to check and our pizzas went out, but someone else must have accepted them.

And they’d then run out of pizza dough. So nachos for tea as no other veggie offering Sad

We don’t eat out often as house needs as few expensive repairs so this would have been a rare treat.

There are some cheeky fuckers around who just spoil things for everyone else.

Insidelaurashead · 14/02/2022 23:00

I once took part of someone's order in error. Ordered via uber eats from my chippy. They arrived earlier than it said they would so I was still working for 20 minutes, so I took my bag from them, said thanks and put it into the kitchen. Then went back to my call. When I finished work I opened the bag and had my order plus an extra portion of fish and chips.

Very sadly I live alone, I did ring the chippy who said they couldn't take it back due to risk of contamination so it went in the bin 💔

MrPenguinsPoppers · 14/02/2022 23:06

I've just remembered a take away driver story for you Op.

Some years ago DS and his then GF were having a quiet night in and ordered takeaway. It didn't arrive. DS chased the store who in turn chase the driver and eventually he got a call from the driver who was lost. DS figured out driver was a street away and as there was an alley through told him to wait there for five minutes whilst he got his shoes on and he'd come to him.
When DS got there driver was just being put in the back of a police car for no tax or insurance. Much ribbing of DS by Police officer who told him he'd not had his dinner yet so it was a fortunate stop 😂. Policeman then gave DS his takeaway and he headed back to his girlfriends with food but feeling rather guilty.

cherrysthename · 14/02/2022 23:08

I went over and had it out with a neighbour who had a nice little freebie out of us the other week. He was caught off guard, but came over to ours 5 minutes later with a made up story 😂
I had to get a refund from Justeat in the end.

Jamdown123 · 14/02/2022 23:08

A few years ago I lived in a house where I very much disliked my neighbours for causing £7k worth of damage to my garden (and whom I had to take to court to get the money back). Delivery driver dropped off my shopping to them one day. They returned it to me the next day with most of the items opened and nibbled on!!

I just shook my head. Seriously. You can't deal with people like that. Just can't.
