Where is your line? What would he need to do for you to say 'enough

Putting Larry the cat in a bin?

longwayoff · 13/02/2022 10:42

Oh ffs, Tony Blair, Corbyn, Beer. Really? Haven't any of you got something better to do? I've witnessed better constructed and more logical discourse between 5 year olds in a playground.

ClaudineClare · 13/02/2022 10:43

A nice long prison sentence for perverting the course of justice would draw a neat line over the whole affair

Oh, if only.

ClaudineClare · 13/02/2022 10:44

longwayoff the Milibands have been given an airing too. Desperate.

Blossomtoes · 13/02/2022 10:46

@cakeorwine

I have already said that I have not asked for reading material, but details of specific posts containing the claimed text. You have not found any, so what is the point of typing out all that stuff

Do you work for the Met Police? You won't investigate for yourself unless it's handed to you on a plate.

Good thing none of us who are graduates took that approach. What do my own research? Certainly not, if I want to know something it should be put on a plate in front of me complete with Harvard reference otherwise I simply won’t believe it.

Anyway enough of this particular derailment.

SueSaid · 13/02/2022 10:49

'Boody why are you so obsessed with being provided with evidence of statements that were posted before you joined MN?'

The poster isn't 'obsessed'. A pp stated incorrectly someone (I presume they mean me) had said it was fine for the PM to have a party. Boody asked who said it and where, they were the given links to several threads that I would bet a tenner neither I nor anyone else said it was fine for him to have a party. What I have said, repeatedly sorry some can't grasp it, is a cake in an office isn't a party. If it was then the nhs and many other workplaces were having non stop parties in their staff rooms all through lockdown.

Great that the PM is going to Scotland, bet Nicola will be very cat's bum faced about it. He's focused on getting on with the job isn't he.

'Oh ffs, Tony Blair, Corbyn, Beer. Really?'

Shouldn't a debate be balanced, include relevant references and offer different opinions? Or do you just want yeah but no but cake?

BoodyDedalus · 13/02/2022 10:51

It is up to the person who made the claim to support it with evidence. Do you really imagine that people who submit theses don't bother to substantiate their conclusions, and instead tell their directors of studies to look stuff up for themselves if they need evidence?

Anyway enough of this particular derailment.

It would be nice if you didn't try to prolong the debate - no evidence has been found. The original claim was therefore almost certainly fake news. End of matter.

cakeorwine · 13/02/2022 10:52

We are rehashing old ground.

You have your views. Other people have different views.

We could repeat definitions of when a party is a party / a gathering is a gathering / a work event becomes a social event / etc.

We know what you think. Other people have different views.

So looking forward to the Sue Gray report.

Notonthestairs · 13/02/2022 10:54

I think the SG should be available week after next as the questionnaires will have been submitted by then.

cakeorwine · 13/02/2022 10:55

It would be nice if you didn't try to prolong the debate - no evidence has been found. The original claim was therefore almost certainly fake news. End of matter

So if you don't look through the evidence, it never happened and is fake news.

That pretty much sums up some people's views on research.

SueSaid · 13/02/2022 10:55

'You have your views. Other people have different views.'

Well, quite. That is a debate.

If you just want backslaps and high fives maybe post on the echo chamber brexit board. On aibu folk will challenge you.

ClaudineClare · 13/02/2022 10:57

More evidence that Johnson doesn't care who he hangs out to dry. Perhaps he doesn't understand that some parents want to be around to see their children grow up.

I still think misconduct in a public office
www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/misconduct-public-office

The met/CPS will be brave to go for that though
Perjury also serious. And hopefully parliament will do something if its proved he lied "there were no parties" for example

Of course. And this is why it's useful to see the Sue Grey report into what happened.

I think this gathering is one of the gatherings under investigation.

So it met the threshold for police investigation

news.sky.com/story/police-investigate-alleged-boris-johnson-birthday-party-and-gathering-in-downing-street-flat-12529782

Also under investigation is the 19 June 2020 event in which Mr Johnson was "ambushed by cake", in the words of minister Conor Burns, in the Cabinet Room at No 10 to mark the Prime Minister's 56th birthday. Mr Burns later insisted Mr Johnson had told him there was no cake.

Carrie Johnson, the Prime Minister's wife, reportedly organised the surprise complete with a chorus of "happy birthday" and interior designer Lulu Lytle also admitted attending while carrying out controversial work on their Downing Street flat.

I wonder if there was a cake at all?

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/02/12/tory-grandees-urge-boris-johnson-lift-unconservative-ban-fracking/

I think partygate is just the tip of the iceberg for Johnson.

It happened because he doesn’t care about the boring details of policy and legislation. However that lack of focus and interest also means that he is at the mercy of different factions within the party who have completely opposing views.

The only thing keeping him in power is apathy.

The Jennifer Acuri debarcle is a misconduct in public office issue. The case was closed due to lack of evidence but has now been reopened as she has now provided all her private papers. The standards committee are sifting through them all before deciding whether to launch a criminal investigation.
cakeorwine · 13/02/2022 11:04

Having had a look at the Mail this morning, it looks like there's going to be a war on woke and looking at fracking etc.

I wonder how that will go down with Carrie?

Alexandra2001 · 13/02/2022 11:05

Ha ha, NS loves it when Bozo comes to Scotland, he is so unpopular there even Scottish Tories hate him.

fwiw i thought that was exactly what was said, a "surprise" gathering with cake to celebrate the PM birthday was all ok because it was only 10 minutes...and apparently at work!! but the little 7yo girl who foregoes her birthday gathering was a hero and was praised by Bojo for sticking by the rules....

merrymouse · 13/02/2022 11:13

And the electorate?

I don’t think ‘war on woke’ is the rich political seam they think it is, because it lumps together too many different issues.

At the moment, I think people would be more interested in a clear policy on the economy, which for obvious reasons can’t be ‘cakeism’.

Alexandra2001 · 13/02/2022 11:15

I was one of many who could not understand why Tony Blair did not resign after misleading parliament over weapons of mass destruction. But he didn't, and thus a precedent was set.

When was TB found guilty of misleading Parliament?

Precedent isn't set on "personal opinion"

cakeorwine if you don't look through the evidence

No evidence has been found, so how can anyone look through it?

Don't you think it is silly to prolong this nonsensical "debate" when there is nothing more to be said?

There has never been any formal charge of misleading parliament. It is simply an allegation - a personal opinion, if you like. Johnson has already been accused of misleading parliament over Covid19 contracts - he has not resigned.

I know what I think is silly on here.

longwayoff · 13/02/2022 11:22

Thanks Claudine, nobody's raised Keir Hardie yet? Amazing. Glad to see Bozo's kindly visiting Scotland where he's sure to get the welcome he deserves. What a delight for the nation. I recall Ruth Davidson, ex Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party, was in tears over his behaviour a couple of weeks ago, nasty lefty socialist that she is.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/ministerial-code

It is of paramount importance that Ministers give accurate and truthful information to Parliament, correcting any inadvertent error at the earliest opportunity. Ministers who knowingly mislead Parliament will be expected to offer their resignation to the Prime Minister
