To send a note to the cheeky fuckers who just stole our Valentines takeaway?

NC for obvious reasons.

We have just had to wait more than an extra hour for our delivery because the first one they sent was apparently accepted by the occupier when the teenaged driver knocked at the wrong house. The houses do look alike so mistakes happen and the weather is bad tonight.

I rang the restaurant manager when tracking said it was delivered (it wasn’t). He gave me the usual “on its way” flannel you get from managers who don’t know what’s happened. So I said don’t worry. Busy night. We will wait.

He rang back half an hour later, outraged himself at what he has realised and told me “naughty number blah-di-blah took it, my driver knocked the wrong door”. I didn’t ask which house. I didn’t get a chance. He obviously wanted me to know he wasn’t lying. So he told me specifically and now I know.

Luckily a matey dinner with ex instead of a romantic curry night.

Do I pop a note along to point out its not nice to take stuff you haven’t paid for? Just so they know?

It's possible they'd also ordered a takeaway, so just took what arrived and only realised once the driver was gone that it wasn't theirs? Hard to give it back under those circumstances (unless the address was printed on the delivery, but often you just get handed a bag without receipt etc.).

RachelGreeneGreep · 15/02/2022 00:39

@EmbarrassingHadrosaurus

We had someone knock at the door around an hour ago with a takeaway that wasn't for us. DH automatically said, "That's not ours" and stated our house number X and asked if the delivery was for X in next street or a different number?
Both times that I had delivery drivers trying to give me food, they insisted that the address they had was mine.

I didn't accept either delivery even though the food smelled delicious Grin

Juliauns91 · 15/02/2022 00:40

They deliberately stole from you, and the time to address it was as soon as you became aware, and going straight to their house to shame them in person. Thinking about putting a "note" through the door later on is pointless - it won't shame them - they are thieves and they have got away with it unchallenged, and will keep doing it until someone stops them. I hope your couriers don't leave parcels with neighbours if there are more people like them near you.

@LizzieSiddal

I too wonder if someone took it in thinking a housemate or family member had ordered it. They probably dumped ot on the table, shouted “takeaway is here” and it’s been left sitting there as nobody thought it belonged to them.
Not having a dig at you Lizzie or anyone else who genuinely thinks this but really ? " DH, did you order take away ?" DH " Nope" "DS, (16) did you order take away ?" DS,"Nah, not me mum" (DS 12) DS did you order take away ?" DS, No, why you asking me. I get the blame for everything" DD, (8 but thinks she's 15) "did you order take away ?" DD, (rolling eyes) "Of course not Mother." DS. (5) DS did you order take away? DS. (Smiling but looking puzzled) "No, mummy." DD. (2.5) DD, did you order take away ?" DD laughs, raises her arms and says "Up please." So, there you have it, mystery solved. The toddler did it.

And I’ve had the opposite problem! I ordered a bottle of wine to be ubered to a friend on her birthday whole isolating as a surprise and her husband sent it away because he knew they hadn’t ordered anything!

Cheeky bastards

Nowayoutonlydown · 15/02/2022 01:23

I'd post on the Facebook group.
"Hi neighbours! Hope you're all enjoying your valentines evenings!
We thought we would have a takeaway, the restaurant seem to have delivered to the wrong address!
Just wanted to check if anyone knows where it mightve been delivered to!"

You'll guaranteed have a few neighbours frothing at the mouth at the audacity that someone nicked a curry.

They'll feel so embarrassed knowing you've brought it up, and that others think they're CFs even if not knowing for sure its them!

3luckystars · 15/02/2022 01:26

Pretend to be a delivery driver and drop them off something nice tomorrow night.

3toGetReady · 15/02/2022 02:39

My neighbor has stolen 3 of my packages. I walk right over and ask them "was a package delivered here by mistake?" Ofc they always deny it at first. Then I say, "really? Because it says 'package delivered' but I didn't get it. Are you sure someone in your house didn't take it by mistake?" And then it's "oh, my son/ brother/ whoever may have got one earlier, I'll check..." And they return with an obviously opened package.

Once it was their daughter who denied it twice, and I was like "you absolutely don't remember getting any packages that weren't for you?" And the little girl (prob 9 or 10) then says "well there was one... Did it have proceeds to name all contents of package" um, yes 🙄 that's the one, ty.

Nightmare neighbors start to finish. I could go on and on about them. But ya, do confront them in a very casual "have you perhaps made a mistake?" way. Odds are they'll cough it up eventually.

Sleeplesschristmas · 15/02/2022 02:40

I totally understand your frustration, id write a note I think! Bizarrely Ive been on the other end, where someone has knocked on the door and tried to give me a curry and ive had to say sorry mate, id love it but that's not mine. They were actively passing it over without even saying anything! Whoever it is, must havr been incredibly cheeky but also n hungry/timed it right/not fussy... I remember thinking at the time id already eaten/or got tea on the go...

GreenLunchBox · 15/02/2022 02:46

You guys must live in really rough places. I simply can't imagine this happening. And if it did I would expect it to be a mistake.

itsstillgood · 15/02/2022 03:21

It's just about possible that it was a mistake. Door knocked with our curry one night and while dh was discussing with the driver the price not being what we expected (pre covid in the days you paid on the doorstep), a second curry arrived. First one was sent away to Avenue, we are Road, mix ups are frequent. If it had been paid for he'd have accepted first curry.

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

I've had young drivers, old drivers, nice drivers, horrible drivers. I had 78% of all of Deliveroo knock on my door with some delivery for her.

And once had a huge box with some furniture delivered and the cow just left it with me, and when I went to tell her she informed me she's about to go for a coffee with friends and can she pick it up tomorrow. No, you ungrateful sod, it's either now or it's getting kicked out on the street.

Sorry OP. I know I'm unreasonable but the next pizza is mine.

Well as you say you know you're unreasonable.

Mistakes happen and what do you gain by making life more awkward for your neighbour when it is not actually their fault that someone delivered something to the wrong address?

Complain to Deliveroo (or whatever delivery company it is).

Ludoole · 15/02/2022 04:51

My ds ordered pizza and a pizza was delivered. There was also garlic bread (he hadn't ordered that but he assumed the pizza place had sent it as a nice gesture as some places do)
Halfway through there was a knock on the door and his actual order was delivered He did explain to the driver he had already eaten the pizza they had sent first as he assumed it was his. The driver took the 2nd pizza back to his van.

Mistakes can be made sometimes.

Pamlar · 15/02/2022 05:23

Tip a load of melted ice cream through the letterbox and a note saying: you forgot dessert

That's terrible @Blueemeraldagain ! That sounds like something that would happen to me (at either end of it, as well). Did it eventually get back to her? Wine
IglesiasPiggl · 15/02/2022 05:34

I don't know what company it was, but we got a takeaway delivered in error to our house not long ago. The driver was asking for a code sent to the mobile of the person ordering, which we obviously didn't have. I told him it wasn't ours anyway but it seems to be a step forward that some companies have started doing this.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 15/02/2022 05:36

@Sportslady44

Jeez what a horrible post. Just make your own dinner. The hassle and the fact you have had to post about it.quicker to make your own meal.
Um... Why would you be ok, essentially giving 35£ to some random neighbour...??

Immaterial whether you would order a takeaway or not..

MadameFantabulosa · 15/02/2022 05:46

I ate your curry
It wasn’t very nice
You ordered a naan
But I prefer rice.

Covidwoes · 15/02/2022 05:56

@TabithaHazel exactly! The OP hasn't stated if it was Deliveroo or not. This makes a big difference as you can't trace who ordered it, the correct address etc. Really sad people on here are assuming the recipient is automatically a CF who stole the takeaway intentionally. When this happened to us (wrong food in a deliveroo bag. Our deliveroo then appeared late!) I spent a good 20 mins contacting Deliveroo trying to persuade them to get it to the right person (even offering to deliver it myself!) but they wouldn't accept that. No neighbours took it either!

LilacShimmer · 15/02/2022 06:01

I suspect they were waiting for a delivery too, when yours arrived.

Neighbours in a nearby road, are always getting our deliveries, of all kinds of things.

The road names are clearly marked.

Oblomov22 · 15/02/2022 06:36

Love the poems. Tbf no food can be sent back once it's been inside someone house can it?
